I'm hopeful about Parenteau. I know, I know. But without the ability to delude yourself, life can become quite unbearable. Last year Gionta performed at .49 ppg, Briere at .36 and Parenteau at .60. Given that he was scoring while emerging from the doghouse that's a reasonable clip. Given that he's a friend of his likely new centre, and given that having two setup guys on his line, Max might really flourish next year, I am hopeful that he might do a reasonable job of replacing the points lost from Briere and Gionta. As far as needing another scoring forward is concerned, well, what team wouldn't want that, but you can't just whip one up in the kitchen, and there weren't a lot available through free agency. Perhaps a trade is in the offing, but if not, I compliment Bergevin on the guts it takes to go with a young lineup, counting on guys like Eller, Galchenyuk Gallagher and others to take up some slack and move forward in their development. Adding another D-man who clearly knows how to set up more goals than poor Josh Gorges has ever dreamed about should help the young forwards to improve their stats. All through last season I bemoaned, (mainly to my wife, who couldn't care less) that the Habs needed to find a reliable face-off guy, to take those key D-zone draws. Up steps M. Bergevin to sign the best available face-off guy in this year's FA pool. Not only is Manny good in the circle, but also he is big and can score a few goals. Can't wait to see him working with Weise and Prust next year. This will be a fourth line that can actually do some damage. Also nice to have Weaver back as an insurance policy. In short, I respect the fact that Bergevin has a vision of the kind of team he wants to ice, and that he has the balls to take some chances in pursuit of that vision. I believe he's an astute judge of hockey talent, and I trust that the moves he is making will improve the overall team. The subtle moves he made today will not end up being so subtle in changing the complexion and composition of the team moving forward. Looking forward to next season already. Okay, I don't get why the donut chain is called Tim Hortons. I mean, the name of the hockey player was Tim Horton, so shouldn't it either be Tim Horton or Tim Horton's? The only argument for Tim Hortons is that it's the plural form, and yet they don't call it Canadian Tires, or Future Shops, and it is McDonald's, not McDonalds. Plus there was only ever one Tim Horton. Sorry, that's as close as I can get to hockey talk this morning. Moderators could we please have something new, even if it's only what Dale Weise's handicap is? The rule is perfect: in all matters of opinion our adversaries are insane. Mark Twain

About Andrei Markov. He must be resigned, in my opinion, then used properly over the term of what will likely be his last contract. By that I mean that he cannot be expected, come playoffs, to play 25-30 mins. per game. It was too much to ask of PK, ergo it's way too much to ask of Markov. He remains one of the smartest, most cool-headed players on the team, and that will most certainly be needed as they break in up to four rookie defensemen over the next few years. His on-ice role-modeling will be essential to the development of these talented young players. If he is traded, who on the current team will fill that mentoring role? I say sign him for three years, counting on the fact that he will play sensible minutes in important situations. By the time that contract is up Beaulieu will have become the next Markov, Tinordi a fleeter Murray, and Pateryn an upgraded Josh Gorges. Do the right thing MB. Thanks to the team for a great run. Thanks to Mr. Boone for shepherding this crazy commentariat through an exciting year of hockey. Thanks to HIO members whose views and passion have been better than a cup of coffee in the morning now that I'm retired. What did we do before this site gave us a voice? I'll be keeping an eye on you and all of your verbal shenanigans throughout the summer. Keep it real. The rule is perfect: in all matters of opinion our adversaries are insane. Mark Twain

Really really really tired of Don using half his time to show shots of handsome men in suits then complaining that he never gets enough time to make his more salient points. Sartorial stupidity. The rule is perfect: in all matters of opinion our adversaries are insane. Mark Twain
