Win or lose – if you are Vancouver do you trade the sedin sisters to a team that only cares about the regular season? Or do you keep them and get pissed every time you think of how good your team would be with male players?
Ps when did the 5 post limit happen? What will we do when gomer signs his contract extension?
Btw my kids squirts coach benched his best player in the 3rd yesterday (admittedly with a lead) for not passing. Is that great or what?
I wouldn’t trade the Sedins. But I sure would trade Luongo. They’re overpaying for average to good netminding in a big way with Schneider on the bench.
Win or lose, when do we stop attacking people in the NHL for where they’re born?

The Sedins fit perfectly into Vancouver’s line up. Every team should have a couple talented offensive players like the Sedins as long as they make up for it with guys like Kessler, Bieksa, Burrows, Raymond, Torres and a few others.
The problem is Montreal is mostly made up of Sedin type players- without as much offense and next to no toughness.
Brad Milbury ? Is that your name ?
Trade them! Who needs the only pair of brothers to win back-to-back Art Ross trophies in history? They’re useless!
25 before 14
The Sedins lead the top team in the league in points in the regular season and are leading the team in points in the post season. They are one win away for the Cup. I’ll take these sisters on my team any day.

Lucic is the biggest baddest guy as long as he can sneak up behind you and blind side you while you’re preoccupied with someone else. Yeah he’s bad like that.
That’s exactly what I think of him.
He’s also pretty overrated. I doubt he gets anywhere near 30 goals without Krejci or a pre-concussion Savard
He’d score 50 with Gomez.

Golf, cuz playing with Gomez will cause that.
+50, that is. Cuz Gomez drags down his foursome just like his Hockey line mates.
Exactly, we learned everything we needed to know about Lucy when we saw him run like a little bitch from BGL…. Remember in round one, the game where Chara was pushing around Plekanec? Same goes for Lurch. He’s a coward. Cowards like him, Marchand, and Horton wear Bruins jersey’s.
Remember it well.
That’s the night he got a whole lot quicker on his skates and learned how to use the word ” Sir ” at the beginning AND end of every sentence. As in :

Maybe SF09 or someone else can look into the rumours of Brock Trotter returning to North America next season… Though he isn’t necessarily the ‘hulking power forward’ everyone is calling for, he is still a valuble asset that we retain the rights to…. He also could be very valuable to the Dogs….

You made me dislike Obama don’t make me like the Bruins.
For a guy who is not afraid to share his sometimes off the wall thoughts & ideas. You’re influenced by PT so easily. Scary.
P.S. No disrespect intended to PT, more of statement on HH’s apparently easy to affect opinions.
No one could ever make me like the Bruins, NEVER happen!
Couldn’t agree more with your comments on Thomas. His smirking made me want to smash my TV.
I think the only players on the Bruins I can respect are Bergeron and Lucic.
I hate, hate, hate the rest. Chara is a vengeful thug, a bully. Horton was a pussy in Florida, then all of a sudden became a tough guy with Lucic next to him, picking on Gionta and the like. Campbell for being his daddy’s boy and the crap he pulled on Pyatt. Marchand for his lifetime achievements. Ference the Finger, who’s not really that type of guy, he’ll assure you. McQuaig for being a talentless goonish pylon.
The Canucks absolutely must win the next game.
———————————
“I hate the Bruins more than the Nordiques, who I hate more than the Flyers.”
Care to explain how you could possibly respect Lucic? He’s the dirtiest of the bunch.
The thing about Lucic is that he’s the biggest baddest man on the ice, and he has a mean streak a mile wide, but he has skills. If he was on our team, I wouldn’t be embarrassed by him, as I would be by Horton or Marchand. He backs up what he does, and he contributes to the success of the team.
I don’t remember any incidents where he was dirty, just tough and mean. Of course I’m open to any such incidents being pointed out.
I do remember his ‘battles’ with Komisarek, where Mike went after him after getting his clock cleaned in a previous game. Lucic pounded him again, and then kind of ignored him in subsequent games, even if Mike pretended really hard that he wanted another go at him. In his demeanor, he indicated to Mike that he had proven his point, any more fights would be pointless and maybe a little cruel and unfair. I wonder if that was the end of Mike as we knew him, because he has sucked it since going to Toronto.
———————————
“I hate the Bruins more than the Nordiques, who I hate more than the Flyers.”
I still remember a cheap blindside cross check to Moore’s head some time near the end of the regular season…
Lucic also classlessly tried to fight Pouliot (and Horton went after Subban) in the third period of the game Pacioretty was injured and the whole Bell Center and hockey world were still in shock.
Yeah, I remember him trying to get at Pouliot, I think in the Bruins’ mind he was trying to avenge Krejci, in the previous game Pouliot had tuned him up. My memory is shaky, but I think Benny grabbed him in a scrum when a whole bunch of Bruins were going after the smaller Canadiens on the ice, and after they had pounded Pyatt and Spacek. Anyway, Pouliot ended up with Krejci and won decisively, and their whole bench was howling with rage. Who started it, was it Benny, or was it Campbell on Pyatt, or was it…
My general point is that guys like Corson or Wendel or Tocchet or Lucic are probably hateable when they are on the other teams’ rosters, but they are worthy of respect. Sure, you’ll see an elbow or highstick or crosscheck from them once in a while, but they are skilled players who play the game hard and will answer the bell and account for themselves when they need to. Unlike Marchand or Linseman or Claude Lemieux.
As far as Horton on PK, well I have no doubt PK would account for himself well if one-on-one with him. Horton, on the other hand, was the biggest loafer when he was in Florida, he just got courage-by-association now that he’s surrounded with goons.

