i see where you're coming from and agree that sometimes I have to remind myself that maybe the reason MT is holding certain players back is to make them "earn it" and to instil that mentality in the team. Chucky and Beaulieu may already be better than certain players on the team, but maybe they don't reach their potential if they aren't made to work harder for those spots and are just given them instead. I can appreciate that line of thinking and will give MT the benefit of the doubt and assume that's what he's doing. I still can't forgive him for some of the team tactics, though you're right...a good assistant would help balance that out. And Therrien would admit that X's and O's aren't his forte. I guess, my biggest issue is that people respond to any criticism of MT with "look at the record". It's just a lazy argument, IMO. I had to unfollow Ted Bird on Twitter because he would constantly ram that line of thinking down your throat like it was the only answer to a complex matter. Reeked of laziness, arrogance, or ignorance.....or possibly all 3. Results are all that matters in the short term. But in the long haul that is an NHL season or even longer haul that is the building of a franchise, you sometimes have to look beyond the results. you can count me amongst the Therrien detractors, but i understand why people who look at the wins total believe and use that as evidence that he's doing a good job. Here's an analogy, though, that may help see where the detractors are coming from. I'm a basketball coach. One of the things we stress is taking good shots. Some kids will say, "but coach I can make that shot (from long range with a defender in their face). I've made it before. And one of the concepts we have to get them to understand is, just because it goes in, doesn't make it a good shot. You might get hot, or lucky and hit a few of those. But in the long term, if you keep taking that low percentage shot, you will eventually miss a greater percentage of them than you'll make and certainly a greater percentage than those you'd make if you were taking good shots. The percentages will eventually catch up to you. Just like at the casino. It's the same way with the Habs. Nobody is upset that they're winning, or at least shouldn't be. Some people are just frustrated, though, that the player usage and team tactics aren't up to snuff, and that the results are making people believe these are "good shots". The one X Factor, however, is Carey Price. In a game like hockey having an exceptional goalie (not a hot goalie; an EXCEPTIONAL goalie. Think Domink Hasek in his Sabres days) can make up for a lot of shortcomings on a team, or poor coaching tactics. And Carey Price is just that: exceptional. So it'll be interesting to see if he can out-Therrien the team. But there's pretty much nothing anyone can say at this point to make me believe (outside of maybe the players liking him and wanting to play for him) that Therrien is doing a good "coaching" job. - Comment on Hard to believe some Habs fans still feel Carey Price is over-rated (2014-12-26 15:33:09)
There are no knowledgeable hockey people on this planet who believe Carey Price is overrated anymore. At this point, saying so is akin to saying "I don't really know much". That being said, there will always be people who just enjoy being contrary and holding an opinion for the sake of having something to argue about. Should also be noted that it is not fair to compare people questioning Price with people questioning Therrien. Many of the people who question Therrien use good reasoning and ask fair questions in making their arguments against the current head coach. Using the argument that "he's winning. That's all that matters" could be compared to the people who state that "Price hasn't won a cup therefore he's no good". The Montreal Canadiens: sporting the best AND worst fans since 1909!
- Comment on Habs’ Pacioretty growing into leadership role both on and off the ice (2014-12-21 22:13:57)
No doubt in my mind that Patches is the best candidate for the C. Thought he was a good candidate before the season, but nobody has embraced the leadership role in the way Max has. Funny to think of all the members of the montreal media who were writing him off as not having what it takes when this issue was brought up in the offseason. Interested to hear if they still feel the same way. More interested to see if they're willing to own up to not always being right. The Montreal Canadiens: sporting the best AND worst fans since 1909!

- Comment on Martin Brodeur would take backup job with Habs if offered (2014-09-05 19:22:35)
Not sure about the rest of you, but given the answers he's been giving to the media lately, i'm 100% down with making Max Pacioretty the next captain of the Habs. I honestly didn't consider him before because I figured he wouldn't want it due to his seemingly .... contentious? ... relationship with the media from time to time. But it seems he is more than willing to take on the responsibility, and more importantly, understands the honour that goes along with the position. So here's my vote for sticking the C on Max's jersey. The Montreal Canadiens: sporting the best AND worst fans since 1909!

I'm generally a fairly even tempered individual. I try not to overreact to things and try to always look at all sides of an issue. Even when news of the Rogers deal broke and how it was going to affect our TV access to the Habs...while I was pissed, I was taking it in stride. But in the last couple of days I've become irate! i've been trying to pin point the reason for my change in demeanour, and it boils down to this: I'm absolutely sick and tired of how things are being portrayed in terms of how WONDERFUL all these new developments are and how GREAT all this news is for Habs fans. Are we thought to complete imbecile's???? Because as far as I can tell, no matter how you slice it, Habs fans are getting screwed over and no matter WHAT they are offering, Habs fans, especially those outside the "Habs region"....(ok that's another point of contention. What the #$%^ is a Habs region. The official Habs site itself constantly goes out of it's way to show just how global the Habs are. the "Habs region" is every inhabited continent on the globe!!!! anyway...i digress). Where was I?? Right, Habs fans are either getting less coverage or less convenient access to coverage, and having to pay more for it. So ENOUGH already!!! Stop trying to make all these bogus announcements sound like things Habs fans should be thankful for! We will not be thankful for having something stolen from us and then sold back to us at an exorbitant price. We are better than that, and the club that binds us together and who profits from our loyalty should know that. Rant....over The Montreal Canadiens: sporting the best AND worst fans since 1909!
