I agree with this plan. We should try to balance out the lines. I would even consider moving Eller up to 2nd line and dropping DD down at some point just to see how DD responds with less skilled linemates. We need to know this to determine DD's value before signing him next year. Not crazy about Gomez on the 4th line. I'm all for 2nd chances but he's not a 4th line type player. Stick with Nokes and send Gomez down.

OK. So let's think outside the box. Since there seems to be a trend towards giving Gomez one more chance in a new environment, why not give him the best possible chance. Put him on the top line though pre-season and the 1st 10 games or so and see if he has it or not. Patches - Gomer - Cole Eller - Pleks - Gio Bourque - DD - Moen Prust - White - Armstrong Spare - Nokes

Let's assume our lineup is as follows. Patches - DD - Cole Bourque - Pleks - Gio Moen - Eller - Armstrong Prust - Nokes - White Gorges - Subban Markov - Emelin Kaberle - Bouillon How many goals would you expect from each Line? How many from the defence?

I actually prefer Plan D. I realize Bourque did virtually nothing after joining the team last year. There is no excuse for that, but I would like to see how he responds to a new coaching staff, new work environment and better over all team depth. If he responds well, it may help us get into a playoff position, or he could be moved at the deadline next year. I still think we should try to get a crease clearing D for the 3rd pairing as well.

He just might. Bourque is one of the guys who I think will benefit from a fresh start with a new coach. He clearly did not respond well to JM.

I think it will be interesting to see how Eller responds to a different coach. Like many Habs, he seemed uncertain of what was required of him under JM. We could see a much improved player this year. Needs better wingers though. I still think DD will be the odd man out one day, although I would be happy to be proven wrong as I admire what DD has accomplished.

So our thoughts have turned to the future of our centremen. Now that we have our big, skilled centre, what happens to DD, Pleks, Eller and Leblanc. Obviously there is no rush. Galchenyuk will no doubt be back in Sarnia next year. But what happens when he makes the team? Who stays and who goes? IMO Pleks is just as good offensively as DD and brings too many other things to the team to let him go. Eller has size and potential. I'd like to see him with decent, consistent wingers before making a decision about him. Leblanc also showed reasonably well last year, but may not be a top 6 player. And then there's DD who earned everybody's respect with last year's performance. But if we project Galchenyuk as the eventual #1, and Pleks as #2 b/c he can do so many things, can we see DD as a #3? I can't really see it. The day may be coming when there won't be a place for DD on the Habs.