Mike Milbury was famous for two things as a player:
1. Getting deked out of his skates for highlight reel goals.
2. Beating a fan with his shoe.
As a coach he was responsible for a new rule whereby coaches no longer select all-stars, because he loaded his team with goons (famously took Chris Nilan ahead of Guy Lafleur).
As a GM. Well, I think we all know what he is famous for. The Islanders still haven’t recovered. The epic mess he left behind is on the order of Lehman Brothers, Bear Sterns, or George W Bush’s presidency.
Don’t forget the time Guy Lafleur fired a high hard one at his face.

Thanks Mike for the article. If everyone recall the Sedins come to the defense of Max earlier this year over the Chara hit. We can only hope they finish them off tomorrow. We (Habs) have been great champions and do not lower ourselves to Bruin level. In some way Vancouver had no choice to match their idiotic ways. If they win they are would be deserving of it for they had a good year. This final has not been a very good one in most part I blame that to the kind of hockey the bruins play. There a good team no doubt but they feel they can be more successful (brand and all) by selling that kind of product. I am proud to be a hab fan and I am proud our organization from management to the media that represents them. Were going to win the big one soon and were going to do with with dignity.
The response from the Sedins’ was excellent – their measured, but still stinging, comments show just how boorish, crude and simpleminded Milbury has once again showed himself to be.
Oh that’s rich lol Milbury has NO bragging rights.

Personally I’ll be very happy when this year’s playoffs are over. It is impossible to cheer for the Canucks and this Canada’s team b.s is just that, B.S. Whiners divers and actors no wonder Lappy fits in. And the Bruins are the team I hate most in all of sport. They have the most two-faced duplicitous group of managers, a coach who makes up shit and thinks the public will believe him, and has a team of goons and cement heads and cry-babies. SIGH Really the best outcome in my mind is a bomb goes off in the TD gardens and puts us all out of our misery.

Anyone know how arbitration works? If Parise goes to arbitration, Im pretty sure they can award him a one or two year contract at the maximum. If that is the case, is Parise UFA after that contract expires?
Parise didn’t have a contract year last season but I think over his career, management will gather information on how they can evaluate his contract is worth. I think probably Parise will want a 3-5 year deal of 4.5-6m because he deserves the money, he already took a big discount by his old contract.
“Responding to the media , or playing to the media, or listening to the fans is the quickest way to start losing” – Sam Pollock
Parise played all of 13 games last season, and the two prior seasons he had 94 and 82 points, including 45 and 38 goals respectively. No arbitrator can reason any salary under $6 million with those kinds of numbers.
My question was more about if Parise gets a one or two year award from an arbitrator, is he UFA after that term?
It the team walks away from the arbitrator decision to award 6m to Parise, he’ll be UFA. Either way, this is his last year of him being a RFA.

