Tougher match-up for the Canadiens?

No doubt about it.

Bigger than Boston, way tougher, more scorers, better D, led by Pronger … and riding an amazing wave if they come back from 0-3.

Which I think they’re gonna do.

Fun question:

With which player(s) and/or member(s) of the coaching staff would you like to be watching the game tonight?

For me, Cammalleri, Gorges and Jacques Martin.

  1. CharlieHodgeFan says:

What are you doing that you have to constantly repeat your worry about something collapsing?

  2. HabsFanInVictoria says:

Add this to the many moronic comments you make.

  3. zozotheclown says:

Is Philly this bad or Boston that good when facing elimination. I’m a little worried, but the Flyers look awful, probably thought forcing game 7 was enough, and Leighton does not look good. Time to book tickets to Boston, unless of course they blow a 3-0 series lead and 3-0 game 7 lead, that would be EPIC.

  4. Tis Himself says:

They’ll have to double shift Begin for it to happen.

  5. Tis Himself says:

    That was a softie!!!

  6. Danno says:

Like I said, we’re heading to Boston.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  7. Tis Himself says:

I have no doubt that Ryder will have a good game this evening. The real question is whether Steve Begin can neutralize it and then some like he did when the Habs played the Leafs in the final game of the ’07-08 campaign?

  8. zozotheclown says:

A defensive team that wins with special teams and goaltending, sounds familiar…. Boston does look great playing with desperation though.

  9. Danno says:

    We’re heading to Boston.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  10. WarHero says:

Perfect :) Let’s hope we get a few key injuries :) Nothing to serious … just enough to mis about 4 games or so, lol

Never judge another man’s decision poor until you actually have proof of it failing!

  11. zozotheclown says:

Important first goal, if we play Boston are we the favorites? That would be new for an 8th place team.

  12. Tis Himself says:

    I still like Ryder!

  13. Danno says:

    Pounding each other!

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  14. AH says:

For me, PK, Cammi, Gomez, Jaro, Moen and Muller. Totally agree with you Boone, as I posted on the other page; Pronger, Carcillo, Richards, Hartnell, Briere and Gagne = YIKES!! Bring on the Bruins, please!

  15. HabsRadio says:

For me it would have to be PK, Gill, and Gomez – all three seem to be a riot.

  17. CHsam says:

I’d watch with Guy Boucher and ask him to do running commentary

  18. Treefingers says:

    Go Bruins

  19. dysonsphere says:

Sure, I will go along with that. Philadelphia is the more worthy opponent.

    Bring them on.

    As for the fun question:

    Muller, Subban, Cammalleri

  20. WarHero says:

Boston or Philly? hmmm …. Either is going to be tough (tonights game is going be quite rough I think) but if I had to choose, I would say the Bruins would be the tougher challenge due to goal tending. Add in the rivalry and it being an original six match-up on top of that and you have what could be a great series :)

    My 3 would be:

    Cammy, Gionta and Gill

If I could have a fourth, Muller would be the guy.

Never judge another man’s decision poor until you actually have proof of it failing!

  21. Big Ted says:

Would rather face the Bruins but it’s not like we’ve had our choice of opponents all playoffs long so we’ll deal with whoever we get. If it’s the B’s, the game plan should be to exploit the D. If it’s the Flyers, it’ll be to get them to take bad penalties and pressure Leighton.

For me, game would have to be PK for his enthusiasm, Gill for his humor, Spacek for the entertainment value, and Lapierre for his candor. Who else looks surprised to score a goal? I imagine he’d tell it like it is about the refs and the Bruins/Flyers players.

  22. Grabbed The Cup says:

    FU BMW bitch!

You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can’t stand little notes on my pillow. “We’re all out of cornflakes. F.U.” Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Unger!

  23. Chuck says:

“Yeah… new, is in you never had it before.”

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  24. Danno says:

Either way, it’s going to be playoff hockey.

Hope they both beat the living crap out of each other tonight and it goes into multiple periods of overtime and ends sometime Saturday afternoon.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  25. Wamsley01 says:

I know a reverse jinx when I see one!

  26. ganderhab says:

remember this Wilson cheat sheet from the first game of the season – hope he doesn’t look for job as a Pro Scout someday

  27. MICP says:

It seems that the Flyers are getting healthy while the B’s are more banged up. I just may have to root for Boston.

