So the Leafs hired a 28-year-old advanced-stats guy to be their assistant GM... how long until the Habs start raiding the halls of Eyes On The Prize? ;)

Hey now! I was driving through Belleville yesterday and handed our good friend Ian the cash for this year's Summit ticket... I'm officially in and hyped for it! If you've yet to send him your money order and SASE, get it done; it'll make you feel like hockey season is right around the corner! Hab fans want choice! To everyone who has signed the Rogers petition, thanks. But perhaps we're limiting our scope by making this a Hab fan-based petition. Sure, we've going to have to either pay through the nose or be stuck with 32 games to watch, but the western teams are getting hosed even more. Check out the number of games that Rogers is supplying to their cable packages: Flames: 22 Oilers: 22 Jets: 22 Canucks: 26 Followed by: Senators: 29 Habs: 32 Leafs: 40 I'm guessing that we should be hitting up Flames/Oilers/Jets/Canucks InsideOut for signatures, too. When this deal was announced it was all about Rogers and the NHL giving all fans more choice... except that some fans get more choice than others. Hab fans want choice! See, this is what bugs me about the Leafs (and to a lesser extent, the Senators). It's assuming another team's past as it's own. The Toronto Maple Leafs played their first game on February 17, 1927. They're not to play their 100th season for another 12 years. The FRANCHISE will be celebrating it's 100th, NOT the Maple Leafs. If they want to celebrate the franchise's birthday, then fine. But then they had better acknowledge the Toronto Arenas and Toronto St. Patricks along side the Maple Leafs and give them credit for the 2 Stanley Cups that they won (1 each). It really bugs be when someone tells me, or I see it in print, that the Toronto Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cups. They've won 11. It's almost as bad as the Senators hanging Stanley Cup Banners, with their own logo on them, when the original Senators franchise stopped playing in 1934. Hab fans want choice! I've been trying to beat insomnia by mulling over the Habs broadcast schedule at canadiens.nhl.com/club/schedule.htm and I'm not liking what I see for those of us who live in Leaf Land and points west. Just 3 games on the tube in December (Wild, Stars and Senators...ugh) and 4 in January (including Islanders and Blue Jackets). That's 7 games in two months. And the last 2 months of the regular season aren't any better: 9 games (including Panthers, Coyotes, Islanders, Blue Jackets, and Senators) and 8 are on a Saturday, ending with another 7 games in 8 weeks, and just 1 over the last couple of weeks of the season. Enjoy that playoff push! And to add insult to injury to Ontario Hab fans, 3 of those final 9 televised games are against the Leafs, so we'd be able to see those games on another channel anyway.