Man, the Nucks totally surprised me last night. Luongo bounces back yet again on home ice, they go on a hitting spree that left the Bruins bruised and surprised and they use a kid on D who looks like Johnny Cool for most of the night. I can’t figure them out..lol..They looked like a team dead in the water after Game 4. Still, if the Bruins score first in last night’s tilt, they win. IT’s that close. Still can’t get my head around the lack of offense from the Nucks in particular. Full credit to Thomas but I still believe they should be getting a few through him. Oh well..its been entertaining but not sure it will go down as an all time classic. Part of me thinks a team like Detroit, with their experience alone, would already be hoisting the Cup against these Bruins.
Im really surprised also.
One thing I find that the canucks have not been doing well is getting under thomas’ skin. Once he gets rattled, the wheels fall off and its easy to pop 2 or 3 quick goals by him. This has happened to him in every single series except this one. Seems like thomas’ has been more effective getting under the canucks skin (with plenty of help from refs who seem to let him do as he pleases) rather than the canucks getting under his skin.
Once we put aside the justifiable loathing for the Bruins and the justifiable HATE for the bruins inggrained in us as Habs fans, we gotta kinda be hockey purist and realize that the Bruins are a well rounded team which match up well with Vancouver. In fact the Bruins may even be a more balanced team than Vanc and Thomas tilts the edge towards the Bruins favour even further.
Objectively speaking the Bruins could have won all of the games played so far and one cant say that about Vanc. So I dont think you can say they would have been chop liver for Detroit.
Having said that, our series against the Bruins may have proven that the Habs may just be a player or two away from contender status.
True we went out in round 1. But our round 1 was Tampa’s round 3 and looked what happened.
That photo is isolating and not relevant. Should we all high five the guy in the middle now or what? I wanted to read about Max’s goal, not see a photo of painted tits. Sorry to be crass, but the photo is crass.

Just thinking if Markov and Gorges start the season on the injury reserve list the habs have enough money to sign the wiz. I also saw the name mancari mentioned as a possible signing, I think he would be a great addition.
They’ll both be healthy in time for the season, barring another injury to one of them so there’s no way they’d resign Wiz based on that.

Mancari seems like he’d be a bottom pairing guy for us. I can’t see him impacting the lineup in any important way.
The Carter to Columbus rumours continue.
http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/2011/06/carter_dudley_and_more.shtml
Given Columbus historical drafting record, they should jump on that trade. Plus would love to see Carter out of Philadelphia. Of course philly with that 8th pick will probably end up with a stud again.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
8th spot could easily be Murphy or Hamilton. Columbus really needs a QB on the back-end.
Carter is 26 and Columbus has been searching for a top line centre longer than we have:-) His contract runs until he’s around 36 or 37 but has a decnet cap hit (5.7M?)
It’s a tough call.
I just don’t think the columbus scouts have a concept of how to draft. That organization picked Nash when choice was obvious and have really drafted nothing else that has truly become franchise untouchable.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Very good point. Some teams just dont have it when it comes to drafting. Mind you, the habs success with first round draft choices hasn’t been particularly brilliant either, although improving as of late.
My understanding is that finically speaking Columbus need results now.
HF72, think your right man. They could be next Atlanta Thrashers, that team is leaking money like the Valdez. Probably to the point ownership will Fup the future and risk all to get 1 good playoff run. Who knows, maybe then they sell the team to Balsillie, since apparantly him and Bettman are talking.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Ah man, I was beginning to spread the Gomez to Columbus rumors myself.

