HI/O Show: What should the Canadiens do with Sergachev?

The Canadiens have nine games to decide whether they will keep rookie defenceman Mikhail Sergachev — the club’s top draft pick this year — on their roster or return him to the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires for more seasoning. On this week’s Hockey Inside/Out Show, host Adam Susser and our hockey insiders — Gazette columnist Stu Cowan, CBC Daybreak’s Andie Bennett and special HI/O contributor Mike Boone — discuss Sergachev as well as the team’s early season struggles on the power play, the best off-season acquisition and compare last season’s edition of the team with this year’s new look Habs.

A new season of Habs, hockey and humour, available every Thursday at 8 a.m., exclusively at www.hockeyinsideout.com

Check out this week’s HI/O Show:

  1. Brighella says:

I tried, once again, to watch the HIO show. I can’t This is such a step backwards it boggles the mind. Please change it back. This new version doesn’t seem to appeal to anyone.

  2. tank says:

I could hardly wait for the show to return, always enjoyed it, not over the moon with the cbc girl but she improved with time. It is now unwatchable. I have no idea where they found this fool and his scratchy voice but it is unlikely I will watch another show. He is insulting to the panel and the audience. Belongs in toronto not Montreal.

  3. Matt says:

Well I’m surprised to see the “host” is still there this week.
I used to watch that show every week and enjoy it.
Oh well, I guess I’ll check from time to time to see if they got rid of Susser.
When they do I’ll be happy to watch the show again.
    But until then…moving on.

  4. misstheoldshow says:

This is the first comment I have ever posted on any internet site ever. But, I wasted the time doing so as this used to be my favorite hockey show, I would watch it every week and would actually look forward to it.

    Now it is unwatchable.

It used to be a hockey show. Now it is a “comedy” show? Why? Adam Susser is not a comedian – despite what he calls himself. His jokes all insult his guests or his audience and he’s trying to make the show about himself and how “hilarious” he is…(I’ve been in the entertainment business for over 28 years and I have now idea how this guy lands any gigs as he has no charm, no jokes, no sense of timing, undermines his guests, and has that pathetic neediness of an “underappreciated” “artist”….I’ll stop there.)

I certainly hope the Gazette didn’t pay a consultant on how to “improve” the show, should’ve saved that money.

Also, kudos to Stu, Andi and Mike for trying their best to do the show despite the horrible host and, I assume, the equally horrible producer/director who’d coaching them to “be funny” – they really gave it the old college try and I applaud their efforts and professionalism. I assume Nilan (wisely) has left the show, which is sad (Thank the Gods for TSN 690 as they still cover actual hockey). Gee, he wouldn’t have made a good host…

Anyway, I doubt anyone will read this or care but thank you for the many excellent episodes of the old show, they were truly interesting and insightful. Thanks and GOODBYE!

  5. kayakian1 says:

I never got passed the introductions as I thought I had logged into a cartoon by mistake. Please tell me that the Hockey Inside/Out GM will be making a trade or sending the host back to the minors before the end of the season. I loved it last year but am having trouble holding down my lunch this year.

  6. Philly-Poo says:

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this, in regards to Susser on the show. I have to agree with many posts here; the show is not as good, it just feels gimmicky and Torontoesk.

I realize that sometimes it takes a bit for people to “gel”, for example, I usually always give a new TV series a few episodes before deciding if I’m going to go for the long haul. Actors and writers both need to get to know the characters, essentially. Nonetheless, the humor here seems forced and fabricated, there doesn’t seem to be the greatest of chemistry between Stu/Andie/Chris and Susser. They all seem to cringe or roll their eyes when he’s making his opening jokes. I never heard of this guy as a comedian, however, evidently that’s what he is.

Whereas I am not saying that the show should go back to what it was, I do not think this evolution is what was needed. Why not add a Francophone who has a decent wield of English? I would much rather listen to Francois Gagnon or Jose Theodore at this point.

Cut Susser now and save the show for the rest of the year. Please and thanks.

    Go Habs Go

  7. arbarca says:

After 3 tries at the current version of the HIO Show, I beg for mercy. Susser, whom I’m sure loves his mother, only detracts from the 15 minutes of hockey talk … and his voice…
Cowan was a great moderator and he enabled 4 opinions (3 panelists and himself) not the current 3.
I’ll give you “A” for effort, but please ….

  8. Mister Wrong says:

So many people are complaining about the new HIO show that it’s worth pointing out that everybody always complained about the old HIO show too. Habs fans: literally impossible to please.

  9. SmartDog says:

Is Boone asleep in this photo?

When you’re in a foxhole, your head is naturally in the sand.

  10. joeybarrie says:

Yeah, the guy is pretty annoying and useless. Andie hosting would be the best move. Todd, Nilan, (to be honest ANYONE else) in the 4th spot.

Wait is there a game tonight or something?

