The Canadiens dressing room at their training facility was jam-packed with media Monday morning.
Wearing a variety of tee-shirts, jeans, hoodies and more hats than you’d see at an Easter Parade, the players trooped in for one final barrage of questions before they start their premature vacation.
“It was a roller-coaster season, Carey Price said. “Standing here today isn’t much fun.”
Price will be staying in Montreal for more rehab on his concussion and neck injury. He said he hopes to sign a new long-term contract because he likes the city, likes the organization and wants to stay here.
“I like playing here,” Price said. “I want to play here as long as I can.”
P.K. Subban will be joining Team Canada for the world championships. He said much the same as Price re contract negotiations.
To a man, the Canadiens maintained the team was not as bad as its last-place finish suggests.
But there was also a consensus that changes are coming – on and off the ice.

Subban 22 years old..has played 160 games in the nhl 21 goals and 55 assists…plus 2 ..playing mostly vs top lines…this is the type of player you build around…contending teams need d who can skate the puck out of their zone..right now the habs are pretty weak in d who can skate and participate in offense.
Markov’s comments (or “no comment”) about PK’s progression this season = gutless
Ive always liked Markov and have always considered him a leader on the team..
But WHEN YOU HAVE MISSED TWO YEARS WITH A KNEE MADE OUT OF PAPER AND PK SUBBAN HAS CARRIED THE OFFENSIVE LOAD ON THE D while u were in florida having doctors trying to figure out a way to rebuild that.. Thing… That once was a knee…
Listen Markov… PK IS BETTER THAN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t see the interview with Markov, the clip attached to this article doesn’t contain any questions to Markov about Subban.
Markov is a man of few words. When he said “No comment” when asked about PK he was probably half joking and half not feeling like answering anymore questions.
The ridiculous “French” media was trying to stir up one more firestorm or controversy before the team broke for summer.
That’s right.
You didn’t see the clip but it’s all the Frogs’ fault.
Idiot.
–
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Nobody used the term “frogs”. It was the French media that asked the stupid question in the first place. Hence the French media stirring the pot.
Btw, Hobie is no “idiot”.

Markov saying “no comment” when asked about P.K Subban’s progression…
P.K has carries the D this year…
He didnt ask for it but Markovs knee is made out of paper do PK had to take over
Even when Markov (finally) came back and he was total GARBAGE.. I figured.. Hes a winner and a leader and im happy to see him back… He will be a good mentor to PK and Emelin
Ive always liked Markov… But his
Comments (or lack there of..) regarding PK Subban prove that hes an overpaid baby with a VERY FRAGILE
KNEE
Markov is jealous of PK… Sorry Andrei but u cant deny the fact that Subban is better than you!
I think youre right. It was a peculiar response, kinda like saying -if you cant say something nice, then dont say anything at all…But the fact that the question was asked was peculiar also. I mean why not ask about the way Pac bounced back from his injury.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
When the new GM walks through the door and sits down to look over the roster and figures out his game plan I can assure everyone that there is a 0% chance he even contemplates trading Subban.
People who suggest a trade involving PK Subban are the same people who complain of letting go of our young players, not developing properly, yada yada yada. PK IS OUR STAR, OUR FUTURE!
i saw a post where someone said they’d trade subban, plekanec a 1st and 2nd round draft pick and beaulieau or tinordi
well with that package, i’d hope u can get quite a return, but all they wanted was ovechkin…. i mean really?
the worst part was the 1st responce who said they’d give em more than that for ovechkin…
now imho, thats worse than anything milbury has ever done.
So PK is the latest HIO Pariah.
Wtf went down?

I hear that the Canadiens can either choose first, third, or forth. So why is it not possible that we choose second?
————————
“Can we lose the parade float?…..Thank you!”
Cause if you win the draft you can only move up 5 spots. If Columbus wins, we pick third. Ditto if Edmonton wins. If we win we get first. If 4th or 5th last place wins, they get first and we get bumped to 4th pick. If any other team wins the draft (all non playoff teams are elligable but some have like 0.5% odds) then they can only move up 5 spots and are not aloud to get first overall. No matter what scenario we can’t end up in second.
You can only move up four spots, not five.