Read the article and I must say I find the whole Bryz/Flyers thing a bit mystifying. I hate the Flyers so I hope they screw up their team, but I’m surprised by it all cuz I thought Holmgren did a good job building that team…..except for the goalie thing which I thought was addressed by the emergence of Bobrovsky. He didn’t play great down the stretch or in the playoffs but he’s a rookie so give him some time. Personally, I think he’ll be good enough (considering the rest of their roster) to get them there. Detroit did it so why not Philly?
Projections of 6mil for Bryz and on a 5 year deal?!?! He’s is a very good goalie, so not trying to take anything away from him, but that seems excessive to me. Plus, where does that leave them with Bobrovsky? Do they really have that little faith in his abilities or potential? Or are they just out of patience with their cup window? IMO, Carter is a good player with an attractive cap hit of 5.27mil (despite a too-long term) and is not worth losing for a very good goalie knowing Bobrovsky might be good enough and at a cheap cap hit for the next 2 years.
Versteeg is an easy asset to move and would free up 3.1mil in space, plus is fairly easy to replace. Hartnell’s 4.2mil might be a bit more difficult to move but still not that bad considering his point production and everything else he brings. That’s 7.3mil between the two of them. If it were me, I would look at these options before considering parting with Carter.
- Honestly yours
Along with bob, they are also still on the hook for Leighton (lol) for 1.5 next year without a 2 way contract.
And while I don’t watch the Flyers too often, it seemed to me in the playoffs many of their goaltending problems were self inflicted. Sometimes you need to pull a goalie for various reasons but that was ridiculous and self-destructive in my opinion, and didn’t get nearly the potential they could have got out of either goalie.

This five post limit can be a bit of a pain.
A few quick points going out to Tom Nickle.
Your 1st line of MaxPac, Pleks and Cammy is intriguing. Maybe Darche could be on the 3rd line but that would mean another player would have to come in and balance off the Gomez line. When it’s all said and done, we need to go out and get another solid top six guy (I would also qualify Pouliot, we have nothing to lose by doing so).
As for Lapierre, I’m glad to see that you took the bait!!! I was just giving you the needle because I remember you and HFS72 discussing him last night.
I certainly know his limitations and weaknesses, but I always liked him as a 4th liner. Secondary players are interchangeable and cheap (cap wise) so it’s not the end of the world that’s he’s gone. I just would have kept him over some other guys. As for the trade, we got nothing in return. I’m not getting too excited about a 5th round pick, not when the other team receives a 3rd rounder for him four months later.
Gallagher is a 5th round pick Steve. When he’s ripping off 30 goal seasons like they’re nothing I’ll be sure to remind you about the value of a 5th round pick to the organization.
On Pouliot. I think he’s played his way off of the team and will get traded. But I always liked him with Gomez and Gionta. Gionta always shoots and that line rarely dumps the puck in because they haven’t had anyone that can be the first man on the puck below the goal line. Pouliot is often that man with whatever line he plays on. If there’s a place where he can succeed on this team, that’s it.
Way to go TomNickle. I am a Gallagher fan too.
I think the issue with Lapierre is not his skill level or his usefulness.
For me, and I suspect for team management, as was the case for Mike Ribeiro, Lapierre’s behaviour is simply not what we want from a Montreal Canadien.
Huh? I’m far more insulted or embarrassed to have a player like Alex Kovalev than I could ever be to have a Lapierre.
Lapierre puts in effort, Kovalev stole a paycheck, more so than Scott Gomez actually.
Lapierre had one season where he went at full-speed the whole time, the 08-09 year. Aside from that, he had on/off results as checking forward due to his own commitment game to game.
I think his issue has been he gets a little too cocky after he scores a goal or makes a big play than keeps trying to do it all the time instead of focusing on being an energy player.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
SF09 on Twitter
I really disagree with that Robert. Are you referring to commitment or consistency? I don’t think I can refer to a time where Lapierre was a passenger with this team. And to be quite honest if you’re looking at a sample of times where he wasn’t going full speed, I don’t think there’s a player who can’t be put in that conversation. There have been players employed by the Canadiens like Kovalev who have decided not to play hard. I don’t think you can put Lapierre in that group.
Lapierre was not a consistent energy line player in 09-10 until the playoffs hit and than before he was traded this year once more , he didn’t a do a whole lot Tom and commitment factors into it because he has to commit to playing his role for the team which he had issues doing apparently. 08-09 was his best season in the NHL, but he’s never gotten back to that 100%, all-effort, game-by-game play that let him do that three years ago.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
SF09 on Twitter
Wow!
I’m really shocked to hear that. This is revisionism at its worst.
Kovalev during his years here was the only guy who created magic. We obviously don’t see hockey the same way.
Also I think this whole Alex only plays every other game stuff is BS. In the end he was a 36 year old guy who couldn’t do it anymore. But he had 31 points in 33 playoff games with the Habs.
Remember only the mediocre are always at their best.
He was 30 when he was acquired by the Canadiens. If you want to use one season as a basis for the argument that he always tried and just had too many miles on his tires be my guest.
Just so we’re clear, I’m referring to effort, not talent. And there is a monumental difference. Having skill doesn’t mean your dedicated to your team.

