Yeah they would have a ton of money. But, who would they sign. As shown in recent years other than the Gomez year, the habs have had a terrible time persuading players to come play for them. Don't get me wrong, I hate having Gomez on the team. I think he has become very useless, especially with the rise in play of Deharnais and Eller, but I still stand pat that our team would look very different if we didn't get him. Personal opinion, in this case different would be bad.

It's true. Cammalleri said something along the lines of when he signed, the main reasons were the fan base and the Gomez trade. Said it looked like the Canadiens meant business. As for Gionta, zero percent chance he signs with the habs if Gomez wasn't acquired. Hell he would probably be a Devil still.

As much as Gomez frustrates me and as bad as his contract is. We have to remember that if Gainey didn't trade for Gomez, we wouldn't have Gionta and we probably wouldn't have Cammalleri either.