Putting this out there for comment and note that I couldn’t care less about what may or may not be brewing inside the dressing room as the boys head out for early summer break : OK, so, under the heading of ” Organizational needs vs Current inventory ” :
- Habs immediate needs are up front.
Relatively speaking, we are well stocked in terms of D-prospects.
- Subban is a rising star, great potential, high value yadda yadda, and
- One option for draft day is moving down for the purpose, among other things, of positioning for the 2013 draft when, reportedly, there will be a greater number of quality forwards to select from.
Proposal :
- Send Subban to FLA for Huberdeau, the home grown can’t-miss forward prospect.
This would address our immediate need while opening up a roster spot on the back end while Markov is still here. It would also quell the mobs.
- Next, trade the 2012 lottery pick for a 2012 lower 1st round pick (grab another good D-prospect to replenish the system) PLUS a 1st rounder in 2013, at which time we grab another forward to come in and play alongside Cole, MaxPac, Huberdeau and others …
ALWAYS Habs -

We know what we have with Subban. He is a developing asset. Huberdeau is a maybe, who knows?

Well, I do have it on good authority that Galchenyuk does like to wear an Ushanka from time to time when it drops blow 10C. Also, he refers to Nail Yakupov as Yuckapov, when Nail takes the last roll of friction tape.
All and all, I think he’d fit right in.

Unbelievable Markov. Your a vet, haven’t helped the team in 2 years and your getting on PK one of the few players that actually gets the fans excited. Price likes PK. Build the team around Price and PK and anyone that will actually watch their back. The rest can go to h#ll.
At the end of the day no matter what was said or not said, there are players on all teams that don’t get along with other players on the same team.
It is not a popularity contest. PK is there to do a job so is Markov, they are getting paid good money to do just that. Shut up and play the game. Years ago, players never used to ever say anything bad or diss another player or teammate in any way shape or form. This, in my opinion all started after the league allowed public knowledge of all players salaries.
Before that ever happened all players got along. Now the player sitting next to each other are jealous of what the other is making and it also shows in their play on the ice. Maybe Markov doesn’t like the idea that PK will be making almost as much as he is in short time and will be making a lot more then him over the course of his career.
Either way, if your a professional hockey player worry about your own play and not someone else’s because that’s all you can control.
If you want to win a championship you have to do it as a team. Do anyone think that the Habs of the 70′s or the Oilers and Isles of the 80′s all got along with each other ? I doubt it.
That is not the way to build a team. Players must stick up for each other and have each others back. To often this year, the Habs left teammates on their own. Enough is enough.
I see there was a kind of apologists rendition of the Kaberle debate, how it is all about the detractors and the defenders and those in between… the reluctant acceptors.
The underlying theme of the last thread’s discourse moderated by the illustrious and well written Errant Canadien is that Kaberle was brought in to support the PP, or that is how PG justified it.
The problem is this. Kaberle is not what the PP needed. Markov is not going to improve it either. The only thing that happened when Markov came back is what happened the year after the Habs let Streit go. Lots of crisp passing, lots of chances, no goals. Fenwick and Corsi up the yin-yang but no points. Just like now.
Last season somebody posted a list of potential defence men available when Markov was out and I immediately zeroed in on Wisniewski. I remembered how he single handedly burnt the Habs when they played the Isles. I saw that he was an impending UFA. I was ecstatic when the Habs acquired him.
Little did I know the whole story. He was really what the Habs needed. The kind of player they still need and are not getting, at least not yet, with Subban, Weber or Diaz. A crafty puck moving defence man with a cannon. Souray. Streit. Schneider. Bergeron. Wisniewski.
Not effin’ Kaberle.
I think the closest player on the Habs blue line who could fill that role could be Emelin. Maybe. If that happens then watch his stock rise.
At any rate… with Markov-Emelin-Gorges-Subban-Kaberle the Habs are in need of one big, mean, stay at home pugilist who can fire cannonballs from the blue-line. I can’t see Diaz or Weber fitting in. Any skills the bring are trumped by Subban-Markov and Kaberle. Neither of them is a stay at home defensive specialist either. Although of Diaz, Weber and Kaberle, my preference is for Diaz.
And I could give an ass’ rat about what he said, she said in the locker room with a 1000 microphones pressed to face hoping to crack open a canned response for something to mountain out of a molehill over.
This has been an approved HH rant.
would you make an offer to Souray? probably still has the cannon
Wow, talk about cranky…but I’m with you on the mountains and molehills. Another non story.
You’re right, in hindsight Kaberle wasn’t right for this team though I think that the problem lies not in his lack of a cannon but in the entire team’s lack of scorers up front (Max and Cole aside). Possibly if we had those scorers then Kaberle (who was just about the best available at the time for the role) would have been a reasonable addition. Just another wrong read all around by PG and BG.
I would prefer some up front scorers over a Wiz on the point. Wingers who can score for Pleks and Eller.

