Would it be crazy to make hockey a summer olympic sport? You could simply delay the start of the NHL season by a couple of weeks. Shorter training camps, slightly compressed schedule, etc. Would help to open up new markets without sacrificing the integrity of the regular season. Plus any injuries would be less impactful to NHL clubs.
- Comment on AUDIO: Habs trade Diaz to Canucks for Weise (2014-02-03 16:18:32)
It sounds like Wiese has the potential to evolve into a Jason Chimera type player. The total points versus avg ice time is a fascinating stat to look at in comparison with other players league wide. Weise is definitely an outlier in that category. Definitely has 3rd line potential, IMO. On each productive line you need a passer, shooter, and a retreiver. Weise sounds like he could be a retriever. Think Travis Moen who actually gets to the corner first. I like the move. Beaulieu is an upgrade and more are coming from down on the farm. But I agree with the Brian Wildes of the world who surmise that Bergevin managed the asset poorly and probably could have been able to get more earlier. Gotta be more proactive. Perhaps one of many disconnects between MT and MB?
- Comment on Michael Farber talks Therrien, Olympics on new HI/O Show (2014-01-30 12:02:14)
With back to backs on Superbowl weekend, Budaj makes no sense tonight. Especially with Price coming off a shutout. On second thought, probably makes complete sense to Therrien.
- Comment on Habs return home after rookie dinner in Florida (2013-03-11 12:46:38)
Ryder has 9pts in 7 games with the Habs. Erik Cole has 7 points on the season. People still missing that big body driving to the net? Look's like 21,11,and 51 drive to the net just fine... Our biggest need is a Gudbranson type but they don't grow on trees. But Pateryn looks solid - no panic in his game.
- Comment on UPDATED: Pacioretty headed home from Switzerland (2012-10-16 13:08:34)
This seems to be a significant move in the players' direction by the NHL. Am I missing something?
- Comment on It’s time for hockey fans to vent (2012-10-05 13:49:14)
For all you folks who are already going through withdrawal: Three words of advice - play the game! Ever since I finished grad school (11 years ago) I have been playing rec league hockey. Played a ton of street and shinny as a kid but never on a team. It is such a great source of camraderie, networking, and alcohol! By playing, you never lose your connection to the game. I never miss a habs game, but it is via DVR/PVR whenever I have a game or pickup session myself. The only exception is for a game seven versus the Bruins! Hopefully some of this advice to be a useful prescription for what ails you.

What do you think of this lineup? Robidas, Markov, McDonough, PK, Hainsey, O'Byrne, AK, SK, Grabovski,Ryder, Ribeiro, Koivu, Desharnais, Pacioretty, White, Pleks, Lapierre, Higgins, Price, Halak/Vokoun/Theo. Leblanc? Lats? Would we be under the cap? Would we win the cup this year? Are all of them Timmins picks? Maybe we don't need a GM? Maybe Timmins for GM? What can i say - nothing better to do on a tues night but dream...

Was just looking at the final scores for all the habs losses. It seems like our worst loss was 5-1 in Chicago in Dec? (I think Budaj was in net). This club is not that far off. Good younng core. Markov back. A functional powerplay, a shutdown d-pair, and a big center should make a huge difference. I have no problem with Roy as coach - we need someone with fire behind the bench. Experience with young players doesn't hurt. Is Grigarenko a center? I also think it will reverse the corey-houle-tremblay jinx. Maybe Mike Keane should be assistant coach to seal the deal? Voodoo dolls for Thibeault, Rucinsky, and Kovalenko as insurance?
- Comment on Liveblog: A 4-1 loss, and last-place Canadiens move on to Florida (2012-02-24 23:25:23)
I had more than a few beers before and during the game. Bass drafts at Elephant and Castle pre-game and buds while at the game. That should justify a mulligan on the Phaneuf comment. Cut Phaneuf and paste Regehr/Kronwall.