  28. twocents says:

… and lacking a legitimate NHL starting goaltender.

  29. Bill says:

The Flyers are like the two teams Montreal just beat: big, skilled, high-scoring, but with suspect goaltending. I like it. The Bruins are just like the Habs: scrappy, few offensive threats, playing team D with a hot young goalie.

These are the teams that have beaten Montreal in the playoffs the past two years. Neither is going to be easy.

  30. zozotheclown says:

I don’t know about that. So far the Canadiens have played and beaten teams with high powered offence and mediocre goaltending. Philly fits the bill perfectly, they may hit more then the teams we’ve played, but the trade off is they have less offence, esspecially with Carter out. We’ve done Ovy/Backstrom then Crosby/Malkin, so Richards/Briere/Gagne is certainly a do-able task. Plus our snipers should have no problem with Leighton; Varly, Theo and Fleury may not be the best in the world, but they’re surely much better then he is. Pronger will be a problem, but its either him or Chara, I think thats a wash in this case.

Basically I want Philly because they more closely resemble the teams we’ve played thus far. Boston has an anemic offence, and won’t be frustrated by us holding them to 1 or 2 goals a game. They’ll hit like the Flyers will and are perfectly happy playing 2-1 games over and over, plus Rask can always pull one out of his hat. We’ve done well against the B’s this year, but the only big wins came against Thomas, Rask forced us in to many close games, and could prove to be a problem.

  31. nightmare_49 says:

…  the refs for this 7th game are Stephen Walkom and Kelly Sutherland.

  32. MikeL says:

I’d rather face the Bruins as well. Although Philly has questionable goaltending, they will be on just as much a high as the Habs if they pull of this comeback. Not to mention they’ll get to go home and start the series as heroes. Momentum is everything in these playoffs, as the Habs have showed everyone.

The Bruins, if they win, will more than likely just be relieved they escaped catastrophe. Although they play similar to the Habs, they have virtually no offense with Savard recovering and Krechji gone for the year. Philly, on the other hand, has loads of offensive weapons, even with the loss of Jeff Carter. Notibly, Quebecers Daniel Briere, Simon Gagne, and Claude Giroux – all of whom have been huge for the Flyers in their comeback. Zdeno Chara is a perennial Norris Trophy candidate, but has a history of not being able to handle the Habs quick forwards. I doubt Pronger will have as much trouble.

  33. habs4ever2894 says:

As Boone would say it was never in doubt….. It’s pretty much a spring time tradition that we face the bruins. They currently have a 3-0 lead and i doubt they will be beaten by a comeback at home. I think its gonna be a very tough series and i wouldn’t be surprised if it went to a game 7. These bruins are a different animal than the caps or pens( no pun intended) but i think our guys will be able to beat them.

Montreal VS Bruins and it’s gonna be a wild series.

  34. SeriousFan09 says:

Bruins will be a different fight, but they’re so lead-footed that Cammalleri, AK, Pleks, Gomez, Gio will give them fits beyond all belief. They don’t have the guns to breach our defence and netminding either, it won’t go to 7 this time.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  35. Lafrich says:

Dude. You look like Stephane Richer.

  36. ANSPI says:

The Flyers seem really tired! They’re struggling to get back on those rushes.

  37. zozotheclown says:

Not a goalies night, good, end 8-7 and lose all confidence plz.

  38. Tis Himself says:

Rask just can’t handle that off-speed stuff!

  39. Danno says:

    But they have Rask

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  40. SeriousFan09 says:

We have Halak and Rask wasn’t at his best in this series.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  41. habs4ever2894 says:

This is the playoffs where players always step up. I know boston is missing kreji and sturm but they still have Ryder( who was very good against us last playoffs), Wheeler ,Savard , Lucic and some other guys that can chip in. They also have the best goalie other than Jaro in these playoffs and the best shutdown d-man in the league. This series will not be as easy as you think , They are playing for a conference title.

  42. SeriousFan09 says:

2009 was them running over us over with an 18-wheeler. We’ve shut down four of the six best players in the world so far and those guys don’t rate in the top 20, our D will be prepared for them. Rask is good, but Halak has better stats with tougher opponents.