The guy is flakey, he sulked for a season when demoted to Hamilton a few years back and other than scoring a couple of goals in one game for the Canadiens became a charter member of the “Hands of Stone” award winners.
He certainly wasn’t burning it up with the Ducks in his “new environment new faces” period who obviously got tired of his antics and sent him packing.
You can bet Vigneault sat him down and reminded him how many train trips they take in the KHL as it would be his best option if he proved to be a disruption in Vancouver! Reference: Ray Emery

… the fans of the Boston Bruins now have lost forever any right to complain that “the league” is out to get their team, and that the Montreal Canadiens have some kind of pull inside the NHL home office.

Max asked for the trade, no one wanted him for more then a 5th rounder.
I have been a loyal follower of this site since the first day. I have followed through the good times (Conference Final) and the bad times (name change from HABSinsideout to HOCKEYinsideout). I read almost all the articles, especially the ones from our local writers (Fisher, Hickey, etc…). I am no longer a subscriber to the Gazette as of two weeks ago after 18 years, I had to cancel), and now, I cannot open any Gazette articles this morning, I get a message saying that I have surpassed my alloted “free” articles for the month.
What’s up with that????? I thought this website was for all fans. No matter what. Now, I can’t even read the articles I want?
Dave, what’s going on?
Has the Gazette beome a Dictatorship like the PQ?
Thanks HIO, I enjoyed the last few years, but it seems I can no longer enjoy them as much, going forward, as I no longer PAY for a Montreal Gazette subscription.
How disappointing.
Jim-out.
I BELIEVE!
I do not follow you Jim. You can read all the paper on here.!!??
Your speaking of the change from Habsinside/out to Hockeyinside/out reminds me about something that has puzzled me since the change.
Why is it that this site’s name had to change but CTV’s Habs Fever and Daily Hab-it (along with several others that don’t come to mind at the moment) did not have to?
Perhaps Mr. Boone can elucidate.
We were victims of our own success. The CTV site doesn’t get our traffic, and neither do the various Habs sites staffed by fans in their mothers’ basements. The Canadiens’ policy is to maximize traffic on the team’s own site. So they’re disinclined to do us any favours … like letting HIO use a trademarked name.
I think it’s terribly shortsighted. All the websites promote interest in the team, and that fan enthusiasm puts $$$ in Geoff Molson’s pocket.
But he surprisingly didn’t solicit my advice.

Thanks for the response to that question Mike. Does this mean the team is also planning on opening its own Shwarma Shop?
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
The strangest part of it to me is when they requested the “go habs go” to come down, the fact you can trademark a phrase, whose origins I don’t think you can prove I find disturbing.
Not only that but there is an ethical issue here too. The Habs belong to this city, they’re our intellectual property, not the league’s.
That’s what you want to believe, but deep down. You do know it’s a business, and yeah sadly the NHL owns it in that way. All about making sure no team is associated with bad publicity…
Kind of like the Black Hawks not allowing their games to be televised for years on end.
Nothing like that. Chicago was owned by very short sighted owner, oh wait… Lol
Any article the Gazette paywall prevents you from seeing can be Googled and found on other sites. For example, I read the Souray article from today on the Edmonton Journal site. One way in which media companies quest to share content to minimize costs is coming back to bite them in the ass.
As far as the PQ being a dictatorship, that’s an inane statement. Comparing everyone to Hitler and everything to dictatorships, in the wake of the Arab Spring and current events in Syria and Lybia, trivializes human suffering.

