  I've watched the Habs for 40+ years. We have to remember that to the rather small french enclave in the Americas that is Quebec looks to the Canadiens as a source of pride and identity. The team has slowly eroded it's french factor over the years for a variety of reasons. This erosion should be reveresed within reason and that starts with effective scouting in the province. It's a burden to the Habs organization but it is a profitable organization that could expend the resources if the commitment is there. I dismiss the political groups and francophone press's complaints about Cunneyworth because their motivation is, for the most part, pure self interest.   while most folk love skillsie's character he is mostly a liability on defence. its time for Mtl to outgrow him.   I love reading Todd's articles. He rarely leaves one feeling indifferent after having read a piece of his work. And I think we'd agree that this is why the Gazette has hired him.   Completely agree. I am pleasantly suprised with Gill's defensive work on the PK but other than that he remains a liability. Albeit a pleasant player friendly liability. Campoli back, Hal sits and Emelin can continue to develop and keep opposing fwd's honest. However it could be said that J Martin is risk adverse so it is unlikely that Hal sits.   Weber has had a few bad games lately but with barely 76 NHL games under his belt the expectations seem to be too high. He appears to be smart enough, passes intelligently and has a good shot. But being a liteweight amongst a troupe of liteweight defence (Emelin excluded) is not easy work. Add to that undersized forwards and you have a cocktail mix that makes playing in the defensive zone especially difficult. You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt
