RE: Possible work stoppage. Does anyone know what happens to player contracts in the event of a work stoppage? For example, if the NHL loses a year to a labour dispute, does that take a year off of Gomez's contract? - Comment on Liveblog: Canadiens will draft third
taking a little break from work and musing about Habs needs. Irrespective of who the Habs draft and which (if any) prospects make the team in 2012-13, the Habs need to add 2 top-6 wingers and 2 top-4 D-men. Presuming they find a way to move and/or dump Gomez, Bourque and Kaberle, this would be the core of next year's team. Desharnais - Cole - Patches Pleks - New Winger 1 - New Winger 2 Eller - Gionta - Leblanc White - Moen - Darche Subban - Gorges New D#1 - New D#2 Markov - Emelin Price - Budaj Reserves: Geoffrion, Staubitz, Diaz, St. Denis - Comment on Fractured vertebra for Pacioretty
I think that Boston should be forced to forfeit their upcoming 1st round draft pick as compensation for damage to Max Pac's career. Player suspensions have clearly not worked to deter these kinds of incidents. Maybe if the team is punished, coaches, GMs and owners will put more pressure on their own players to clean up their act.

so what's our D with Hammer out tonight?
spactch - weber
wiz - gill
subban - picard
as much as i like weber and subban and can tolerate picard, none of the three replace either hammer or gorges.
my real worry though is even when hammer is back, wiz, weber and subban are all offensive d-men. Price is going to have to be on his game for the rest of the season.

Thank god we picked up Brett Festerling... (sarcasm)

how about trying to sign Modano as a third line center? would probably be better than Moore and cost around the same. maybe 1.5 mil. assuming he's still got a little juice in the tank, he could be a really good fit and could fill in on the top two lines in case of injury. on a 1 year deal, there'd be no risk, and he'd bring a ton of leadership and experience.