5 QUESTIONS THEY SHOULD’VE ASKED GOMEZ:
1. Do you think you might’ve made the playoffs if guys like you did what they needed to do to help the team win?
2. Do you think there is anyone in this room that will be sad if you are not back next year? If so, point them out.
3. Scott, do you think you can double your goal output next year?
4. What the hell is wrong with living on Long Island?

Q: What do you think of PK’s development this season?
A: Next question.

There it is, right there. Clear as day. A put down. A slag. A demeaning and seditious proclamation. A clear indication if there ever was one that the dressing room is a shambles and they all hate each other with a burning passion.
“Next question”?
Oh, the humanity.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
That was my take on it, too. A seething cauldron awaits the new GM
The Habs will have to get to the bottom of the problems with PK, if there really any worth getting to the bottom of.
I think some of the veterans are looking very immature making this into more than I’d bet it is.
PK is a very, very rare talent and if the team wants to go far, they will do what they have to do to put their differences behind them.

Michael Matheson from Pointe Claire perfectly bilingual for the politically thinking supporters of the Habs, I have seen him play many many times and he would be a steal with our first pick in the 2nd round.. Matheson has grown 2 more inches and is not as listed 6″1 but is now 6’3 size matters in the show. His biggest asset though is he is one of the best pure skaters in the draft, he has superior offensive and defnsive skills , skating hard shot. Physically strong going to Boston College NCAA after this season , playing in USHL Dubuque for former Hab Jim Montgomery. He was projected #1 in QMJHL draft ahead of Nathan Mckinnon but Mike chose the USHL and NCAA route after guiding Lac stLouis Lions to provincial crown. He also played on Team Canada’s U18 Gold medal team at the Ivan Hlinka Tourny
ISS has him at 25
CSS has him at 30
Some mock drafts have him going anywhere from 20-35 so may not be around when we choose in the second round
Matheson 3 goal game in ushl game for Dubuque highlights

