Bear with us, Habs fans. There is light at the end of this tunnel. The short version: our current server capacity has been overwhelmed by the number of new users signing up, and we’re dealing with the problem as swiftly as possible. The longer version: see below.
Dedicated readers have no doubt noticed a scaling back of some features here at HI/O. Due to the large and rapidly increasing number of people who have joined the site, our web server has not been able to keep pace with the demand. The problem is that it takes much more processing and memory to serve customized pages for each individual than it does to serve the same page to everyone, every time.
Last night, we performed major upgrades to our server capacity. However, this is still not enough, as demand continues to outstrip supply. As a result, we’re forced to automatically turn off comments when traffic is high. We plan to perform yet another major upgrade to our capacity this evening, and we hope to have things running smoothly in the very near future.
In the mean time, we have set up a alternate comment server, which will be consistently online while we sort out these growing pains.
Thanks for your continued patience and enthusiasm.
