First of all I want to clarify that I am a Carey Price fan, but I think that although good, he will never be great, and anything less than great won't win a Cup for us. I actually feel that in the future he may have some issues playing at the level of his contract, so in my opinion we should explore the trade possibility, especially if such move can make us better as a team. Secondly there are some goalie situations this year that i think we can take advantage of. In Calgary Kipper is likely playing his last games in a hockey jersey, and Calgary has no starter, backup or prospect goalie coming up. Last time in this position they traded for Kipper from San Jose, and they came up big. In Vancouver its obvious that a goalie will be moved, likely Luongo, not only because there is a matter of ice time, but because he has a bad contract that brings his team above the salary ceiling next year. (i have to mention that Luongo's bad contract is better than Price's money wise) So here comes some thoughts worth consideration (according to capgeek we have about 5M in cap space next year): 1. Don't buy out Kaberle, he has a year left and maybe we can claim something for him at the next deadline. Keep him for depth 7th-8th in the depth chart. 2. Trade Price to Calgary for the 6th overall?, the 30th overall? and TJ Brodie. 3. Trade Desharnais and Leblanc (roster player and prospect) for Luongo and keep the last buyout if he declines, the next few seasons 4. Sign at the off season Clowe 4,5M for 4 years and Murray 2,75M for 2 years, Bickell 1,25M for 3 years, and have 3-4 M in cap space with a line up like Luongo-Budaj Clowe - Plekanec - Gionta Pacioretty - Galtsenuyk - Gallagher Prust - Eller - Bourque Bickell - Halpern - Moen ex. White- Dumont Subban - Emelin TJ Brodie - Gorges Markov - Murray ex. Diaz - Bouillion- Kaberle Just thoughts here people...i think this would be a team hard to beat....And with the picks i would aim for Nichushkin(LW), Mantha(LW), Fucale(G) and babby Subban at the later rounds...Thanks for sharing... - Comment on About last night ...
We have a 13-4-4 record and there are 27 games left. It is said that in order to make the playoffs, a team must reach the 55-56 point plateau, which means that for the rest of the 27 games, we can have a record of 10-11-6, good for a total record of 23-15-10, and 56 points. Personally i predict we will amase even more points, so the playoffs seems a very decent possibility, against all odds. So i guess we will be buyers at the deadline...What kind of buyers though, is something worth great consideration from the teams management. Keeping in mind that Bergevin's moves so far indicates a rather intelligent manager, i suppose that any move, even as a buyer, will have to be according to the future stracture plan of this team. I would rather not mess with the chemistry of our forwards lines, barrying injuries of course, although i think that we have an expandable centerman, not named Galtsenuyk and Plekanec. Desharnais and Eller are actually two candidates for one spot, but for now i wouldn't made either available. We do need though, to shore up our defense. We aren't going far with the current tandems, and we need to add size back there. Markov-Emelin is a great 2nd pair unit, and i really liked the Diaz-Gorges tandem also. They are good as a 3rd pair unit. So this leaves Subban-Bouillion as a tandem and Kaberle, Weber as extras. We all know that Subban can be a top line player, but he needs someone better than Bouillion besides him. Franky is a great acquisition, and a very servicable 7thD, that can fill in when needed. So we have Kaberle and Weber as expendables in order to land a top pairing defensemen. Is it possible? I think it is, actually if we sweeten the pot a little. At first who top pairing D is available? Obviously a sellers-team that needs to get younger or shade salary. Options? Jay Bouwmeester (CGY), might be available, and for his services i would offer Kaberle (salary reasons), Leblanc (decent prospect) and CGY's 2nd rd pick in 2013 back. Its a very good offer i think that CGY can't easily reject, and serves both sides equally. A Subban-Bouwmeester tandem would be great. Dmitry Kulikov (FLA), might be also available. In this case though there isn't much salary involved, so i don't think FLA would take Kaberle back. I am quite sure that with the obvious departure of Weiss, they would be looking for a centerman, and i would consider a one on one trade of Eller for Kulikov. - Comment on Kings open Western final with win vs Coyotes
Last year the MAX-DD-COLE line enjoyed some huge success. The problem is that team success comes above personal stats and one line numbers. More balanced teams are hard to play against, and rosters with depth are usually the ones that wins it all. It is a no brainer that if we draft one big centerman in Galtsenuyk or Grigorenko (predicted to be NHL ready) then one of the current three C is expendable. Perhaps Plekanec holds the most value of the three, but i wouldn't rush into trading one of them. Eller needs time , Desharnais needs to resume consistency, and Plekanec is a two-way specialist. The position we must improve is the 4th line center. We should develop Enqvist and Nattinen for this spot but for now we need a big PK,FO gritty guy to fill the gap. Via FA we can spot Gaustad, Moore, Stoll, McClement, all decent options for this spot. - Comment on Liveblog: Rangers beat Caps 2-1, advance to Eastern Conference final
I really like hard working players that began their careers as grinders, and have stepped up to be valueable assets to their teams. One of these players that i wish we had in our roster is Chimera. He can be a very hard player to play against and he would look awsome in our 3rd line. Thats why i have a suggestion: We trade our 3rd overall for WSH 11th and 23nd overall plus Jasson Chimera. WSH does this because the can use one of the russian-american centers to play with Ovetchkin and Semin, and MTL does this because we can draft a big centerman with the 11th pick in Gaunce, or maybe Faksa, we can draft defensemen Maata (defensive pair of Tinordi in London) with the 23rd pick and we can claim a hard working player in Chimera, at once. Just thoughts here for discussion, i just feel a Gaunce-Maata gain at the 1st round may pan out to be a better claim than either Galtsenuyk or Grigorenko. - Comment on Liveblog: Rangers beat Caps 2-1, advance to Eastern Conference final
