We want to hear from you

Some of you might have noticed the bright red ad promoting a survery on the right side of our page, but for those of you who haven’t, here’s your chance to help us improve HIO.

Go to the survey and tell us what you think.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Update: Sorry for the issue with the survey. It has been fixed. You are welcomed to participate. Thanks

  1. Nina76 says:

I have no problems with this site

  2. Bill J says:

    LMAO – my answer.

“YES, and none of your business!”

Weird question, I think it should read (based on the follow up question)

“Do you visit other Hockey/Habs Web sites ?”

Would likely have gotten better “results”

  3. ZepFan2 says:

    Oh the memories.

At least this trum has some actual trum going on.

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  4. fbkj says:

i agree the mobile site is gimped

  5. SmartDog says:

If you leave out all the porn sites, that’ll save some time.  :)

Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!

  6. Timo says:

I liked the question “what other sites you visit… name”. Do they mean all other other sites? 😉

  7. Timo says:

Why don’t they just create a facebook page then?

  8. marshx says:

    Done and Done.

  9. sholi2000.com says:

    My favorite question

What would you do to improve?

Ignore feature.  There has to be a way to not even see a member’s name.
That would get rid of a great number of problem members.

    2.  Thumbs up/down feature per post.

More attractive, this site is the worst/boring to look at.  Yet the
members are the best on the planet and the replies are the most
informative of any site I visit.

    4.  Don’t care much about stat features.  NHL.com can’t be beat.

    They Call Me Shane

  10. cunningdave says:

Please just fix the site so that it doesn’t bounce iPads to the mobile site.  It’s a pain in the usability derriere.

  11. Ian Cobb says:

Fan Summit Updates  Check The Summit Page

The Gainey Foundation Raffle and Donations.

  12. SmartDog says:

Your survey misses a couple of questions:

    1. I want to spend the next half hour filling out a survey.  YES    NO

    2. I have nothing better to do with my time.  YES   NO

    3. Are you on a laptop so you have to scroll to reach some of the arrows?  YES   NO

… I tried guys, but gave up.

Your survey is going to skew for people who have lots of time, and who like filling out surveys.  Which means you’re missing most of us.

The proper way to do this is either to split your survey into pieces and then aggregate the result, or use a shorter survey and then send people a follow up longer survey later with some potential reward or just a lot of thanks.  Studies show that the ‘foot in the door technique’ is powerful when it comes to surveys.  A study I read showed that people are up to 12  times more likely to agree to a bigger commitment having made a smaller one.

So let me know when youv’e posted that smaller suvey and I’ll be happy to fill it out.

Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!

  13. ZepFan2 says:

    Damn, there goes the inheritance!

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  14. fbkj says:

yes in light of my curiosity ive decided to not try one…

  15. adam76 says:

The stats show  – young females  are more likely to take online surveys as compared to men.

  16. ZepFan2 says:

    Here, something to chew on…

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  17. fbkj says:

it was my ringtone for a while

  18. ZepFan2 says:

    Catchy tune.

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  19. Everlasting1 says:

Results of compiled surveys are often sold as information to advertisers, corporations. Not saying that’s the case here though.

    Don’t pollute the water.

  20. G-Man says:

    The Boone Survey.

Let’s face it, this is the site for all Habs all the time. Can things be better? Sure, people who hate my comments should have the option of “tuning me out” just as I do to theirs. Otherwise, not much to improve upon, except to say, “More, please.”

  21. Danno says:

Thanks Kevin. Still wondering about that result though. Could it be because there are many who are using their wive’s, girlfriends or mother’s computer?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  22. fbkj says:

    explain other ways mr. orwell

  23. SLONCOLD says:

no no lol surveys like this take some time  and money to be put togther. doubtful it’s to shut up a few posters lol

  24. ZepFan2 says:

    Well, we’re all bloggers now.

Wait, doesn’t Boone despise wannabe bloggers…oh noes!

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  25. ZepFan2 says:

Certainly seems slanted towards Boone, eh.

Someone has to pay for Boone’s live blog.

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  26. 123456 says:

agree – after reading the next few questions i think they are implying the “bloggers” are more the professional writers… (as in not you and i)

  27. Kevin Mio says:

The results Boone posted the other day showing 51% women is not this survey, but the results of data collected in other ways showing that 51% of our readers are female.

The current survey is for other purposes.

  28. 123456 says:

OMG anyone else think that entire survey was put together to try to justify the earlier STAT that 51% of HIO readers are female????? ha ha ha

  29. ZepFan2 says:

J, they don’t care about your porn sites. lol

“Analyst: And I will say things you already know, five seconds after you yell them at your television.”

  30. Bob Dobbs says:

In the survey it asked if I would be blogging on Habs Inside/Out in the the next year. What is blogging??? I assumed it was commenting (like what I’m doing right now) so I answered accordingly, but it wasn’t clear..

