I think we need a bit of perspective. There are too many highs and lows on this comment board. This team is what it is. A compilation of supporting cast members with an excellent goaltender and an up and coming defenseman. The rest of the team would compliment the second and third line of a bona fide contender, but none of them are top 6.In the end we will finish as everyone predicted-8th place. Boone's comments on Max Pac are bang on. He at least made us more difficult to play against. Right now we are the same team, in the same position as last year and for those who think we will just turn it on in the first round are naive. Last year we caught lightning in a bottle. This year teams know us-whether it will be Philly, Washington or Boston, they play a game that simply blocks out our forwards and renders them ineffective. We will make the playoffs but after that, I am expecting nothing. I am more worried about next year. I am worried that management will use injuries as an excuse for our performance and will do nothing in the off season. We cannot go into next year with this same team. Toronto is up and coming and so are a number of other teams. We need to change our direction. Tough decisions to be made. A healthy Max Pac makes all the difference but he needs help. The top three are not working out-who do you move? The only person to generate any interest will be Cammy. He will be a good addition to a second line elite team with larger bodies. We may get something bigger and more reliable in return. Gomez, well we either buy him out, or pay half his salary but we have to move him. He has lost the city. His presence on the ice is creating a negative atmosphere. If Markov wants too much, forget him, he is too unreliable and focus on Gorges. Bring back Mara, Sopel and the Wiz, as well as Gil and Hammer at a reduced rate. Say good bye to Spacek. I would keep AK,he will produce. Moen,Darche and Helpern are good grit. The kids are all right-Eller, DD, White will be fine. Pouliot and Pyatt are spare parts. We need to target a big body forward and get him otherwise we are repeating ourselves again next year. Please kill me now. This team is driving me crazy. We can't hit the net, we don't crowd the net, and when we do shoot it is from hell's half acre!

    Pop gun team-pop gun offence.

I have been a fan of this team since I was a kid. I have bled red, blue and white for years. I make it to Montreal twice a year from Timmins, Ontario to catch a game. I am a lifer for Les Habs. However I am also a realist and I see nothing in this team makes me believe that they will do anything in the playoffs, IF they hang on to 8th place. Of the 8 playoff teams , they are the weakest. Unfortunately Bob Gainey and Pierre Gauthier have built this team to small up front and too old and slow on defense, and they handcuffed them with the wrong coach. If this team is designed for speed than why not turn them loose? Use the one damn asset they have and let them go!!

My biggest concern is that we are saddled with this personnel for years. I say trade Hammer, Spacek and Gill right now to a playoff strong team and get something in return. Puoliot and AK are too unpredictable to keep so unload them as well. We have some good trade bait for teams and I am afraid we need to rebuild AGAIN!!Gomez I am sorry for his flashes of brilliance is eating up too much cap space, so place him on waivers and send him down a la Redden and maybe go after Richards.

Oh yeah and find a coach.

We need size and we need it for next year. This year to me is slipping away.

I am not giving up, I am waking up, there is a difference.

    Why not fire JM?

You can't fire the whole team, so might as well change their style to one that they are best suited.

The one thing the Habs can afford is salary, so let him go, and bring in a coach who plays to the strengths of this team. Speed and skating.

This team has stopped playing for him and his use of the players he does have, has led to this mess.

It is time to see what the farm hands can do, and either sit, bench or demote those players that are dragging their butts-Gomez, Pouliot and Spacek, to name a few.

Let Auld play a few games to rest Carey and let's find a coach who will let these guys skate and fly like they are built to do.

I see a loss tomorrow and Sunday just to complete the perfecta.

s\Smoke and mirrors is what this team is.

The winning record and the playoff run more of the Habs outstopping the opposition as opposed to outplaying them.

Our top 6 would merely compliment a line or two on other teams as opposed to being our source of goal production. They are simply too small to play the kind of game the NHL requires game in and game out.

Our defense is slow and immobile and at least Wisneuwski will be an upgrade. Tell me why we traded O'Byrne?

The system is a glorified trap that works well for a team of hard working, physical players who will take the hits and work like hell to protect their net. This team is not built that way.

We let Boucher get away for this?

Much like Calgary we need a new coach and one who is not afraid to demote high priced ineffective talent.

I do not see a win in their next 3 games, and by early 2011 we will be in 9th.

Same song as last year-back in and hope for the best.

I do not want to make the playoffs this year. We need to be embarassed to make serious changes from the coach down.

Time to move Spacek and Hamrlik. Bring up Subban and Weber.

    Sign Halak and Price.

    Move the brothers K.

Trade for some prospects and let's rebuild properly.

    This experiment has failed.

    Get over it!!!

    This was not Price!!!

Did he let the guy breeze around him and then push him into the goalie??!!!

Where was this team on Saturday with Halak in net??

This is a team and a coach's failure.

Why should tonight be any different.

All season this team teased us with stretches of 5-6 game winning streaks only to fall back to .500.

Tonight was a classic Habs 2010 season game.

Early pressure, nothing to show, and then fold when the pressure is on us.

This was not Price's fault, this is a team loss.

One glaring item-Hamrlik is too slow-in the ofseason time to move him , Spacek, and maybe a goalie for some up front help.

Time to let Subban and Weber play.

    Return to Glory

Philly and Boston are now stronger.

I would love PG to make a trade but let's be honest, who do we have that anyone would offer anything substantial for?

PK, Max Pac, Carey, and Plekanecs are untouchable. Eller, and DD are up and coming and Pouliot is rounding into form, so I would keep them.

Who does that leave us to bait for trade?

Gionta?Gomez?Cammalerri? Maybe the first and the third but one is hurt and I would not give up either unless we really received someone solid. No GM in their right mind would trade for Gomez's contract. AK46, well he may get something in return, but he would have to be packaged with a prospect, and based upon this team this year, I would not give up anything too much, just to make a trade. The rest of our team are old defense men and pluggers which do not garner much attention.

I think this year should play itself out and then we make serious changes next year.

Number one we ask Gomez to renegotiate, and if not we place him on waivers and outright to the minors ala Redden. He is too much of a cap hit and because of that he gets preferential treatment. When he plays bad,  his linemates end up being punished-see Ellar and AK46.We buy out Spacek, let Gill go and maybe bring back Hammer at a reduced price. Sign Markov and  Gorges, keep Mara, bring up Nash, allow Webber to grow, and then go out and find a big body forward for the love of God!!!

I think we keep AK46 because the guy can play but man when you are tagged with Gomez, your game is going to suffer.

The remainder of this year will be a tough battle, but I think we will be fine. Boston despite their moves will not win the cupand Philly still doesn't have a goaltender. We are not a Cup team and so let's not mortage the farm just for anyone.

    Return to Glory

I think we need a reality check people. This for the most part is the same team that went deep in the playoffs last year, and we did that by not outplaying other teams but by outstopping them. When we faced a team with similar resolve but with bigger, faster players we ran out of miracles. This year is no different, so if we do not slide down out of playoff contention, all we can hope for is the same reuslt. We simply are not built to compete effectively in the east. So a trade deadline pickup will not make a difference for this year. Hammer, Gill and Spacek would be extra parts on a playoff strong team, not the core D as in Montreal. Same goes for Gomez, Gionta and Cammy.

I think we move bodies now to prepare us for next year, so we can compete in what is becoming a very  big eastern conference. I would start with JM , and move on down the line.Unless we go one one hell of a streak ala Calgary, I see nothing in this team that makes me believe that a deep run is plausible.

Use the next week to identify who we should build around, and after that 'Lets' Make a Deal"
