Anyone know why Isles have held Halak out of all the games against the Habs this year? Are they trying to gain a psychological advantage for the playoffs? Seems odd not to use your best goalie against the east's best team.

I didn't realize you were from Winnipeg, it makes a whole lot more sense now and I get where you're coming from. I'd rather have had an expansion team in both hockey and football than take someone else's team.

I was there with my kids. My daughter was the one in the Carey Price jersey. (along with 5000 others)

Note to Shane Oliver - I always enjoy your posts. I'm disappointed you're against hockey in AZ but I understand where you're coming from. As fans here we feel pretty helpless. For four years we went back and forth over whether we were going to lose the team or not. Many people just stopped caring so they wouldn't have to deal with it. But I don't think the concept of hockey in the desert is any different than hockey in southern California. It took a long time to catch on there and most people said it never would. Remember the joke that there were thousands of transplanted Canadians in LA and they all moved there because they hated hockey? The advantage LA has over Phoenix is they got Gretzky the player, we got Gretzky the coach. Huge advantage to them. It takes a generation to really build a fan base and I believe it will happen in Phoenix. While the team is horrible this year, they are building the right way and that will ultimately be what brings the fans in also.

My two favorite days of the year - Christmas and the day the Habs play in Phoenix. Not necessarily in that order. We usually get Montreal at the end of the west coast swing so it's not always their best performance but it's always exciting. A few observations: Eller - DSP - DLR played really well as a line last night. Attacked the puck, had each others backs and were all very visible on the ice. DSP's behind the back pass was great, as was Eller's spin around shot. Maybe he should shoot that way more often. Individually Max and Gally were making plays all game long. What caught my attention most was the pairing of Gilbert and Petry. Very solid, very controlled. Petry wasn't flashy but was always in the right place and he always made the smart play. Until the end of the game when they looked a little tired you knew the Coyotes were not going to threaten while they were on the ice. They looked more like a number one defence pair than PK and Markov. Markov definitely looked tired although he did play more physical than I expected. Just a couple weeks ago Beaulieu and Gonchar were our second pairing of choice, last night they barely played. That shows the value of Petry's acquisition. Mitchell was interesting. Seems like he dropped to his knees to win many of the faceoffs. But it worked. Price was brilliant as always but the guy I admire most is Plekanec. A quiet leader, always dependable. No one talks about him much this year but he's always makes the players around him better. He seems to make guys more confident about their game. I love that he passed to Gally for the open net goal when he could have had it himself. Now the long wait - nine more months until Christmas. Unless maybe a Stanley Cup comes along first!

Coyotes have some great prospects coming along. Domi, Duclair, Dovorak. Plus whoever they grab out of the draft this year. They could be an exciting team in three years. Probably too late for Shane Doan who is the heart of this team.

He was actually on waivers a month or two ago. They wanted to get his attention. Overall he's done a nice job on the checking line for the Yotes for several seasons.

I'm going to the game here in Phoenix on Saturday. Really looking forward to it but don't expect to see Price in goal. They should be able to win easily without him right? Right?

Yandle was a great guy in Phoenix. Never complained, just worked hard. He'll either score the winning goal for the Rangers or have it go into his own net off his skate. Either way, something always happens when he's on the ice.
