Canadiens coach Bob Gainey confirmed today that he’ll use Patrice Brisebois on defence in Game 1, counting on his experience, but that Yannick Weber is making the trip and might be inserted as early as Saturday. Might be.
Mathieu Dandenault will play defence in Game 1.
Gainey said only the players he could use in game action would be on this afternoon’s charter flight to Boston, meaning Ryan O’Byrne and Weber. The status of Sergei Kostitsyn remains unclear, and Andrei Markov has not yet skated, at least in front of the eyes of the media.
Some of us believe that Markov will skate under the supervision of strength and conditioning coordinator Scott Livingston in Montreal or Brossard on Thursday and possibly Friday, and could be ready to go on Saturday. But that’s just wild rumour-mongering by people who do this for a living.
