sorry, thought you were discussing that it would be better to do a traditional because he only had 2 low paying years on his contract. But in Amnesty buyout the team does not get the 2/3rds benefit; the player receives 100% of the remaining contract.

its not as simple as 2/3rds remaining salary; it considers the cap hit: Buyout Details for Breire What the actual CAP HIT is in a normal buyout: 2013-14 $4,333,333 2014-15 $5,333,333 2015-16 $833,333 2016-17 $833,333 so they'd only shifting a small portion into 2015 - 2017 periods http://www.capgeek.com/buyout-calculator/?player_id=749&buyout_y=2013&buyout_m=06&buyout_d=15

Maybe I missing something, but isn't the whole premise an Amnesty buyout that it won't count towards the salary from my understanding, hense Amnesty from the salary cap so no 2/3 rds?

Hard to argue that they at least have not had above average talent, and for me "world class" is not far of a leap. Lundqvist, Nash, Richards and formerly Gaborik have had some pretty impressive accolades over the years; Olympic Golds, Stanley Cups, MVPs, scoring titles, Multiple All-star appearences, World cup invites... All are in the prime of their careers now. I think it takes a special coach to be able to manage the egos is the problem. Time to bring in Phil Jackson :-)

Great, Torts sitting Richards in the cheap seats... LA's probably circling the wagons to pick up next years top liner on the cheap. Or maybe Gainey in Dallas, if he's a bust. ;-)

I agree with Ed, think its a silly to suggest that Price's woes came from not playing in Europe.... the guy was a vensa candidate until the last two weeks of the season. If had gone to Europe, and he expereinced a downturn occurred, their would be some suggesting he played too much and ran out of gas. The team as a whole was great all season, playing playoff type hockey without getting too much involved goon hockey, with the exception of Prust, who seemed to be able set a tone without getting overly emotionally envolved, until he wasn't able do to injury. I think others tried to compensate but got to caught up with the "we're not going to be pushed around game" that they lost sight of what their game actually was built upon. Instead of focusing on speed, winning hockey battles, getting the goalie moving east-to-west, and creating penalties to give themselves the advantage, they became emotionaly frustrated, went looking for fights and the injuries piled up. They lost because they lost their heads, I believe it was that simple.
