Well, that was no fun

Certainly no fun for Patrick V. Hickey, who had a worse night than the Canadiens.

The Gazette’s intrepid beat man parked his Honda Civic – 564,000 km and purring like a kitten – at the Wachovia Center.

Because the car has Quebec plates, Flyers’ fans slashed the tires – and stole the plate!

Two Canadian TV trucks were vandalized as well.

And Marc-Antoine Godin of La Presse Tweets: “2 PHI fans yelled at TV guy ‘go back home, you
f@#$#& French-Canadian!’ One had Briere jersey, the other a Gagné”

• Canadiens have tough hill to climb – Stubbs

“We just didn’t have it” – Gill

No credit for Gainey – Todd

• Stubbs on Michael Leighton

A new bully on Broad Street – Roy MacGregor

Flyers mojo carries over from Bruins series – Michael Farber

No signs of Philly letdown – Scott Burnside

• At least the Bulldogs won

And Hockey Night in Canada ran a nice Elliotte Friedman feature on Brian Gionta.

So what? Calculate Halak’s winning percentage – it is MUCH higher than that.

The Wachovia center is the worst place to go period. Fans of other teams won’t go there, I’ve met fans that were they for playoffs 2 years ago. They had to deal with people kicking their seats dumping Beer on them and security not giving a rats ass. During Playoffs stay away from Philly they are the worst fans in Hockey!

It all Started with Gomez taking that Penalty against Briere just like our Game 2 meltdown in Washington, Gomez took a stupid penalty and the wheels fell of the fucking bus. For whatever reason that has killed us twice and each time we lost by 6 goals. We’ll bounce back!

Based on the two back to back games during the regular season where we got humiliated I think it will happen again. Philly was the worst team we could face at this point. At the same time, maybe this is a good thing. The people upstairs can see that size does matter and we needed someone to replace BGL for teams like Philly and others in the West. For this team to improve just a little more you need at least two badasses in there because this team doesn’t intimidate anyone. At the same time, that is the reason why it is ridiculous to try and beat this team at their own game hitting and taking penalties. Crashing the net is another story though. That is a must.

We live in the Eastern suburbs of Philadelphia so I’m not super familiar with the Aston area but it looks like it is fairly close to I 95 which shouldn’t be too bad of a route to get into the city on the weekends.  Traffic isn’t awful unless there’s an accident or construction I don’t know about.

As far as places to eat with kids you could always try the standard tourist trip to Pat’s Steaks or Geno’s in South Philadelphia (9th and Passyunk) or Tony Luke’s (39th E. Oregon Ave) for cheesesteaks. “Water ice / Italian ice” and a soft pretzel are a good bet as well.  If you’ve got a GPS on you, try a search for “Rita’s” for the water ice.

When you take it statisticaly and astronomically you get that score and beside it, I can feel it in all my bones. Do we need MAB ?

    No

We need someone in the dressing room to smack big tits and Poulio in the head and tell them to play like their balls are on fire and threaten to cut them off if they don’t do it. Thats leadership

Ooh Aah Habs on the war path

  12. HardHabits says:

Todd’s points are legitimate. What a bunch of whiners. Oooooh. Bad Jack Todd has some criticism for Bob Gainey. How dare you? You awful man!!! Gimme a break. He’s only repeating what he read here. I guess it just pisses you off to see those arguments validated in his article.

This playoff run has been great, so far, but it appears the Habs have hit a brick wall. Whatever happens this playoffs a lot will ride on what steps the Habs do to keep the unsigned players they have and what happens with any young and upcoming prospects (if there are any).

One thing for sure, the Caps, Pens and Hawks will be contenders while the Habs’ll be question marks.

I still think the way to build a team is via the draft and to do that a team needs to finish 20th-30th for a few years. I hope I am wrong and that the Habs get stronger in the upcoming years. Given the salary cap and the Habs poor positioning come draft day I am highly skepticle that that will occur.

Hack and epic failure – Jack Todd!

Supposedly retired to write a great novel but no such luck he just keeps on popping up in the Gazette.

Must be bitter that Gainey made money on the sale of the Canadiens!

Todd is as pink as they come and cannot seperate sports from his own politics!

