i think that Jones is paired with Weber so that he can hone his skills at the NHL level while having a partner able to effectively cover for his mistakes along the way. Having Rinne in net helps too. Besides, I am not sure where the offence will come from if not from the blue line on that team

Coaching is about more than team and individual tactics. Teaching a young player how to be a professional, how to handle the scrutiny from the press, how to manage their new-found wealth, and how to manage their personal affairs all matter to the on-ice performance and therefore should matter to the coach. While there are (or should be) other front-office staff members to help players with these off-ice topics, a good coach (like a good manager in business) takes an active interest. These are the type of coaches a player will run through a brick wall for.

His comment does imply acceptance from the players of the role he intends. I suspect most entry-level players are so excited just to be in the NHL that they are willing to at least listen to what the coach has to tell them, but not all. Some young players, especially if they are very talented and in demand, expect coaches and veterans to prove that what they have to offer really will help, which coaches and veterans may resent. Certainly a veteran who is in demand is likely to expect a coach to earn his respect before buying into the pitch. I think that PK decided it is worthwhile to humble himself somewhat in order to enable harmony between he, his team mates and the coaches; not that he believes he was ever in the wrong with his past behaviour but has realized he cannot be successful without his team also being successful. If I am right in my assumptions, I think that speaks well of PK as a young man, and as a current and future leader. I can only guess to what extent Therrien contributed to this versus to what extent he is benefiting from PK's maturation to which he made no real contribution.

I don't agree. I think he was referring to all the players. I think this is what he tried to do in Pittsburgh too. That may be his intent but it is debatable how well he does it.

Changing player personnel is more achievable than persuading the league to change how games are called. I think that we have too many players that are soft. I don't necessarily mean small although size and strength helps to effectively battle in the corners, along the boards and to drive the net. Gallagher and Eller are effective without great size. Bigger, stronger defencemen would also make a difference. Even Pittsburgh with all its talent needs to improve in this area. We certainly do.

Don't forget that when the Canadian dollar was only worth about $0.62 US, it was the American clubs that kept teams from all Canadian markets but Toronto and (maybe) Montreal afloat.

I suspect that it will take $8/year x 8 years in part due to the income tax take.

The playoffs are the best test of a team's caliber. This series will do more to help Bergevin and company assess what changes are required to move into contention. This season has been a pleasant surprise after last season but we are seeing more clearly than ever that we are, in fact, too soft to win. Even with a fully fit Eller in the lineup this is still true. And, this will take a few seasons to correct. Oh well, one step closer.