  31. jennifer1984 says:

i got around the whole ontario thing by selecting “prefer not to answer”

  32. Mr.Hazard says:

  33. Danno says:

Maybe women have more patience to complete long, involved surveys and thus the 51 per cent result.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  34. 123456 says:

Honeslty not sure why I am going to post this link – I guess because he touched so many peoples lives and had a positive impact on thousands. Also Gionta is mentioned in the article.

I had the pleasure to skate with him once, was proud of myself for shutting him down on “most” occasions. It was just a pick-up game and he jumped onto the ice, he thanked us for letting him join us when it was the rest of the guys who wanted to thank him.

Amerks Hall of Famer Craig Charron dies at 42.

  35. fbkj says:

    Im sensing shennanigans as well

    damn you boone…

  36. dh says:

Keep getting dumped when I get to the question about why I was here today.  Seems to be timing out or something.  Is it because I didn’t choose the “Boone’s email …” answer?

  37. Everlasting1 says:

Once surveyed, the end result is the same. You’re all female. hehe

“We don’t see things as they are, but as we are.” – Anais Nin

    Don’t pollute the water.

  38. punkster says:

I’m in Montreal, got almost through it when this appeared:

    Error processing request
    The requested project is closed:

    Please try the following:
    • Activate the project using the iWebMan Remote Console software.
  39. Danno says:

Is this a mandatory survey? And do you have a short-form and a long-form? Can I go to jail for not answering?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  40. fbkj says:

yes sir and i found the “browse to submit pic prompt” to be rather gauche!

  41. fbkj says:

“Do you visit any other Web sites?

    Yes, (enter name)”

  42. otter649 says:

Survey does not want people from Ontario……

  43. Mike Boone says:

What, you didn’t get as far as “Would your wife mind dating Mike Boone?”

  44. matmacat says:

I started… when I noticed I was only at 23% I got discouraged and close the survey.

  45. Danno says:

Do you promise to answer as honestly as possible?

    Are you a liar?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  46. Lucius says:

Same deal, Nova Scotia is a no-no. I know the Gazette is a local paper, but nothing’s local online.

Hopefully just a bug born from everyone you had testing it living in Quebec.

  47. shiram says:

That thing is long, and somewhat annoying.

List the websites i visit? too much to list… I really despise those survey, but i i like this place so i completed it.

  48. fbkj says:

oh and also these two questions, in succesion, annoyed me

“How did you get to habsinsideout.com?” followed by “How did you first find out about habsinsideout.com?”

    couldnt have consolidated here?

  49. arcosenate says:

Actually you don’t want to hear from me!

    So I did my own:

Do you promise to answer as honestly as possible?

When was the last time you did a somersault?

How many rolls did you accomplish?

    Where did you end up?

How close was the nearest McDonald’s to the spot you ended up?

Would you like some more sausages?

  50. fbkj says:

i tried doing it but i got bored to tears from it

how about doing a survey, about the survey :)

  51. bwoar says:

They only want to hear from you if you fit the profile they are looking for.

  52. B says:

Perhaps they should specify who they are interested in hearing from rather than wasting a bunch of peoples time and bandwidth.

  53. Exit716 says:

I’ve tried to do it twice. However, when I put in the fact I live in Ontario, I get booted out.

  54. B says:

Unfortunately, we have reached the number of participants your profile.

  55. J.T. says:

Only bother with this if you live in Montreal.  Otherwise, it’s a frustrating waste of time that buggers up your login.

  56. darkhorse says:

Yep, I’ve had the same problems.  After I put in my location it tells me they’ve reached the number for my profile…not sure what this means.  I just want to contribute!!  Love this site, by the way.

  57. Chuck says:

If you really want to take the survey, tell it that you’re from Montreal.

Centre Hice: One fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens

  58. TommyB says:

“We want to hear from you”…..ummm, apparently you don’t.

  59. Danno says:

I don’t live there, but I left my heart in Montreal.

Can I take the survey now?

Unfortunately, we have reached the number of participants your profile.

This rivals the old classic: All your base are belong to us

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  60. slamtherimtim says:

i said the ignore button also , and after stu’s article on another team again, does HIO pay stu to write on other teams, i should hope he is doing this for exposer not a check  , there were a bunch of questions for the other sites listed at the side  , mabe there should be a link for stu there

  61. SeriousFan09 says:

    From the KHL:

Karri Ramo seems intent to make up for that Toskala-level goal two weeks ago, he just pitched his first SO of the season for Avangard Omsk with 22 saves for a 2-0 win, he’s improved his GAA to 2.11 and save % is now .904, he is 6-3-2 on the season.

Alexei Emelin continues to help pace Ak Bars Kazan with another assist today in a 3-1 win, he has 3G, 5A in 14GP.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  62. WarHero says:

Thank you sir! Good to get some KHL news :)

Never judge another man’s decision poor until you actually have proof of it failing!

