yeah but ulanov would skate across the ice to do it and leave his partner to fend off 3-on-1s

sweet win last night. thought it was deserved as we did outplay the hawks. huet made some nice saves and did well for the final 40 minutes of play, but he can't keep giving up 3-4 goals per game. at some poijt, the offensive well will run dry for a bit and we'll go through a stretch where we can't buy a goal. it's then that we'll need huet to steal a game or two. no room for softies in those games, and no room for softies when we play teams like ottawa, jersey, rangers. still, for the life of me, can't understand why people are ragging on gui. saw it on TSN boards, heard it on 110%. i just don't get it. i think he's been everything we've hoped for. and one day he'll probably be a consistent 30-goal guy. he's starting to remind me of john leclair. i remember leclair came to the team with great fanfare but wasn't scoring 30 goals from the outset. everyone starting calling him a bust and we threw him into the recchi deal. as for the new guy, locke, not a good sign that he barely saw the ice. i don't think the organization has any plans for him. he won't be put into a position to succeed. this is one time i believe that the Habs may actually be showcasing a player for others to see if he can handle himself and keep up at the NHL level. think about it--there's no room for locke on this team right now. there's no point in putting him on the 4th line, he's not that kind of player. who knows. i hope we see halak at some point on the road. and did anyone read jack todd's column? what was that about? man does that dude ramble incoherently. is anyone going to replace him at the gazette? the sports section is woefully under-written as it is.

meh...i think sending price down is a VERY clear signal that the're going to ride huet into the ground. based on the early returns, that's where he'll take us. sorry, i've NEVER been a big huet fan, and i just can't understand how poor he plays when the game is tight...

maybe he should speak to his goaltenders. this is getting stupid already. same thing vs rangers. same thing vs tampa. same thing vs washington. same thing tonight. come on. you need a save sometimes.

that rule only applies to rookies this year, it would seem. what have brisebois and smolinski done to justify their spots? nothing. but they're going to be in there for us every step of the way making us a weaker team and stunting the development of our young players. i understand why BG signed smoke, and maybe breezer--he didn't feel any of the young guys were ready. now that it seems as though they are, why can't he say adios to the vets?

you mean no free rides for rookies. guys like breezer and smolinski, with their three goals (1 empty netter) don't have to do much to earn ice time.

i'm not a brisebois fan at all. i just don't see what he brings to the team. everyone talks about his first pass out of the zone, but that pass lands on an opponent's stick just as often as it does a teammate's

smokes can't be moved. i know he has a NTC, maybe even a no movement clause. plus, i can't see gainey waiving him (waiving smoke this year, samsonov last year--how the hell will we ever sign another UFA?)...bottom line is that smolinski and brisebois were bad signings. clearly, gainey did not think that his young players were ready (guys like chips, lapierre, o'byrne, kostitsyn). i think these guys bring MUCH more than smoke or brisebois do.

i guess they did it because smolinski is coming back and will go back to being the 3rd-line centre. it was between chips and lapierre and they feel lapierre brings more as a 4th liner. i really don't know what it is they see in smolinski, but they can't do anything with him but play him.
