Don't like it. I would have taken him at 1 year 4 million. No downside since we have cap space this year and no one to sign, so even if he lays an egg like last season we would be fine. With a 2 year we have to drag him around Gomez style if he doesn't perform. Its only 1 extra year, but its an important cap year since we will have to sign Subban. Short term it makes our team better, he is an upgrade on Ryder, but next year it could make money management a problem, to the point that it makes our team worse. Don't like it... But he could return to form. Low odds, but there's a chance.
  • Comment on Waite named Habs’ goalie coach; McCarron gets taste of Montreal’s hockey fish bowl (2013-07-04 12:53:38)
As a minor league (peewee) goalie coach I'm bummed I didn't get the call (maybe next time). But Waite from Chicago seems like a really good choice. Tons of experience, and he did a really good job with the Chicago guys. The improvement in Crawford over the last 2 years has been incredible. Most of that has to be credited to the goalie and his offseason training, but Waite deserves a lot of credit as well.

Haven't posted in a while, but here goes. I think a lot of people are glossing over the biggest problem this team has, which in my opinion, is that we do not have a number 2 D. Subban has proved this season, and in the playoffs, that he is a number 1. I could give evidence but I think all agree. Next season we will start to see him with some major TOI, up with the Sutter's and Karlsson's of the league. Problem is, who does he play with? Markov can't handle those minutes, and neither can Gorges in my opinion. He is a solid D, with all the heart in the world, but he lacks the body or talent for a number one pairing work. The only immediate solution I can see is Robyn Regehr. He's not ideal (age/cost), but he's big and can handle big minutes. He would stabilize our D pairings and IMO solve a lot of problems and help the PK. So as much as people want Clarkson, I think MB's best move would be to use the Kaberle buyout money to sign Robyn Regehr. D pairings are then: Subban - Regehr Markov - Emelin Gorges - Tinordi Spares: Bouillon, Diaz Any better D out there we could sign or trade for?

For the record, Rene Bourque kinda sucks.... Basically AK46 2.0, very hot at some times and very cold at others, except this year, where he's just been bad. Cammy's been bad as well, so we can't expect much, but I really do think a playoff team would have payed higher for a proven playoff performer at the deadline. Now... is this prospect any good?

The La Presse article embodies everything that is wrong about this stupid issue. Would the HIO reporters all complain if they hired a unilingual french coach, I don't think so. And aside from a few complainers who complain about everything, I bet it would be a non issue. I agree that as a bilingual province there should be some french representation, but forcing one specific position, especially one with such high importance, to speak french, simply reduces the pool of choices we have to pick from. As long as some member of the coaching staff can be there to help deal with french questions, that should be good enough. You hire the best man for the job, it should be that simple, a real shame it isn't.
