The Canadiens blew a two-goal lead in the third period against the Boston Bruins Saturday and return home to Montreal tied 1-1 in their best-of-seven playoff series.
“We’ve just got to regroup, realize the situation we’re in,” said Canadiens goaltender Carey Price after the Habs 5-3 loss to the Bruins. The Canadiens are in a good spot, added Price, who turned in another fine performance.
“We weren’t expecting to come in here and sweep two games.”
The Canadiens knew it was going to be a long series and are ready for that, said Canadiens coach Michel Therrien.
“We have to look at the big picture,” he said.
“I thought we played really well for 50 minutes even in the third period. The first 10 minutes we were almost perfect,” Therrien said.
“There was a bad coverage for the second goal and you need breaks to win hockey games–and this is what they got from (Patrice) Bergeron’s goal,” he said. “You look at the replay and it’s a bad bounce in front of the net. We got some breaks last game and they got the breaks tonight,” Therrien added.
Mike Weaver and Thomas Vanek scored for the Habs. Vanek scored back-to-back goals on the power play, deflecting two shots by P.K. Subban past Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask. With two assists, Subban now leads the Canadiens in the playoffs with 9 points.
“We had a two-goal lead. We have to manage the puck better and do smarter things out there, making sure we are being smart with the puck and putting ourselves in a good position,” Subban said.
“We are playing good hockey. We just have to focus for a full 60 and get back to it,” he said.
Subban was also asked about the racist tweets aimed at him on Twitter during Thursday’s game. “It’s completely unfair for anybody to point the finger at the organization or the fan base. They have passionate fans here, great fan base and since I’ve been in the league it’s been awesome. I’ve come to Boston many times, my family has come here, and it’s been great.”
“What people may say on Twitter or social media is not a reflection by any means of the league or the Boston Bruins,” he added.
