Lockout means another lottery pick. Just sayin.

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I feel it necessary to elevate the conversation and complete your reference all at once with two missing and critically important words: Collect Underpants. As you were.

Three reasons to want another lockout: 1. I need more than a few months to get over how bad we were last year, 2. Whatever Bergevin does, it's hard to believe he's going to build a contender out of a last place team in a single summer, and 3. We'd get another very high draft pick.

I find the characterisation of BriseBois as a cap genius to be hilarious. Anyone with the technological prowess to, say, post on this site could, if it was one's job, come up with a spreadsheet to figure out cap impacts. Basic--and I'm talking Grade 7 basic--math is what you need. The sad reality is that in the NHL, they haven't yet realised that for a GM, a college degree and/or business experience is much more relevant than a glorious NHL career. BriseBois has that experience, but why not evaluate him against others who are actually qualified instead of calling him a genius just because he didn't leave highschool at age 14 to play junior? My

I have a lot of respect for the Habs, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want them helping my kids with their math homework given the fact that they can't count to six.

Gainey drafted AK and Corey U in 2003. Ronald Corey hired Houle.

Mean average? Is that like the defense oriented goalie? :)

Great signing. Wiz can't be re-signed guys, don't be ridiculous. He gets Rafalski numbers, and last I heard we needed scoring also. Yes, the best case involves Markov, PK, Gorges, and Wiz along with two others. But who comes in to help the scoring? Jagr at 280k? Crosby and Malkin pull a Kariya and Selanne with the Avs? bring back Kovy? Stop. Gill made PK Subban (not to mentin the other PK) much better, and Subban is an asset worth developing correctly. Oh and the Habs were one of the most penalised teams in the league, so we need the acronym to be firing on both cylinders. If we could only have thought about that with guys like Ribeiro, Grabovski, etc., we wouldn't be staring at a 19 year cup drought. I think Gauthier is trying to do better than the last 5 year rebuilding plan. I love me some Gainey, but it didn't work out. Houle remains a nice guy and a good ex-NHLer, but Zubov, Zholtok, and Petrov (all of whom I loved at the time) also didn't get more than Masterson consideration if that. And that's because unless a guy comes back from cancer or something, who cares about the Masterson. Sorry, getting off track. If anything, we should find André Savard and pay him whatever he needs to run the draft again. Man, that guy ran the table. Oh and his choice for coach is looking OK now too.

While no one reads these, I'd like to post this for posterity. The new dynasties are teams that can remain competitive for a decade or more. Multiple generations. To do that in the NHL, you need to do what one does in any other field: train teachers as well as students. Lidstrom made Defensemen, not just Norris trophies. Chelios, Neidermayer... The great thing about the Habs is that they have a roster they can build from the goalie out. A core of Price, Subban, Markov, Gorges, Wiz, and Gill is probably the best in the league. Great D and G, unless you have Sid, Mario, or Gretz. Trades and UFA won't land those in the post Pocklington era. That requires finishing last for long stretches of time, hoping that your suckitude coincides with the arrival of a 17 year old genius. I say go with D and G, especially when you already have em. The forwards have a few strong bones. Pleks and Cammy have shown everyone what they do when challenged. Desharnais started to. Paccioretty is already there. The rest, many of whom I really like (Gio, Gomez, AK) a team in this era cannot afoord to carry. Buyouts and minor leagues maybe. Above my paygrade to decide. I think all 3 are good, just not good fits. If you cut, this team has a fantastic young core that is poised to excel for decades, particularly if you can breed a culture of excellence whereby PK trains the next version of himself 5 years from now. I like Gomez and Gio especially. They aren't the most popular guys all the time, and maybe they reinvent themselves as each other for a year (imagine if Gionta passed?!?). If you don't, we become the Rangers. A bubble team with a passionate fan base that doean't require victory to make money. The REAL trap. Cubs. Here's hoping the men upstairs make the right calls. Which are probably not mine. Which leads me to... Disclaimer: if they don't and the Habs win, I'm fine with that too! More good news: we are free from the winter. Enjoy the summer all.