We’re playing for a Conference Title as well, but our team is well equipped to handle a lumbering team that can’t attack with speed.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  43. Tis Himself says:

I wonder what it costs to feed that thing?

  44. habs4ever2894 says:

    About 4.50$ a day.

  45. Keith says:

I would like to watch the game with Cammalleri, Gill and Kirk Muller because he’s beautiful and I HATED it when Serge Savard traded him out of Montreal.

Looks like the Booins want it more.

  46. Danno says:

Uh oh. Are these plane tickets exchangable?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  47. 11habs11 says:

I’m thinkin Cammy (cause he’s so cool), Gill (seems like he’s a laugh), and Gorges (seems like a good guy to get on the beer with)

  48. 11habs11 says:

This is nuts, we’re an 8th seed praying that we don’t have to face the 7th seed in the conference finals lol

    Life is good

  49. Fargo Habs Fan says:

    Come on, OT baby…

“The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.

  50. joeybarrie says:

Definitely Muller. Gainey cause he is a LEGEND. And finally Metro. He seems like a good guy.

Alternate would be SK so I could kick him in the ASS….

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  51. Danno says:

Down 3-0 in the series Flyers come back to tie it. Down 3-0 in this game Flyers come back to tie it.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  52. habs4ever2894 says:

wow…. The bruins just pooped the bed.

  53. Tis Himself says:

I would rather face Julien than Laviolette. We already had one bad experience with the latter.

  54. sidhu says:

Great game — let these teams beat each other up!  Hopefully they’ll play a few OTs :)

  55. dysonsphere says:

    props to you.

    you called it.

and they didn’t even have to double shift begin.

  56. Danno says:

I hope the game keeps going until lunchtime tomorrow.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  57. Tis Himself says:

Stop holding out on us. Give us your LOTTO numbers!

  58. zozotheclown says:

Great game to watch, unless of course your a fan of either of these teams, heart attack city.

  59. joeybarrie says:

CMON Bruins. Only time I can root for them. I think we can pick them apart. They COULD meltdown worse than Washington. I don’t want to constantly fight against the Flyers. They have had the injuries too, so I think they are just as motivated as we are.

If the Flyers win they will be on a high, coming back to win 4 straight. If the B’s win they will be worried about screwing up again…

    GO B’s GO

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  60. Fansincebirth says:

    Go Brooooooooooooooons Go!! *sigh*

“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden

  61. Danno says:

Flyers just got Chris Lee’d on that goal.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  62. zozotheclown says:

But if the Flyers win we get to keep being the underdog, what momentum they’ll have, much like the Pens and Caps entering our series. If Boston wins we become the favorite, and I don’t know how we’ll respond to that.

Either way both teams look awful tonight, hopefully we don’t play down to our opponents level, something we did alot during the season.

  63. Peter Young says:

I’m hoping the Bruins pull this one out because we stand a much better chance of surviving the Bruins relatively unscathed than we do against the Flyers, who will surely render at least a couple of our players lame.  We need to be at full strength to take on the Sharks/Hawks winner.  But hope is fading fast.  The Bruins look like they’re well on the way to blowing the game.

  64. Danno says:

    Bruins lie in ruins tonight.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  65. habz says:

i hope they go into triple overtime! ha! but..i dont know…i’m kinda hoping we play the bruins though.

  66. zozotheclown says:

Should the Flyers win, is blowing a 3-0 series lead then a 3-0 game 7 lead the biggest collapse in NHL playoff history? Its up there for sure.

  67. Ayan_SB says:

Imagine if Philly wins it tonight. It’ll mean the #7 Flyers and #8 Habs advances to the ECF, while the #1 Sharks and the #2 Hawks duke it out in the WCF.

  68. ths says:

Which member of Habs would I like to be watching game with ?

No Contest : The Tits brothers and Carey.

    Women, Krug, Cigars, Blow

It would be the best party ever

Ooh Aah Habs on the war path

  69. Peter Young says:

Wow, we’re set for a one-period showdown.  We’re supposed to feel no stress because we’re neutral.  But I’m feeling stress even though I believe we can take either one of these teams.  That’s because I just know if we have to meet the Flyers, they will damage us by putting at least a couple of our players on stretchers.  The Flyers are made for hatred.

