After watching quality hockey during the Olympics, I ended up shutting this Mtl/Det game off after the second period, in disgust. I have no further words for this diluted product, that passes for NHL hockey.

My very first hockey game ,ever, in 1952,when I was 8 years old,saw me standing on the seat in the old Montreal Forum with my Father and yelling"Come on Boston", through the very heavy haze of cigarette smoke. My Father wanted to disown me! Since then my geographical logic and my Father's programming, have "kicked in" and I am pulling for the Habs, but I always enjoy these games. Here's to a good clean match and fire-wagon hockey, which is so rare everywhere in the league these days!!

It will be an interesting evening in our house. My wife's name is Gilliane BRODEUR. She is normally a Montréal fan. Guess who she is rooting for tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the Way: I have been trying to figure out what would be a good thing to put into the raffle on Saturday afternoon at the HIO pre supper, pre game fun fest. One year I put in a hockey card collection. I was wondering of I brought my "Legends of Hockey" Video tape collection (5 tapes), if that would be acceptable????

I feel like tonight (and Saturday, with the HIO people watching at the Bell Center)) will be when we find out about the "character" of our team. There are still lots of little tweeks that will happen between now and Christmas, but after a few wins and losses, we start to see what we have. The losses are important because the style of the loss tells us what the guys have or don't have to bring to the game(staying power?). ( Notice I didn't say anything about "gelling" because I didn't want our friend from Calgary to have a "hissy fit", as he once did on this same subject a few years back)

Please put "hate" on the back burner. We have enough hate going around without "hating" people who earn their living playing hockey. I would suggest "strong dislike of his attitudes or abilities" if I would be allowed to do so. Regards, Fred

Fred D April 18, 2013 at 3:18 pm I am inclined to think we are throwing the baby out with the bath water. Every CH team always has a slump, with few notable exceptions. We “clinched” and everybody on the team sighed in relief and “let go” a notch. That is human nature. Having watched this game for more years than I like to admit, I feel that this “glitch” is better now than part way into the playoffs. I see we did score some goals against Pittsburg and I saw some rare fire show out from Carey Price when he “launched” himself to his left in the last period to make an outstanding save; this after his friend PK showed us a few moves of a pugilistic nature before being pitched out of the game. Sometimes being angry enough helps the focus, sort of the opposite to “chill out”. It is impossible to be that good that long and just “go bad” and slide into oblivion. I admit that that we may have been playing over our heads for a bit, but so what? In this game anybody can beat anybody on any given night, and our stats seem to indicate that we have had a good share of “given nights”. Interesting finish to this season, methinks!

I think Milan Lucic ruined him. He was never the same after that beating.
