Habs fan since: a really long time ago
Favorite current player: I know he's not a Hab, but Ryan Smyth, ever since the Stanley Cup finals a few years back when he took a slapshot to the face, calmly bent over to pick up his teeth, missed two shifts and came back to score the winning goal.
All-time favorite player: Ryan Smyth

What you said. I hope for his sake that he's done some growing up, and certainly it sounds like he had some really rough beginnings. Not an excuse for his behaviour over the years, but it certainly puts it into context. I don't have to like him to wish him well. -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. A team that relies so heavily on luck and the health of three players, well, it's possible they'll stay lucky and healthy. But when you look at teams that seem so much better-built and better-coached, with hulking possession-magnets on the blue line and gritty forwards who can also score, teams that don't just stubbornly do the same thing over and over when it isn't working, our team just doesn't seem to stack up all that well. I think that's where some of the negativity comes from. I think MB is doing a great job of addressing the roster gaps the smart way -- through the draft and minor trades, rather than mortgaging the farm. But it'll be a few years before all our prospects are clicking, and until then, as much as I love this team, I know all it would take is a key injury and a turn in puck luck to turn the season into a train wreck. -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. Yup. That's the situation that Player Safety has put in place, and they -- and legions of concussed players -- will have to live with the consequences. When you can effectively trade a scrub for a superstar -- especially in the playoffs -- all you've got to prevent you is basic decency. And we've seen what happens when we count on 30 coaches and 600+ players to police themselves and do the right thing. -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. Yep. And even if they are on the ice at the same time, say a Team A player boards Team B's star, so Team B's goon goes after him. Odds are that a tougher teammate is going to fight the offender's battle for him, so two guys who had nothing to do with the hit end up clobbering each other. For what? Worse still, there's a good chance that Team B runs one of Team A's stars to get even... The fans, the sport, and the players all lose here. And anyway, a guy like Rinaldo, Carcillo, Torres, Cooke... they know their paycheque depends on the bodies they break. They're not going to be deterred by the prospect of a fight, or anything short of huge financial penalties, say sitting out half a season or more. -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. I agree with Boone that a defenceman with sand should be a priority -- if he's healthy though, I think that defenceman is Tinordi. That said, we do still need a better defence corps, and the Coyotes' owner is on record saying he wants to blow his team up and rebuild. You've got to think that means Yandle is available, and considering that Bouwmeester only cost a 1st plus two so-so prospects, there's at least a chance we could put together a reasonable package for him without sacrificing roster players or the future. He's signed through next year at a reasonable $5.25M hit. And we could certainly do worse than this: Yandle-Subban Markov-Tinordi Beaulieu-Gonchar Emelin-Weaver -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. Solid post, Hobie, but I dunno, a lot of fighters say they're terrified every time they drop the gloves. Laraque for example had his weaknesses, but he certainly knew NHL fighting culture. He said he knew of only four enforcers really enjoyed fighting -- the rest he says, like him, were in it solely for a big-league paycheque. He also says some enforcers are on steroids and other drugs, to hit harder and increase endurance, causing an arms race among tough guys who feel compelled to dose to stay in the game. -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. Maybe part of the answer is tougher chin straps and mandatory visors -- players might fight less if they can't remove their helmets/visors and they're harder to knock off. At the very least, they'd be harder to injure. -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out. I hope you're right about fighting decreasing as tough guys' contracts expire, but I wonder if a lot of small-market AHL teams count on fights to help fill seats in small-city arenas, especially in places where hockey isn't all that entrenched in the culture (Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Charlotte...) -- Devils coach Jacques Lemaire on the Daneyko-Kaminski feud - "Daneyko got mad when Kaminski said he was going to knock his teeth out.