  70. dpthehabsfan says:

With which player(s) and/or member(s) of the coaching staff would you like to be watching the game tonight?

For me, Cammalleri, Gorges and Jacques Martin.

Pleks, no question. Smart, great hockey sense, down to earth, and one day a coach.

  71. Ayan_SB says:

Just my opinion here, but I think Plekanec has the highest hockey IQ on the team.

Anyways, I’d wanna watch the game with Gill, he sounds hilarious. When asked what Simpsons character he’d be, he said Barney haha.

Edit: Gomez and Gill would be a blast, I’d be laughing non-stop.

  72. Chris Aung-Thwin says:

Who I’d watch the game with…

For pure awkward entertainment: Sergei, Carey, Max

For quiet awkwardness: JM, Markov, AK46

At the Burgundy Lion: Metro, Moen, Pyatt

At the peelers: Price, Moore, O’Byrne

At my mother’s: Pearn, Gorges, Halak

For a great time: Cammy, Gomez, Muller

  73. Ayan_SB says:

The Burgandy Lion’s right near my house. I’ve heard about it before, so I was wondering, what’s so special about it?

  74. Danno says:

PK, Hal Gill, Cammy or Gio

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  75. HabsFanInVictoria says:

    Cammy, Muller and Gionta.

I’d love to see what Pleks is like in a social environment though.

  76. dpthehabsfan says:

Pretty sure you could invite Muller to your Mom’s house too. He’s a nice down-home boy who’d tell a few old (polite) stories from Kingston, and be totally family-oriented. Then you could take him out on the town, and he’d tell some less polite stories, and still be the first to go home.

  77. habsoul says:

Ha ha, I would like to watch it at Boston bar with Hal Gill, PK Subban, and Scott Gomez.

But your awkward trio sure sounds like strange fun.

  78. RedLight says:

… and the bartender replies, “Sorry, we don’t serve those after April.”

  79. HUDSONHAB says:

Muller, Gomez and Metro(Philly /Bruin connection)

  80. zozotheclown says:

    Exciting hockey

  81. HUDSONHAB says:

WoW. It’s the Don Cherry playoffs…. Too many men.

  82. Chuck says:

Don’t know whot to cheer for. I think that we match up better against Boston, but Philly’s goaltending has to be the bigger question mark.

And then there’s the possibility of seeing the bRuins leave a big steaming pile at centre ice tonight…

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

From 0-3 to 4-3. It’s like the entire series wrapped up in one game.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  87. joeybarrie says:

I want the Bruins to win here. But its fun watching them screw it up. UP 3 GAMES TO 0, and they lose the last 3… UP 3 GOALS TO 0 and they let Philly score the next 4… PLUS there is a HUGE amount of Philly fans there. Its like HOME vs HOME…

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  88. zozotheclown says:

Bruins have had great special teams all playoffs too, they did give up a goal there, but its another reason I’d rather see Philly.

  89. Chuck says:

    I can see it now:

“What if Claude Julien didn’t coach like Don Cherry?”

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  90. TheMock780 says:

Who would I watch a game with? Bob Gainey (A philosopher of the game. I’d love to pick his brain about hockey), Halak (Because goalies are interesting and always odd ducks), and Subban (he just seems like a guy you’d have a great time hanging out with).

Boy Julien and the Bruins leadership has to be put under one large microscope after this one. Biggest choke job in NHL history?

  91. Rugger says:

looks like a coaching spot open in Boston soon

  92. habsoul says:

Wow, I actually feel bad for the Bruins.

    What a collapse!

  93. TheMock780 says:

Going to Philly against the hottest team in the NHL. It’s going to be one heck of a series

  94. zozotheclown says:

Wow, don’t know that I’ve ever seen a bigger playoff choke in any sport, just wow.

  95. CharlieHodgeFan says:

    Hard work ahead…

  96. joeybarrie says:

What kind of Habs Fan are you??????/  Feeling BAD fot the Bruins. OUT, OUT…You are not welcome here…

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  98. habsoul says:

    Simply unreal.

But I think it’s better for the Habs. They know they’re going to have to play just as hard as they did in the first two rounds to overcome a Flyers’ team that must by sky-high.

