Houle was #14 before he left for the WHA, and #15 when he returned. Those were his primary numbers with Montreal.

What did Koivu do to deserve his number being retired? He was arguably the "face of the franchise" during his tenure in Montreal, but they never won anything. Being a class act, and the fact he beat cancer are irrelevant to retiring a player's number. That should be reserved for the best of the best. Check his career numbers, and the success or lack thereof of his teams, and Koivu doesn't qualify.
  • Comment on Multimedia: Martin out, Cunneyworth in as Habs fire head coach
Finally! Maybe Gauthier was giving Martin enough rope to hang himself with. The numerous too many men penalties was just one example of the sloppy play over the past few years. If anglo coaches are now in play, how about Larry Robinson? Anyone have any interesting ideas on who the next permanent coach might be? Also, can anyone tell me how to re-add my avatar? I can't find an option in the profile to do it. Thanks, and happy holidays!

Koivu a number one center, that's hilarious.

Koivu, a #1 center, you've got to be kidding! He was fast, was tenacious, and gave it his all every minute of every shift, but no way was he a #1 center. A #1 center is an all around player, one that can score as well as play defense. A very good player, yes. #1 center, no way.

"Not a natural scorer or shooter". Of course he's not a "natural scorer or shooter". When the hell have the Canadiens EVER signed a "natural scorer or shooter" since Mats Naslund in the 80's? Gee, I hope he's as "special" a player as Lars Eller is. Maybe they can score 10 goals between them someday.
  • Comment on Chara will not be suspended

One player doesn't make a team big and gritty.  Getting bigger and grittier would be a deterrent to idiots like Chara.  Do you think the Canadiens or the Flyers of the 70's would put up with the cheap crap that goes on with head shots these days?  If they have no fear of retaliation, they can do whatever they want.
