I was alive in 71, altough barely. My best joy was mother's milk at the time. Mr. Boone is drawing upon that team as a basis of comparison for our current team. I just don't see it. I don't see J. Halak being Ken Dryden, but keep in mind, I didn't see Dryden being Dryden that year. I truly believe that Price is going to realize his potential one day when he learns how to be a pro off the ice and when his maturation process is complete. There's no way that'll happen during these playoffs. Halak would have to really bomb in D.C. for Price to even get a sniff at the net in Montreal.
If you're seeing what I'm seeing, there's no way, motivational speeches or not, this team gets out of the first round. I've enjoyed the year, however, as they made the playoffs with significant injuries. Is the future any brighter, though? Are we always going to be satisfied to just make the playoffs? Why can't this team seem to be able to develop players like Parise, or Carter just to name a couple in Andrei's draft class. Why can't we ever have a stalwart up the middle like a Staal or an earlier Lecavalier?
For F sakes, turnover factory MAB is getting twenty plus minutes of ice. Isn't that really cutting into O'Byrne's development? Wasn't 20 starting to come into his own? He is rewarded by enjoying the game from a pretty good seat. Martin shortening his bench is coaching? When Guy rolled four lines he was a good coach and he was one of the reasons why we didn't have injuries in 2008. Is this some sort of paradox we learn to survive?
Somebody please show me the direction the club is going and reassure me that we will be at least a serious contender for the cup in a couple of years at least.
