I would replace one of the first round picks with a prospect. Especially if we can give them Louis LeBlanc. He was a first round pick, and it looks like the Habs have no room for him (or no desire to make room for him). He could probably play on a 3rd line producing 10-15 goals a season, with potential for more. But in general, I would love to see Kane in a Habs uniform.

I think this is the perfect time for a trade. My reasoning is that since the team is playing well the value of the Habs' players is a little higher. There is also less pressure to make a deal, so MB can be patient and listen to all the offers, since there is no fire under him to improve the team. Chemistry is important, but standing pat does not always translate to long term success. I think MB should be working the phones hard right now. I also want him to continue with his "don't trade away the future" mantra. So if he is looking at a trade it should be for a player that can become a part of our core. No need to trade for someone who will be gone by next summer.
- Comment on Budaj will get start for Habs against Capitals (2013-11-22 09:20:08)
It's funny how these labels seem to stick. Ovie suffered from the "oh well I guess he is not as good as Crosby" syndrome. Had an off year and all of a sudden he gets more criticized then he deserved. A little similar to Subban who for some reason is still considered a player that dives and practices the infamous slew foot. this perception is based on fans that clearly do not watch him day in, day out. I would venture that it is the same for Ovie... First impressions, got to make a good one or it can dog you for a long time.

He used Twitter to say the following: BrianWilde @BWildeCTV 27m He is as far as I know symptom free now. I am worried for the next one and I was speaking of what he suffered last year.

A bit of interesting information, I was listening to Brian Wilde (he covers the Habs for CTV) on TSN690 with Tony Marinaro, he mentioned that he thinks Rene Bourque should retire because his concussion issues are serious. I wonder how severe the symptoms are now, is Bourque playing more of a perimeter game because he does not want to go through another concussion? I know he would have to pass the NHL tests to come back to play on the ice, but does anyone really believe that the players are really symptom free when they come back? I also wonder how much information is shared with other teams when/if a trade is about to happen.

I agree that that fight was questionable, the only thing I could think off was that he wanted to test the shoulder as soon as possible.

TSN Radio had a segment where they were giving grades for the first 1/4 of the season to Habs players. The discussion degenerated into how can you have DD with a mark of 5 out of 10, but the idea was a good one. Here are my grades (I kept it to players that played 5 games or more): 10/10 = not a soul 9/10 = Price, Budaj (technically only played 4 games) 8/10 = PK, the EGG line, Markov 7/10 = Plekanec, Bournival, Diaz, Prust 6/10 = Bourque, Max Pac, Georges, Gio 5/10 = Cube, White, Tinordi, Murray, Beaulieu 4/10 = Holland, Leblanc, Blunden, Parros, Briere 3/10 = Desharnais, Moen What are your score cards?

If you get the chance grab a player's helmet and put it on, it makes for good TV.

I agree with not seeing him break through the top 4 and that leads me to wonder about this negotiation. At some point Tinordi, Beaulieu and/or Pateryn need to play for the Habs. Let's say Beaulieu is still 2 years away but one or both of the others should be up next year. So you already have Drewiski signed (he'll be a 7th D), Georges, PK, Markov (maybe) and Emelin. I just don't see the plan here, just don't see it.

RDS is reporting that negotiations with Diaz are about 3 million a year. I know that Habs management are building from the back end out, but it is really starting to be a lot of cap hit tied up on D next year (because I think they will end up signing PK and Markov). What do you guys think Diaz at 3MM/yr? http://www.rds.ca/hockey/canadiens/diaz-et-le-ch-n%C3%A9gocieraient-1.685479