  63. Storm Man says:

    http://en.khl.ru\ that should work.

  64. ManApart says:

I don’t think I’m in the majority, but I would like links to interesting stories on other teams or junior, AHL. Not little mundane articles, but news worthy items. Higher Nightmare49 (think that’s his name) to scan the web for them. He knows how to pick the interesting news from the ordinary. If he had a feature everyday of links, I, and I’m sure others, would really enjoy it. Some times the same old Habs news gets boring ie. Who should we put with Gio and Gomez. Going on for more than a year, Lapierre, D’Ags, Lats, Patches, Eller, Moen, Pyatt, Metro, Cammy, Sk74, Pouliot. I think there are alot more interesting hockey topics than that hopeless question. I think it would do a lot of posters some good to broaden their view of the game and it’s players. Some tend to get too caught up in the “Habs bubble” and lose perspective. Just my opinion.

  65. fbkj says:

I for one would LOVE a notification system that tells you that someone responded to you…

ignore and +/- are long overdue

  66. ManApart says:

I agree with the notification and ignore option, but think the +/- is juvenile. All it does is perpetuate division and doesn’t encourage differing opinions, which is what this site should be about.

  67. Everlasting1 says:

“We don’t see things as they are, but as we are.” – Anais Nin

    Don’t pollute the water.

  68. samTHEman says:

Yup that would be a sweet addition. Would like to see polls on the front page aswell, being able to see which users voted what, and open for discussion

  69. topher5468 says:

For a Habs Fan living in New York (Long Island), HIO is efin awesome. I would be lost without it. Thanks for letting me take the survey. My only issue is the sometimes slow server. Other than that, hanging with other habs fans is great

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  70. eurekabru says:

My suggestion: Make the survey shorter next time.

  71. fbkj says:

i know what your saying, totally, its just me personally as a reader and someone who posts, isnt going to go ignore crazy (theres really only about 3 posters that id tune completely out) but i do giggle when someone says something stupid and gets voted down into oblivion… i like what engadget.com has done

  72. fbkj says:

really what about my post merited a minus 1 if you dont mind me asking

    i await your detailed feedback

  73. Everlasting1 says:

It’s beyond childish, a +/- wouldn’t explain much of anything. It becomes a popularity contest for the biggest douches.

“We don’t see things as they are, but as we are.” – Anais Nin

    Don’t pollute the water.

  74. fbkj says:

although i do see it being used in the way you described, it also adds a layer of accountability for what gets posted

  75. Everlasting1 says:

It propagates bias as well, knowing who is who..all too familiar on this site. It wouldn’t be accountability as much as about favouritism.

“We don’t see things as they are, but as we are.” – Anais Nin

    Don’t pollute the water.

  76. fbkj says:

well i for one couldnt care less how people voted on the things i say so i guess you do raise a point how it can make those with insecurities feel abit butthurt

  77. 123456 says:

i added that as a comment in the survey – a simple “like” count by person can be effective – eventually giving credence to those who at least think through their posts – but i’ve seen it abused as well

  78. topher5468 says:

    sorry, double post

  79. mudar says:

Wow, that was a very long survey… and I didn’t get to say this: the site should not redirect to mobile homepage when accessed on a mobile device. A simple layout change of the same URL.

I access HIO through the rss free, sometimes using my smartphone. I cannot follow links to this website because I lose the page being redirected to HOME. Instead of trying to find the page I already had, I just switch to sth else, hoping this gets fixed soon!

Also, this one of the very few websites with a worthy comments section: great community

  80. TOEmastro says:

I couldn’t get this written in the survey, but It would be really cool to get a link to rival game blogs (or forums) for the upcoming game so we can snoop around the other side’s comments.

  81. fbkj says:

In the survey i was pleased that you asked about a mobile app, which indicates you guys are actually toying with the idea…THIS i like…

  82. Puck Bard says:

Ya, just a few questions… someone needs to teach you fellers about surveys and statistics.

  83. Wops says:

    – Video capsules

    – Phone app

    – Keep it going, this site is sick.

This is what comes out of the survey.

  84. ShangaDoo says:

I think H I/O could use a little female perspective on hockey. Someone with smarts though and every once in a while, us girls can talk about hot hockey players because God knows there’s many :)

So, Boone you know any from your vast catalouge of loose women? I mean, they don’t fall just for your good looks…surely they must appreciate hockey.

    Fellas, what do you think?

    Girls Corner: Yay or Nay?

  85. subdoxastic says:

I’m thinking there’s gonna be few pissy comments in greek on this site pretty soon.

  86. Keith says:

Took the survey, quite long btw, but it seems like the fine folks at HIO really value our opinions and input. Looking forward to what changes/improvements are in store. It sounds like Mr. Boone is going to be in a more prominent role with the new changes perhaps?

  87. Kristopher7 says:

Done the survey. Anything to help make this site even better than it already is!
