Born in 62, think may either be a tad older, or luckier than I was. I sadly never got to see the Rocket, but was so immersed in the 70's teams that I could tell you anything about them. My Dad was at the Richard riot game, and I was at the Nordiques/Canadiens Good Friday massacre. Will not forget that anytime soon. It's funny but I've worn the Habs logo in more countries than I can count, and inevitably someone will recognize it. "Fans don't boo nobodies". Equally powerful response. If I can say one thing, when you take your 4 year old, and maybe he'll be 6 or even 7 by that day, remember what I felt when I was taken. I watched the game and I also watched him (you). If he sees it in you, if he feels it in you, he'll want to be like you and feel it too. Just let him absorb it all and I envy him that moment. For me, and just for me, tonight will be a game I will watch with pleasure and pride. I hope for the best, I believe in them, but I also realize it's not about wearing my lucky socks, or sitting on the right place on the couch, or any other superstition. It's about watching a team I love, and always will, and just pulling for them with everything I have. It won't make a difference, I know, but it will to me. It's good to believe in something, isn't it? "Fans don't boo nobodies". Reggie Jackson - Comment on Update from morning skate: Budaj in for Price, Blunden for Prust
Just remember, they don't have to win it all to make you proud, this just makes you stronger. But when they do, my friend................ you will see the city in ways you never saw it before. And mark my words, they will win again! "Fans don't boo nobodies". Reggie Jackson - Comment on Update from morning skate: Budaj in for Price, Blunden for Prust
I think this will be my first, and only, post today. I just don't think I can put up with the haters anymore, at least not today. I went to my first game, as a 7 year old, in 1969. My Dad took me. He's gone now. We played Detroit. I don't remember the score, but I remember John Ferguson got into a fight. I don't remember the fight, but I do remember that it was the first time in my life that I heard my Dad yell. I was privileged to be a fan during the 70's and saw some of the most amazing hockey I ever saw, even to this day. I was on the corner of Crescent and Ste Catherine on the night they won in 1986 (no rioting for me, but an extraordinary night to be a Habs fan). I remember almost every game in 1993 and loved every minute of it. And I suffered along with everyone else during those years where we were an irrelevant franchise, and it hurt really bad. I say this because being a Habs fan is so much more than being a fan of the home team. They are in my heart, they are in my soul, they are part of all of my values; they taught me that true devotion only comes during dark times, they taught me that loyalty and commitment will trump raw talent any day. And they made me proud. They always made me proud. If, and I do not believe it will be, tonight is the night we say goodbye to this team, I say to them with an honesty from deep in my soul, that I am proud of them, I believed in them, and I always will. And I'll thank them for an astonishingly happy surprise this year. This team will rank in my top 10 for reasons far beyond their accomplishment on the ice. That said, kick their f*cking asses tonight. I don't want to go to the ballet on Saturday. Go Habs Go. "Fans don't boo nobodies".