  112. habsoul says:

C’mon, didn’t you feel for the little guy in the Bruins hat who was sobbing on his brother’s sleeve? 😉

God, how poetic is it for Boston to lose because of a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty!

  113. CharlieHodgeFan says:

That is awful for the Bruins. Say what you will, they have a tradition too, and a choke like the one we just saw hasn’t been part of it til now. I don’t like either team but I respect both, and that was uglier than Bobby Clarke in his prime.

  114. SeriousFan09 says:

  119. zozotheclown says:

Just proves that he has Julien’s number, not ours, we’ll be fine.

  120. habsfaninboston says:

You think so? I’m not so sure. They’ve got a high draft pick coming up and Julien is one of the better coaches considering what’s out there for alternate choices.

  121. SeriousFan09 says:

Hurricanes had a Conn Smythe goalie to get them that Cup, anyone think Leighton can play like Ward? Laviolette also doesn’t have Justin Williams to poke out our captain’s eye and we don’t have Sergei Samsonov on our roster.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  122. ABHabsfan says:

Those are 3 excellent points. Although the habs don’t have a captain to have his eye poked out.

  123. SPATS says:

And how many of the current habs roster were on that team? Not too many I’m sure, and JM wasn’t the coach either. HABS IN 4

  124. Chris says:

    (i)  At the time, nobody thought that Cam Ward was a Conn Smythe goalie either.  I’m not saying that Leighton is going to be that good, based on his career arc thus far.  But stranger things have happened.

(ii)  Peter Laviolette does have Chris Pronger and Dan Carcillo to cause all sorts of grief for the Habs with their dirty play.  So while we don’t have a captain, I sure as heck am going to cringe every time either of those jackals go into the corner with one of our key players.

(iii)  We don’t have Sergei Samsonov, but we do have Sergei Kostitsyn…  :)

This series scares me. I have been wary of the Bruins and the Flyers coming into the playoffs, as they are the teams built to be big and punishing, and they both tended to crash the net with reckless abandon, something that gave the Habs fits in the Washington series.  Boston had the tighter defence, while Philly has the better offence.  Now, they also have every bit of momentum and destiny on their side as Habs’ fans are claiming for our team.

Should be a good series, as I suspect the Flyers will be more of a handful than many Montreal fans think going into the series.

  125. Grabbed The Cup says:

    Ahh Chuck, always in tune!

You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can’t stand little notes on my pillow. “We’re all out of cornflakes. F.U.” Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Unger!

He just coached one of the biggest collapses in playoff history, what would you call it?

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  127. dpthehabsfan says:

I’d call it a collapse…obvious…but is it Julien’s fault? His D just isn’t effective…Chara is not worth what he’s being paid…Wideman doesn’t seem into it.

Yes, Julien will pay for it, but, his fault? Not sure…..

Plus you lose 2 key players like Krecji (sp?) and Sturm — guys like that are hard to replace.  I realize we’ve had to deal with some key injuries as well, but nonetheless, it definitely hurts when you lose a couple of key guys.

WOW! Big time choke for the Bruins. Flyers are on a high winning 4 straight. It’s going to be a long series.

wow, the bruins are CAPITALLY pathetic and…played like penguins? lol, just trying to fit in all the losers in. but man are the bruins incompetent.

Mercifully it’s over. Better to be embarrassed by Philly than
f….n Montreal. This team has been boooooring all year except for a
minor burst at the end of the season and a few playoff games. Only a
handful of keepers, the rest aren’t even trade bait. Think a draft pick
is going to make a difference? Think this team is going to be better
next year without a MAJOR shakeup? GOOD F….N LUCK.

Typical Bruins. Can’t put total 60 minute effort together.
Maybe if they play the 2nd period like they did in the 1st, they win and
will be facing Montreal. Also, did Montreal send a couple of ghosts to
TD Garden and trick the Bruins into a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty. I
still think if Tim Thomas plays here and there, they would have gone
farther. Tuukka let in too many cheapies.

Flyers werent my choice. Leighton though can be beaten I think. At least hes isnt a Quebec born goalie like Biron was.

I think Philly was the best opponent for the habs. Its better to face the best offense than the best defense…Let Jaro get peppered -it works!
