Former Gazette sports columnist Michael Farber, who now works for Sports Illustrated and TSN, is the guest for our special Happy Holidays episode of the HI/O Show.
Farber joins Gazette columnist Dave Stubbs and sports editor/host Stu Cowan to look back on some memorable holiday hockey classics from the past, including the 1975 New Year’s Eve game between the Canadiens and the Soviet Central Red Army team. Was it really the greatest hockey game ever played?
The HI/O panel also talks about the 30th anniversary of Ken Dryden’s classic book, The Game, and Stubbs has a show-and-tell piece of memorabilia from Dryden’s playing days.
There’s also a discussion about the six outdoor games on the NHL schedule this season – including one in Los Angeles – and Stubbs and Farber recall the bone-chilling experience of covering the outdoor Heritage Classic games.
“I’m the indoor hockey writer at Sports Illustrated after that experience,” Farber says.
