So ONE of the refs stands BEHIND the net and BEHIND the goalie and someone in front of the goalie shoots the puck at this goalie and puck hits the goalie and is clealy free in FRONT of the goalie BUT that ref BEHIND the net and BEHIND the goalie who has absolutely no view of whatever is happening IN FRONT of the goalie AND despite the fact that the OTHER ref is located somewhere on the other side of the goalie’s FACE – this BETTMAN ref has the power to blow the play dead claiming he can’t see the puck (SURPRISE! SURPRISE) because he himself wants to control the momentum of the game.

If you saw Kerry Fraser’s take on it, he says that the ref has the responsibility to try to find the puck and not just say “I can’t see it” and blow the whistle. He was definite in that it was a bad call with the ref not making any effort from where he was in the corner.
He also agreed with the call on Lucic “definitely a major and game misconduct for that hit”.

Once one of the refs loses site of the puck he HAS to blow the whistle. That has ALWAYS been the rule, even back in the days of Sam Pollock and Scotty Bowman.
If I am the ref who blew the early whistle last night am I supposed to “assume” that maybe the puck skittled out the other side of Thomas? And what if the puck is under the goalie and BOTH refs lose site of the puck? How long should they wait? Until Lucic and Marchand crash into Price?????

Actually, according to long time ref Kerry Fraser, that is not true. The ref has a duty to try to find the puck, not just immediately blow the whistle as soon as it’s out of his sight. With 2 refs, and one ref watching from the other side, the ref behind the net doesn’t need to make the call that fast.
All that being said, I don’t think it’s part of any conspiracy, just a blown call.
Third period, especially, we didn’t play together in our own end. Everyone was playing their own game, running around trying to cover the puck. The problem with that is when we finally get posession, everyone’s out of position and it’s really difficult to break out, especially when Boston played really well below the goal line. So we end up flipping the puck, dumping it, or trying to skate it out from deep in our own end resulting in a turnover. The only real good news was that it was a lot harder for Boston to get a change as their bench was furthest from our defensive end (obviously)…I think they tended to stay out a bit longer due to the amount of possession time they had.
Bottom line, it’s the playoffs and it’s only about figuring out a way to win that one game and play another. But the third period reminded me of much of last season’s playoffs where we’d play for lengthy periods in our defensive end, break out finally and score…which eventually caught up to us.
It’s not a beauty contest or “correct hockey” but whatever it takes to win tonight and move on. Whatever it takes.
I think we deserved to win because we did what we had to do (i.e. score on the 5-on-3s) and they sort of self-destructed with their idiotic penalties. And Price was great.
I don’t know if we can count on all that in Game 7. We often moan about not getting the calls but this time we got most calls in our favor (except the Gionta goal but still the calls came out well in our favor). I don’t think we can count on so much luck next time. We’ll need to play better but we have played better in previous games and I think we can do so again. Main thing is we’re not too banged up–wonder how Spacek will hold up, ditto Gionta (gotta be tired). Can Wiz play? (Guess not; only 24 hrs more rest.) How’s Eller? etc etc.
A team that scores only when the other team is down 2 men is not the deserving winner. I dont care what anyone says this wasnt how hockey was meant to be played.

I was not impressed at all with Montreal’s 5 on 5 play, this team doesn’t seem to want to mount offensive pressure in that situation. In game 7, not much in the way of penalties are going to be called and that could pose a huge problem. I hope I’m wrong.
The defensive shell game is a good match vs. other defensive shell coaching. Two teams are leaning on their goaltenders in this series.
It’s a poor strategy vs. a team with serious, balanced firepower IMO. Sure, your goalie may write a layoff legend and anything can happen. But more often than not the hang-back mentality eventually manifests in the players’ concentration and effort levels, as if by black magic.
Well, we are going to keep three men back so as to avoid giving up the odd man rush….they are going to send everyone deep…the problem we had was we didn’t play positional hockey in our own end and you can see three and four people covering one or two. No one covering the points. We also chased the puck a lot instead of covering…which is a problem when you are looking for someone to pass to when trying to get out of your own end.
How I wish this was game 7… I don’t know if I can handle another MTL-BOS game… But I’m very proud of these guys; they held their own despite of being depleted and banged up.

You can look at it as they just beat the Stanley Cup Champs who have put them out the last 2 years in a row, or you can look it it as the President’s Cup winner just needed OT in game 7 to defeat an 8th place team who sneaked into the playoffs because Dallas lost to the lowly Minnesota Wild the last game of the regular season.

If Zetterberg is out for longer than expected, I dont think that SJ will lose. This may be there year, no pressure on being the top team, Joe T finally scores a big goal. I was shocked on how close LA played them, but then again the same can be said about habs.

While I agree with you, I am not sold on their goaltending and Price can steal a series. To be honest, any goalie after Thomas may be good for us, we could have buried a lot of chances if he didnt come up big for them.

Yes but Steve, Claude Lemieux scored 10 playoff goals as a rookie, Burrows doesn’t even have 10 playoff goals after tonight. He was arguably the best agitator of a generation because of his ability to elevate in the playoffs and has a Conn Smythe on his shelf. This is about the first time Burrows has ever come through in the playoffs for VAN. He ain’t no Claude Lemieux. Habs need the roleplayers to get things done, but Burrows is not in my Top 10 for guys I think would fit into roles for MTL.

I too thought Mara played great considering he had been a healthy scratch for quite some time. He brought a much needed physical aspect and made some smart plays to get the puck out of the zone.
Everyone is talking about how boston’s top line arent playing well but i really dont think that they are that bad. they are just being outmatched. our top line is amazing pleks ak and cammy rarely have a bad shift and they continue to get chance after chance. its crazy how well they are actually playing. ive noticed when boston’s top line get to face the Eller line you notice them a lot more. i dont think any one of boston’s lines could handle our top line. anyways it was good game by the habs , they had a lot of pressure and the handled it well, i think they will be a little more relaxed playing in boston! all we need is the first goal. i expect a win! its just how the story is told.
as for lucic, i think its safe to say in the eyes of ‘the league’ he served his time and wont need a suspension. it was only a blindside hit on a habs player by boston, he probably already served too much time as it is /sacasm