  11. WindsorHab-10 says:

    Adam Susser is ANNOYING.

  12. thesenator18 says:

Mike Boone coming up in 5 minutes on Bob Mcweon prime time sports…….will probably be pretty boring.

  13. LTCA says:

A little observation on the PP. HABS a midling team sitting 15th at 19.2%. And if my memory serves me correct there was another goal scored a second after the penalty had expired. Puts the PP around 22% in around top 12.

I realize teams will adjust for Weber…as in sacrificing their lives. However i feel the PP is no longer an issue.

Of course all this is fundamentally attributed to remaining healthy.

Heres to a fantastic season of feeling proud as a HAB fan.

  14. habsr4ever says:

Ducks are going to unload a dman.
Since we are first over all – now is the time to unload some over achievers. N8 for Fowler please. Heck throw in a third rounder as well to get this done.
Montoya to LAK for a first rounder. We aren’t winning a Cup without Carey Price any how are we?
Fucale to Boston for a second rounder. Pretty much time to cut bait on this once promising prospect.

    • 24 Cups says:

We don’t have the cap space to deal for Fowler.

Not sure why people keep bringing it up if it isn’t feasible.

      • D Mex says:

Depends upon which contract(s) go the other way (and when), no ?

        ALWAYS Habs –

        • DDO_Habs_Fan says:

Only possible contracts would be DD (they don’t want), Emelin (LD no point), Markov (LD no point) and Pleks (no centers so won’t go). Unless they overpay with prospects thus enabling them to add DD to the deal, I don’t see like 24 Cups how this happens.

          • D Mex says:

Timing (now vs closer to trade deadline) and ANA’s level of motivation are significant factors to keep in mind.
There are also non-hockey reasons to consider for not letting Desharnais go IMO – Pacioretty’s potential reaction being one of them. That’s one reason I’ve favoured moving them in a package for a while now.
            Just an opinion, tho.

            ALWAYS Habs –
            D Mex

          • BC (Because of the Cats) says:

I’m probably alone here, but I think we’d miss Desharnais. We’re thin at centre as it is, and he’s our most creative playmaker. After last night’s game, there were a lot of posts complaining about his ice-time because he had no points, no shots (I think), and no hits. I thought he had a very good game despite these zeros. Look at the seconds leading up to our first goal. He started that play just before he went off.

            “We gotta lotta dep.”

          • D Mex says:

He slid the puck to the right point along the wall. Any forward in that area of the ice would have done the same with Weber waiting on the other side, so the imagination on that play escapes me.

He is too easily ” bumped ” off the puck and / or off his skates and / or blocked out of pursuing the puck.
Easily replaced, and long overdue IMO.

            ALWAYS Habs –
            D Mex

            (Coaching 101 – what not to do : http://i.imgur.com/NoNJ3FV.gif)

          • BC (Because of the Cats) says:

Who do we replace him with?

            “We gotta lotta dep.”

      • cbhabsfan says:

True, the cap situation isn’t there right now, but that could always change in a hurry.

But for sure Anaheim has what we need and we have what they want and, equally important, could afford to take back.

It’s just a question on whether Bwergevin is willing to give up the picks/prospects/cheap young roster players required to make something happen.

    • Grabbed The Cup says:

Just out of curiosity are you a pipe man, or do you prefer Zigzags?

Nilan deserves a place on the coaching staff.

    • Habfan17 says:

There was a lot of talk about the Ducks on the Team1200 and they believe they will keep Fowler, and use some of their prospect depth to “convince a team, or teams to take Stoner and or Bieksa. They do not want to trade Fowler.

The only reason they going to trade anyone is for cap reasons. Therefore, they can’t take back any large contracts.

It was discussed that they are in a win now mode too, and trading Fowler would really hurt their chances.

  15. Habs62 says:

Let’s slow down on the top 5 gm award. Yes things look great but these are the very early days of season/trade. Many said he needed to have a great offseason last year and looks like he did. The Radulov signing was a home run no doubt. Weber looks great (but in 2-3 years will that trade tip the other way… not to mention term of the contract). But I will say for 2-3 years I like Weber vs Subban and maybe this clarifies our window and approach. But to be top 5 he has to bring us at least to cup final and use this window IMO

    • nbsjfan says:

Yes, exactly that. And need I remind the commentariat that les boys were 9-0 last year and we all know how that turned out. Talk to me in March and we can discuss GM of the year. Until then, lets try our best not to sound like leaf fans shall we?

  16. 100HABS says:

I hate when there’s anew page like this. It’s like a new thread but not. And you have to toggle between them…. why put a limit? Make the page infinitely long!!!!

  17. RightNyder says:

Travis Green (talking about why he sat Jordan Subban for a game) says being in the AHL isn’t all about winning, but developing players who can excel at the NHL level.
Sly certainly has the not winning part down.
