I don't think we lack as much talent as you think. I think we have sacrificed the success of the team for the success of one player. I don't really understand why. Gallagher and Pacioretty are pretty good. 11 creates lots of turnovers on the forecheck and 67 is just an athlete out there with great size and speed. I think if they were centered by 81 or even 48 they would be a better line. MT is doing everything in his power to get every possible point out of DD...and still he's on pace for 40 pts.

Pretty gross of Therrien to put the DD line out there with 30 seconds left and a man advantage. DD is terrible and doesn't deserve this. Eller hustled all game and created the only goal. DD gets a useless PPG empty netter and now we have to endure 10 more games of him on our top line where we maybe win 3-4 if Price keeps playing like this. We have 6 regulation wins in our last 26 games. This team is terrible yet we never change that top line. It's awful. DD is awful. I hate us.

What is our record since? Does it even matter? He's going to come back and play with like Moen and Prust and get no PP time.

He is so terrible. It has sapped any and all desire I have to watch this team. Yes, the DD line has been our most productive line. News Flash - every team has a "most productive line." It's usually the line that gets 75% of the PP time. Ours happens to be way worse than other teams' most productive line. Have you seen the Leafs top line? You actually think the DD line is productive compared to that? It's a joke. We won't have a guy with 60pts on our top line this year.

Vegas, you are everything.

He is so terrible. Any of our other centers would be better in that role. Why does he keep getting all this opportunity?

I'm sorry, but I couldn't agree less. Every team has a top line. Every team's top line typically has more offensive output than the other lines. They play top offensive minutes 5on5 and top offensive minutes on the PP (especially in 5on3 situations). With all that opportunity, DD should be producing more than our other centers. Even still, he has less points than Plekanec. He is awful on the PP, as evidenced by the fact that our PP percentage has plummeted since he undeservingly regained the top spot. He plays with our two best wingers, and more importantly plays the first wave of the PP with Subban and Markov, who are really the key to our offense. All told, it's not a mystery why DD has some production. The problem is, IT IS NOT ENOUGH PRODUCTION FOR A FIRST LINE. The opportunity cost of having him up there is killing this team. We have looked like complete dogsh*t since that 10-game winning streak (when we also looked like dogsh*t for some reason), and I truly, honestly believe we would be much better off with someone else in that role. Eller is better. Pleks is better. I think Briere would do more in that role. Galchenyuk is better when you consider the developmental implications. So, DD is the 5th best center on the team, yet plays minutes like he's #1. Why? He had 1 pt in 20 games and was playing a shift on the top line the very next night. No one on this team (especially the young guys) gets treatment like that.

I'm sick of hearing how the Desharnais line played well. Since DD regained the "#1" center spot, our PP has tanked, and we've won something like 4 games in regulation in our last 19. Even if that line plays "well," they don't play well enough to be a top line on a winning team. Why the hell is Eller playing left wing yet every year we sit and whine about finding a big center? As long as DD occupying top 6 center spot, we will be a bad team.

Can anyone explain MT's refusal to put together good PP lines? We probably have one of the best PP defensive pairings in the league, but the worst chemistry of forwards down low. Since 51 was inexplicably rewarded with the top spot on the PP, we have been a horrible 7-for-61 (11.5%) - one of the worst in the league. 11-51-67 is an awful powerplay line and they just keep getting put out there again and again. It's awful. None of them are particularly great puckhandlers on the half-board. Honestly, CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY THESE GUYS (Desharnais in particular) DESERVES TO KEEP GETTING PP1 TIME OVER PLEKANEC, ELLER, BRIERE OR GALCHENYUK (pre-injury he was getting almost no PP time anymore)?!?!

Mr. Boone talks a good deal about "meritocracy" and then proceeds to hang Daniel Briere out to dry. On that same subject (meritocracy, btw), how does anyone justify the ice time of David Desharnais?! Briere only has 5 goals? Desharnais only has 3. Briere has 10 pts, Desharnais now has 13. DD has played more games with better linemates and gets more PP time than Briere, and he has THREE more points. Eller on the other hand has been better than Desharnais in all 3 zones on the ice. And Plekanec?!? How can you talk about meritocracy and at the same time explain to me why DD would ever be on the ice during a 5-on-3 when down a goal over Plekanec, as we saw on Sunday night against Florida. The David Deshanrais scenario has made it very clear that this team is not about meritocracy. Plekanec, Eller, Galchenyuk and even Briere are all more capable players who can play the center position and have not gotten the same sheltered ice time and winger support as DD. The two best natural wingers on the team are undoubtedly 67 and 11. The opportunity cost of keeping them with DD is killing me. The coaching staff has tried so hard to "get him going," and I really wonder if it's worth the opportunity cost. I think 27, 14, 81 and even 48 could do more than 51 could if they were given the opportunity. There is clearly no meritocracy here.
