I really like Dumont but hope he cranks it up a notch if he stays Pleks will bleed bleu blanc rouge his entire career. He'll play third line if need be. A poor man's Koivu... i miss him Interesting to see where coach Boucher will end up Forgot about Timmins... I think you're spot on

Boone, I started paying attention to your blog back in 2006 when I was living in a calgary/edmonton/vancouver world back in alberta. Your articles, despite the team's performance, was always a great pleasure to read. The head honchos knew this was a fluke year, why else didn't they stock up prior to the playoff run? It was a great way of learning what needs to be done to make this team better in the long run. You can't complain when your team goes from dead last (or almost) to division champs in the following year, regardless of the outcome. For what it matters (which is diddly) here's my take on our players Markov: love the guy, but wow, sign him cheap or let him go Emelin: keep and develop... or better yet, clone Diaz is sentenced to 8 months weight lifting and power skate training Drewiskie: give him a chance without pressure. Only one chance Tinordi/Beaulieu/Pateryn: Give them a couple years Bouillon: Same as Markov... though might help any other small player Habs sign Georges: Great solid depth D, nothing more. Easily improved on... I know, I know Subban: You don't throw away Norris candidates Weber/Kaberle: It's been a slice Desharnais/Gionta/Dumont: either one can go, as far as I'm concerned, though I like them very much Eller: you can see he's another Plekanec with size. Keep him Ryder: bye bye. It was a great swan song Bourque: Ride out his contract. Maybe re-sign cheap Prust; Duh... keep Pacioretty: Duh redux (though he might need more veteran guidance) Pleks: keeps. He's a hab all the way through. Pivotal Gallagher/Galchenyuk: the future White: affordable loss (though I met the guy and he seems all Habs) Armstrong/Halpern: they did the little things... would not be miffed if they stayed Blunden: Not an impact player but I admire his guts Moen: Moen who? Trade him or light a fire under his butt Nokia: See ya! (said captain obvious) Bournival/Leblanc: Get your poop in a group and help this team, for crying out loud Price: Re-channel what made you win the calder cup Budaj: If you're as cool as we're meant to hear, stick around for the fireworks Therrien: Prove to us this year was not a fluke Bergevin: You got a good look. Fans will forget favorites for a cup-winning team. Kovy who? Go Anaheim, Go!!!

If a player is in a funk (DD, Patches), you'd imagine a coach to put him in a situation to succeed (i.e. power play) in order to get his mojo going again. The other argument can be made that a winning team will help ease whatever pressure a player puts on himself and may play without gripping the stick so tight, so the coach should go what what works instead. They have staff to know what works best for individual players through personal connections as well as the team as a team. I imagine it is what it is for a reason and it will be what it will be until that reason changes or matters become urgent. But what do I know? I just root for the team, regardless as I can't do a lick of difference from where I stand. My thoughts go to Eller and his family. Here's hoping it's just a typical playoff face he's got with a broken nose and busted teeth and not the dreaded C word...

I still can't believe we also got a draft pick in the Ryder deal.

Can you imagine the size of his nose, if it got broke?
