Why MT won't reunite Eller, Gally and Chucky is a complete mystery to me. Although it shouldn't be, it's MT after all, he'd rather just blow Eller's value through the floor. Loving the Habs since 1965

Not a bad showing against a top 5 team on the road w/o Price, yadda yadda. Rather than spend $$$$$ on dorks like Briere in the future, Geoff Molson needs to invest $50-$70M over 10 years for an NHL GM like Shero or Chiarelli or Wilson or Bowman or Lombardi. Enough of these greenhorn know-nothing guys whose only qualification is a mastery of that other language. Once a real GM is in place, then let him do his work, including of course the hiring of a real NHL coaching staff, complete with a team of translators for a lazy media, and the aggressive recruitment of elite NHL players. I mean you hear a Shero say he'll do anything to get Kesler, for example, that's frigging exciting, that's the chutzpah we haven't seen here since Pollock. What's our guy gonna do? Sign a 75 year old Markov who already skates in quicksand to a 5 year Gomez-like deal? Ben oui, awaiiie donc. Kick those guys onto the antichambre panel and let's get serious. PK's gonna get a serious offer sheet that will make Weber blush. I hope he takes it, and rubs it in the face of these amateurs MT and MB. Habs deserve so much better. Loving the Habs since 1965

Glad to see the poll tending toward trading Markov, the time has come, and a shrewd GM needs to make the mover right now. Any kind of skilled forward suits me, PA might be a good fit despite his relative small size. If Bergie could unload any of the others on Boone's list, he deserves a purple heart, let alone exec of the year. Loving the Habs since 1965

I'm thrilled to see JT, but yeah, keeping NB down would be very surprising. I smell another related move < the trade deadline. Loving the Habs since 1965
  • Comment on Dick Irvin the special guest on this week’s HI/O Show (2014-02-06 09:41:11)
Great post, stories, Dick is as sharp as a tack, holy smokes; I disagree about the 'too many teams' thing, if there's a TV market and a rink that can sell 20,000 tix, no reason why that city can't have a team. There are TONS of good players around, way more than in the good ol' days. Low scoring and dull games are a) due to excellent coaching b) excellent goaltending c) shot blocking that only the Don Awreys of Dick's era used to do. It might have been fun being a Habs fan (like me) in the 70s, but it must have SUCKED for half of the league back then, they sold the game on fights just to get folks in. We've come a long and good way. Loving the Habs since 1965

Good trade, gotta hand it to Bergie for this one. We still can't score, but some size/toughness is never a bad addition. Loving the Habs since 1965

We shoulda signed PA when we had the chance. I would have supported this deal for sure. Loving the Habs since 1965

At this point, might as well give MT until the Olympic break, eight more games, unless it becomes so obvious that every game will be a repeat of Saturday night or worse. A new coach after Feb 8, should it come to pass, could get a nice two week period to prepare, review video, strategize, put his team together on paper, and then start fresh with his (mostly rested) team after the Olympics are over. Here's what I don't get: while I have never been fond of this roster or this coach, they were doing something right for the first half of the season. What happened? Did the league simply adjust? That sounds too simple. What's our record since Emelin came back (too soon and still injured)? When and why did Raphael Diaz become Davis Drewiske? Has Markov expired right before our eyes? And a huge WTF goes to MT and his "lines" - the Laffs here in my town went through some tough times, but at least Kessel and Lupul knew who they were gonna play with on a given night, then they picked up a solid D man and now look at 'em, back where they left off in November. We have a GM who doesn't panic, a coach who does, and a bunch of players who don't give a flying crap. Go Habs Go! Loving the Habs since 1965
