According to Cap Geek Habs have just over $12M in cap space next year with Weber, Diaz and White all RFAs and ARmstrong, Nokia and Budaj as UFA. Even if Cole wasn't traded team still would have been $8M under the cap. Not taking into consideration a likely buyout of Kabrle (I only say Kabrle because he is going to be a healthy scratch until someone is hurt or benched). Yes it gives the team more cap flexibility over the next two years. The main question is though how is Cole/Ryder replace by MB at the end of the season. If he manages to sign a FA that can put up similar numbers for a reasonable $ amount then the trade can be worth it. Possibly one of the Gally's move up with Borque or Gionta moving down to the third line is another possibility. I say the only way to truly evaluate MB on this trade is how he uses the cap space. “I savour it every day, sometimes before practice I’m skating around and I’ll look at the logo on my jersey – I’m playing for the Canadiens!” - Mathieu Darche - Comment on Liveblog: Senators edge Canadiens 2-1 in Shootout

I think I read on cbc or maybe metro or the Toronto Star (actually come to think of it I dont know where it was) but most team fly into Pearson for all sports (NBA and NHL) because there is a private terminal. “I savour it every day, sometimes before practice I’m skating around and I’ll look at the logo on my jersey – I’m playing for the Canadiens!” - Mathieu Darche - Comment on More than 17,000 at Bell Centre for intra-squad game
Lehner is on a 2-way contract so he can still be sent down without being claimed by other teams. http://www.senatorsextra.com/main/lehner-bishop-arrive-in-ottawa-saturday-for-goalie-showdown “I savour it every day, sometimes before practice I’m skating around and I’ll look at the logo on my jersey – I’m playing for the Canadiens!” - Mathieu Darche - Comment on Liveblog: Canadiens draft Galchenyuk, Malcolm Subban to Boston
if thomas sits out he doesnt actually get paid, however he still counts against the cap so a team that is near the bottom may want him. “I savour it every day, sometimes before practice I’m skating around and I’ll look at the logo on my jersey – I’m playing for the Canadiens!” - Mathieu Darche
