  Say what you will about Kovalev, but name  another player who is:

  a) available for trade

  b) would cost almost nothing to acquire

  c) would have a bigger impact on this team and this city

  then Alex Kovalev.

  Granted, I'd take Stamkos  if he could be had, but if we remain within the realm of reality, Kovalev represents the best possible solution to fill out our top six for a playoff run.

  UFA at season's end and if acquired at the deadline, could also be coupled with the acquisition of a number 2-4 defenseman (Bieksa?).

  Agreed. I'd take Souray of six years ago, but if he did that today, he'd break a hip. lol.

  Souray's a good character guy with a great shot who's getting too old and is injury prone. He also has 2 years remaining on a bad contract.

  I believe a better option for the Habs would be Kevin Bieksa. Tough, good on PP, and can eat up minutes in Markov's absence (and when his salary comes off teh cap).This way we don't overwork Hammer, Spacek and Gill.

  Bieksa is a UFA, so we aren't stuck with him if things do go well.

  The fact that has crushed Mike Richards in fights is icing on the cake :-)
