Paterson is losing this game for Canada. 2 of the 3 goals are real stinkers. #FreeFucale

you could see it coming. This team Canada is going to have a very hard time getting a medal I think.

I don't want the Habs to draft another kid from the NDTP. They have much better choices of kids like Zack Phillips who may be available at 17 instead. They need to choose CHL kids who are far more ready for the Pro game. Back from the Abyss "System,Speed, and Skill" - P Gauthier "too small and soft" - Everyone Else

I love your optimism Ian but I can't say that I share it. Since the beginning of the 2003-2004 season the Habs have the following records 2003-2004 93pts 208 GF 192 GA 2005-2006 93pts 243 GF 247 GA 2006-2007 90pts 245 GF 256 GA 2007-2008 104pts 262 GF 222 GA 2008-2009 93pts 249 GF 247 GA 2009-2010 88pts 217 GF 223 GA 2010-2011 93pts 210 GF 205 GA with 2 games remaining all these 2011 totals should change. I started with the season before the lockout as a comparison of results due to different styles of play. It is clear that 2011 looks a lot like 2003-2004 in terms of points, goals for,and goals allowed. There has been no improvement in any of the categories that matter. The personnel has changed both on the ice and behind the benches but the results remain virtually identical in every season. You can regard both the 104 point and 88 point seasons as statistical anomalies since they were not foreseeable by trend. What has remained a constant to create these results? I believe it's the lack of size up front that has been the culprit. None of the Habs teams in this time period were considered even average sized in the NHL. This is a deterrent to getting better in my view. The future is no brighter either. Currently the team lists 28 forwards as prospects (we know they are not all real prospects as some are AHL filler players) Of these 28 forwards 20(71.4%) of them are 6 feet tall or smaller. Of the 20 only 6(30%) are actually as tall as 6 feet.Fully half of the listed prospects at forward are under 6 ft tall. Who are the players over 6 feet tall? Avtsin,Conboy,Engqvist,Nattinen,Quailer,Schultz,Walsh,Wyman. No scoring forwards on the list with the possible exceptions of Quailer(knee injury looks to have derailed his career) and Avtsin. So in short 1 player out of 28 can be considered as big enough and talented enough to be a scoring forward in the NHL...one day. This team needs to address the serious shortcomings on this list of prospects in the worst way. If not this treading water act will continue to frustrate and anger the fans. Will this administration finally acknowledge the failure of this policy? We can only hope. Back from the Abyss "System,Speed, and Skill" - P Gauthier "too small and soft" - Everyone Else

Why is anyone surprised? I expected this to happen as it has so many times before. I am not planning on watching the coming beat down in New Jersey either. Playoffs are not a slam dunk if they can't find another 3 wins. Back from the Abyss "System,Speed, and Skill" - P Gauthier "too small and soft" - Everyone Else
  • Comment on About last night … (2011-03-27 11:50:15)
The team has run out of gas and guts. The kindly ol' coach won't play the kids anymore (6-8 minutes per night isn't playing) and the vets are sucking fumes IMO.Plecks came back too soon I think and needs a couple of games to get going again. Cammi has just plain sucked since he signed on. The playoffs last year have been the only time he's looked like what he was supposed to be. I think the system doesn't fit the personnel and the personnel is too small to have the sort of season long stamina to run it. JM had the same issue with Ottawa and those teams never had any gas left for the playoffs. This is not improvement in any way over the previous schemes that we've seen in the last 6-8 seasons. This team is mediocre and not getting better. I am longing for the day when the smallest player on the ice is 6 ft and 198lbs but it's not coming anytime soon. • Comment on Habs call up Engqvist, Palushaj to AHL (2011-03-21 21:57:20)
Since it's clear that a faceoff guy was badly needed I'm glad to see Engqvist recalled. There is no need to rush Halpern back into the lineup with Engqvist available. He's big and very solid defensively by all current evidence. I can see Pyatt back on the wing on the fourth line against Buffalo. It's nice to see all this depth for once. I wonder if there will be a lengthy suspension for the intent to injure hit on Patches by Chara. He obviously decided to take a liberty since it was 4-0.

  • Comment on Price’s agent hails Habs for smooth talks (2010-09-03 20:47:35)

He does have a losing record once you factor in the shooout loses that he has over his career. The 10 games over record dismisses any shootout losses though it credits him with shootout wins in the win column. It is only fair to not conveniently ignore those losses. For the record I like Price and am hoping he's about to really turn it on.