The locals here in Sakhalin have figured out what works and what doesn’t but not Todd he just clings to the old doctrines.

    Waste of oxygen!

  17. HardHabits says:

Some would think that BG had a crystal ball. He himself admits his moves were a crap shoot.

Many of us have been saying the same things Todd said. Gainey did good with the new leadership core. He astutely did not resign Koivu. He did however want both Komsarek and Kovalev back. He also dropped the ball big time with Price. Price should’ve been handled the same way Subban was this year.

If the Habs win two games this series I’ll be surprised. However if they win 2 they should be able to win 4. We’ll know by game 4 whether or not it’ll time to take out the brooms. Last game was a demolishing of the system.

  18. pmaraw says:

no…..  I want to know why he was in the dressing room.  I mean if it was simply to rest him, than why not let him sit on the bench and cheer on his teammates?  why was he in the dressing room?

  25. Laramy87 says:

MAB has one power play goal this playoffs, do we still need him in the lineup. His defence play was poor and his giveaways were brutual. I would MUCH rahter have OB in there.

Game two will be different, there is no way Habs will come out like this in game two. It feels like the extneded break they had caught up with them, and the emotion high of the flyers after thier game 7 win was used to thier advantage. They will come crashing down when habs win, and that will be pretty much it for the Flyers.

On a side note I HATE HATE HATE HATE flyer fans

    I will say this, however.

Maybe Stubbs or Boone could suggest it to the Habs if they agree that it’s a good idea.

Thank you for the less-than-intelligent comment, MontrealAtheist!

You don’t blame a GM for a shitty outing by a team. You blame him for assembling a team that can’t compete/make the playoffs. An eastern-conference finalist is something only 4 GM’s in the league achieved this year. And the Habs had to beat two of the league’s best teams, one of those without their best player.

not gonna say anything bad about mab, but I think we could use OB a lot more than mab in this series…

  31. salshabs says:

WOW!! Does Todd ever tee off on Gainey…he’s right though.  Give credit where it’s due, to JM and the rest of the coaching staff, for recognizing who the real number one goalie is, and running with him.  Unfortunately, Price IS Gainey’s greatest blunder, and, the destruction  of a diamond chip prospect lies 100% with him.  Crosby, Stamkos, were monitored closely in their jump to the NHL right from Junior. Price, an immature kid, was not, and the results are obvious.  Even Carbo wanted to send him to Hamilton for seasoning, and, it wound up costing him his position.  Price has had several opportunities, in these playoffs to step up, and he’s dropped the ball, time to move him, he’s permanently damaged goods. Thanks Bob.

No credit for Gainey – Thank you for that great article, Todd !!!

I hate to bring this up, but some of us here have been saying this all along … And besides, if you are going to credit Gainey with the results of the current playoffs, then at least you should be consistent and credit Gainey with this 0-6 massacre as well. Thank you, Mr. Gainey. What a genius!

  35. jimmy shaker says:

Started off slow just like in Pittsburgh.  If, we lose the next game than we can start getting concerned.  But, I like our chances tomorrow night.  We’ve always bounced back and I think tomorrow will be no different.  Jaro always comes back huge after getting pulled, and the compete/intensity level will be there as well.  We just have to be outshot and we’ll be fine.  JM will get O’byrne back in there, and MAB will be put back on the 4th line, with Darche or Pouliot drawing out!

One game…..suck it up, forget about it and move on!

It ruins the fun of being a hockey fan. The best part about being a fan, aside from watching your team win, is teasing other teams fans. But it should be in kind spirit. I went to Boston for a Habs game few years ago and their fans were great. They would chirp us, we’d chirp them back, but it was all in good fun. And I bet in Philly there are alot of great fans like that too, but it only takes a couple of idiots to make the whole bunch of them look stupid. It’s the same kind of idiots who are rioting in Montreal.

  44. coachdoug says:

I was suprised at the lack of goonery…but that is not Peter Laviolettes brand of hockey…He loves a fast skating hard working team…got to watch many a Canes practice while he was here and he skates their @sses of…

Laviolette loves the two man forecheck…Carolina used it as a weapon…no time and no space…

As far as goonery Carcillo is the only exception since he is mentally 5 years old…my apologies to the five year olds

  49. MikeMcLaren says:
