Actually, he can't be suspended for more than 6 games unless an in-person meeting is held. They can suspend for less than 6 if they feel it is warranted. My point is that he has a valid argument that the Emery ruling set the standard, and the NHL hasn't the guts to give the proper suspension.

So Thornton is going to attend his hearing on Friday. If his defense is based partly on the precedent that the NHL approved of Ray Emery beating the crap out of an unwilling participant, how can they suspend Thornton? What rule did he break? Fighting is only a 5 minute penalty. slew-foot.. 2 minutes. Maybe an instigator penalty on top of that. I'm expecting a slap on the wrist - (3 games). Its absurd, but will probably happen.

hopefully he's another guy who's out of a job next year.

Maybe they will forget to schedule his "TBD" meeting and he will remain indefinitely suspended until he eventually just retires and disappears. I also wonder what Thornton meant when he said "I hope he's alright... etc." When you try to beat a guy in the head with your fists, isn't the whole idea to hurt him? Otherwise, why bother?

I agree, except that Parros isn't there to necessarily fight. Do you think Scott would have dressed if Nolan didn't see Parros warming up at the other end? I do. Its like the arms race... mutually assured destruction. Its a shame, but its worth $1M a year to keep the other teams honest. Also the B's were pretty quiet on Thursday when Parros dressed. He didn't have to fight, he just let them know that he was ready to.

I respect Shawn Thornton every bit as much as I respect Todd Bertuzzi.

Can someone help me out here, as I have misplaced my handbook on "The Code". Hamilton runs Prust into the boards from behind, no penalty is called, so Prust has to fight Thornton to exact revenge on Hamilton? Is that why we "need" fighting in hockey, to prevent guys like Hamilton from cheap-shoting guys? Well, as long as Hamilton learned a lesson. Personally, I wish Prust had beat the crap out of Hamilton.

Why not just save Stevie some time and call up the guys from 2010? I'm sure Neidermeyer could get into shape by February, and Pronger would be fine for 2 weeks. I understand that experience is very important, but how can Luongo and Dan Boyle have their spots confirmed already as long as they don't screw up royally? If they were close to Price and PK, sure, but they're not!

I can honestly say I only watch 82 games each year (until playoffs). I only watch the Habs and that is plenty of hockey for me. As long as I can see my Habs 82 times a year in any language, I don't care about all these extras. Back in the day, I watched whatever CBC told me to watch. But that's just me...

Boone: "I can't imagine Canadiens hockey without Pierre Houde and Marc Denis" If the Habs are in English (TSN, CBC), RDS is usually 7-8 seconds behind, so when Habs score I flip to RDS for Houde's goal call. #classic
