Michael Farber weighs in on new NHL TV deal on HI/O Show

What does new NHL TV deal mean?

Former Gazette sports columnist Michael Farber – who now works for TSN, Sports Illustrated and NBC – joins current Gazette columnist Dave Stubbs and sports editor Stu Cowan on this week’s HI/O Show to discuss the new 12-year, $5.2-billion TV deal reached between Rogers and the NHL and what it all means.

Also discussed is whether the new TV deal with TVA Sports will speed up the NHL putting a team in Quebec City, what happens to Don Cherry and Hockey Night in Canada now, the negative impact of the new deal on TSN and RDS, and the rising value of the Canadiens franchise.

Other topics of conversation include the Canadiens-Leafs rivalry and which player is better: Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin.

So tired of HNIC. Jim Hughson – ” the Habs are disgustingly healthy” pathetic. To even speak of Subban not being on team Canada is ridiculous. Healy, Stock,Cherry & McLean can all go away ASAP.

Who’s more useless? A senator in a suit or one wearing skates? Man, the Turds are bad.

Farber’s a great writer. Bettmann deserves some credit.

“May you live in interesting times.”

Michael Farber has the same opinions he’s always had..robotically predictable. Bettman “sees farther” than anyone else? lol…that’s how you become the establishment’s man, ladies and gents. Suck up.
Most people I know who love hockey could care less who puts on the games. It’s an oligarchical world in Canadian business and media is the prime example of that reality. The CBC became “Hockey Night In Tranna” and lost a lot of good faith as a result. Few would shed tears if they lost their rights completely. Now they get to be Rogers sock puppet for 4 years and then they’ll likely be ushered completely out of the theater through the stage door.
They treated the Habs like an afterthought, right down to assigning the D league announcers to the games.

Speculating on which player / team is up/down each week is really kinda boring. But this is a great broadcast: thank you Stu, Dave and Mike: I really enjoyed this.
