  Not sure why you need to limit the list to five ... its seems rather arbitrary. The important concept is the one you have stressed: You need youth to build on. I would add that you also need a steady stream of youth. The salary cap requires that a significant portion of your team be cheap (but good). Look at all of the Cup winners since the lookout. They have a core of well paid, very strong veterans, and, most importantly, young, cheap talent that can compete.

  Agree ... he is the real deal. You don't lose over 440 man-games to injury and still challenge. Maybe they believe they can influence the contract negotiations. ;)

  I am so glad the DD to World Championship nonsense is not being proposed on this forum. I hear it far too much on the radio and it is beyond comprehension. There are at least 11 centers better than DD on the non-playoff teams who are better. Luckily, the Team Canada brass are smarter (or less invested) than too many people in the Montreal Sports Media.

  There is still a good chance that there will be a "buy out" linked to the new CBA (just like last time). I believe the HABS have been planning for this.

  Team Canada invites are not public yet. Just a quick thought. Subban should be invited, Georges is a maybe and DD is a definite NO. There are at least 11 centers ahead of DD. There would have to be a lot of injuries for an average C like him to make it.