Full Breezer 4 Life
We have 94th pick in the draft, definitively would be worth the pick in the 4th round, i have no questions about his skill , just the fact he is a little on the small size ,
Charles Hudon, lots of skill, with lots of questions about his skating. Slim pickings for Francopones this year.
2013 the Q wil have 2 top 5 picks in NHL draft Nathan Mckinnon Halifax and Anthony Duclair Quebec Remparts also I think Jonathan Drouin will be a first rounder as well
This will probably come across as something of an unintelligible mess, but here we go.
I came in here, thinking that we’ve danced to this tune before. I had faith that we knew better now, that we would not allow ourselves to get hoodwinked by the bloated nonsense of the media once again. We’ve suffered from it before. I thought that our pain had taught us to recognize that anger is often due to simple acts of manipulation and not to an recognition of objective facts. We’d learned out lessons from listening to manufactured, disingenuous reports and doubly mistranslated quotations that had us tossing away Cammalleri for worse than nothing (I reserve my right to hyperbole), had us believing that he was a locker-room cancer, or the droning reporting that had some individuals clamoring for the Canadiens to trade Subban because Gill hated him. No, because Desharnais hated him. No, because he’s selfish. No, because he doesn’t play the white way. No, because the point at which we’ve arrived in the “cocky black kid” or “Montreal sucks” narrative (or whatever the new narrative is this week) states that he’s a problem for such and such a reason.
This is as much a nonsensical non-issue as the massive, bloody, team-fracturing fight between Subban and Desharnais that Sportsnet was hyping a while back. You know, the “fight” that consisted of Subban hitting Desharnais and receiving a cross-check, and then… nothing. That fight: the kind that happens on every practice rink, every day. It’s as much a nonsensical non-issue as Gill’s ribbing of Subban to “stop being such an ass,” or something to that effect, which illustrated their “mutual loathing” and the fractured nature of the dressing room.
I do not know how the players view Subban, and my knowledge in this regard is just about equal to that of a reporter who can create such controversy out of ten seconds of an interview and one refusal to answer a question regarding another player. Does anyone in the media or among the fans really know what the players think or how they really interact? Unless we’re talking about Sean Avery, we know only their canned responses.
However, the media manufactures drama, manufactures controversy, manufactures a narrative, out of any minute deviations from the players’ script in order to sell itself. This is especially true when there is no reason for anyone to watch any longer, as is the case here due to the fact that the hockey season is over for our team and, thus, for RDS, or when there are obvious biases involved based on nationality, allegiance to a particular team and fan base, or, well, you know.
So please stop eating the narrative, whether it is written in French or English, whether it is manufactured in Montreal or Toronto, like it is your morning bowl of Wheaties.
Like I said, a mess, but I am ever so pissed.
Good rant! Kinda calmed me down. LOL!
OK… Bravo. I agree with everything and have nothing more to add. That is all.
Quite intelligible, in fact. I’d say right on! The funny thing is one starts off commenting on stuff like this by pointing out how ridiculous or manufactured the controversy is, but then everybody gets to weigh in with their takes, giving the story more life in the process, which is exactly what the reporting media wants to begin with.
It’s like everyone knows the game, but can’t quite help getting sucked into it. Arrrrgghhh, I am leaving this site now. See you all tomorrow for the draft selection.

Ok.. On the lighter side of the news… I reach out to the people who can only appreciate this along with me… My girlfriend comes home from work with one of these giant Kinder-egg Easter eggs with an original six theme for me… Basically, inside each egg is a mini Stanley cup with a corresponding Banner with one of the six teams last Stanley cup win… I laughed and told her that if it was Boston or the Leafs it was going in the garbage… I slowly unwrapped the silvery wrapping and revealed the giant egg… With heart pounding, I cracked open the shell and what was staring back at us?? A 1993 Stanley Cup Banner!!!

Funny how Markov keeps taking his sweet time when returning to the Habs lineup, but when asked today if he was going to play at the worlds, he said that he would let them know if he was asked.
What do you think his answer will be once he is asked and he will be asked.
Seems like he gets ready to
Play for Russia than play for the Habs. This will be the second time he will have done this. The other time was back at the Olympics.
No I think your read is wrong. He did seem upset at not being asked.
ugh.
Aahhh, nothing like a fresh Subban controversy during the season post-mortem of all times.
Wish Markov would have at least tried to be pleasant about it.
Yep, sounds exactly right. We have a 22-yr old stud who is not a problem on the ice – to everyone’s eyes has been steadily improving. But let’s trade him bc older guys who won’t be around in 2 years don’t quite know how to deal with him.
I have a feeling most of these guys have never had to adjust to a new neighbor growing up. You know, the growth of hockey means we may have to allow a wider range of behaviors around the game. Like Ovechkin pretending his stick is hot upon scoring his 50th goal is ok. A good young player who happens to be flamboyant isn’t the end of the world. In fact, it’s a good thing. Sports isn’t war, or life and death, it’s entertainment…
Seriously people, you believe all this crap?
What happened in between Markov’s first game back and today?
If there is animosity, PK really F’d up. But I ain’t buying the Markov hates Subban crap, at least not yet.
Because of saying…NOTHING…that’s right, not based on WHAT he said, it is based on what he did not say?
I don’t really buy it either. I just think Markov should’ve spit out a cliche to keep the media from going all vulture on this. Boone’s story of a month ago shows Subban praising Markov, for example:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=montgaz-ca-6343724
