- Comment on Video: Eventful night ends in win for Koivu
Smart move from Garth Snow, if the intention is to trade him later for a draft choice. Obviously they don't believe they can make the playoffs this year, but Nabokov will be valuable to a playoff bound team at the trade deadline.
- Comment on Pursegate: It's not the heat, it's the stupidity
Theft is not a minor issue in the US and being drunk is not an excuse, the team usually assigns a chaparone or a couple of senior players the task of keeping rookies out of trouble, yes O'Byrne is to blame but so are his team mates for allowing it to get that far and the team for not having a curfew. - Comment on Pursegate: It's not the heat, it's the stupidity
Bill, this was the question. When asked whether he was concerned that nearly half of his team had been out at 3 a.m., Carbonneau replied: "They're adults. They can do what they want. They didn't have a curfew." I agree my opinions on Carbo have been forming for some time, I had hoped that he would do better in handling the press. - Comment on Pursegate: It's not the heat, it's the stupidity
Carboneau needs to read the book on 'How to diplomatically reply to press questions in the NHL for dummies'. How can he reply with 'They're adults. They can do what they want. They didn't have a curfew', did he not have time to prepare for a proper statement that showed some concern for the players, concern for the team and also accepting some responsibility for what happened, but I guess it takes a real leader to do that. I am disapointed because I believed that Carboneau would mature as a coach and gain respect from his players, but his replies to the press also gives us an insight as to how he handles and treats his players, basically with disrespect. - Comment on Game 55: Habs lose, Ottawa three points up
I do not understand Carboneau's decision to start the game with Smolinski, Begin and Kostopoulos against the Sundin line, the first shift gave the Leafs all the confidence they needed to win the game. I believe had he started with the Kovalev line it would have been a completely different game. I also did not see anyone try to screen the goalie tonight, Toskala saw every shot. Play Ryder, put Smolinski, Dandeneault and Brisebois in the press box. I know Koivu will bounce back and have a good playoff. - Comment on Prospect watch: NCAA talent doing just fine
I was referring to the last 3 draft years only: 2007 McDonagh #12, Pacioretti #22 2006 Fisher #20, Maxwell #49 2005 Price #5, Latendresse #45 2004 Chipchura #18, Yemelin #84 Sergei Kostitsyn 2005 #200 overall, Plekanec 2001 #71 was a diamond in the rough. Andrei Kostitsyn 2003 #10, Higgins 2002 #14. It is obvious that the Habs have prioritized on building a good defensive team by choosing players that will be able to play two way hockey, there will be exceptions and diamonds in the rough but I look at their first two choices of every draft to figure out what kind of team is being built. - Comment on Prospect watch: NCAA talent doing just fine
I believe Gainey's plan has been to rebuilt from the goalie out, so this year I would be very suprised if he does not draft the best available forwards.