“I hate the Bruins more than the Nordiques, who I hate more than the Flyers.”
excellent work by Canucks.
Here is a good Habs line-up that i produced, since there has been so much of this.
1st Line: Kostitsyn – Plekanec – Cammalleri
2nd Line: Gionta – Gomez – Pacioretty(must be signed)
3rd Line: FreeAgent – Eller – Moen
4th Line: White – Desharnais – Darche/Palushaj/FreeAgent
FreeAgent = players like Tomas Kopecky(CHI), Ryan Jones(EDM), Joel Ward(NSH), Tanner Glass(VAN).
Not saying any of this UFA’s will be unsigend come July 1st just some possibilities.
For all of the good gentlemen commenting on Zach Parise’s inevitable arbitration case below. The Devils are filing for arbitration to protect themselves against an offer sheet. Nothing but a good business move and certainly not something that the Parise camp will take to heart.
Do you think any team could even afford an offer sheet? How many teams have the cap space in the first place?
Also he will be wanting $7M. Such an offer sheet would require four number one draft picks going the other way.
So is there a team out there that can afford him AND is willing to give up four 1st round picks?
I don’t believe any team could or would do that right now.
Florida. They need to spend more than $30 million to reach the cap floor. They’re in trouble. A real possibility for Gomez if there is such a thing.
$7 million annually is quite a leap for a player who is an elite talent but has missed significant time with injury.
Kings have ton of room left, however, they have a significant number of roster spots to fill. But they could certainly use a bonafide scorer up front like Zach to go with that strong young defence core.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
I agree there are a handful of teams with the cap space and the ambition. Toronto also.
But would any of those teams give up four 1st rounders?
(Toronto can’t because they already traded away this year’s first rounder.)
HFS72′ just sayin’ here… But July 1st happens AFTER the draft, Toronto could make an offer sheet on July 1st.
Bill – good point. Still Burke will not make an offer sheet. Remember he could have with Kessel but chose not to. His rants about offer sheets in the past make itnunlikely he would use one.
I certainly wouldn’t. Parise is an awesome player, but he’s one player who can be knocked out due to injury, or shut down by the opposition. 4 first rounders is WAY too large of a price to pay. As for Parise, If i was him I would go to arbitration. Get a one year arbitration award for $6-$6.5 million and become a UFA the following year. The devils knew they would have trouble re-signing Parise after the kovalchuk debacle, and If I was Parise I wouldnt take a discount just because the owner wanted a more “electrifying” player to fill seats (what an insult). Parise is a better all around player than kovalchuk will be.
mmm…maybe Winnipeg? Probably not because of the picks though.
Absolutely agree that is why, I just think that Parise was hoping they would make the effort to sign him in the same fashion as Ilya K. is all.
I am sure once the arbitrator rules and Zach gets a huge contract he will be happy. But until then, it is interesting dynamics to watch.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Agreed, filing for arb is a back-up in case they can not sign before hand. It is an insurance policy.
Zdeno Chara has been on the ice and partly to blame for every Vancouver goal in the series, except one and he was in the penalty box for that one.
Yesterday, Lapierre out-fought Chara behind the net to send the puck back to the point. Then Seidenberg completely forgot Lapierre at the side of the net.
Chara was also on the ice, and partly responsible, for the game winning goals in games one and two. Failed to stop the pass from Hansen to Torres in game one, and got completely undressed by Burrows in game two.
Finally, for Vancouver’s other two goals, Chara was on the ice and played poorly on Sedin’s goal:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgyVfr1jZZs
Admittedly, Chara was not on the ice for the only other Vancouver goal in the series. He was in the penalty box.
Just saying.
Play thirty minutes/night for upwards of 100 games and see how it affects your strength and focus……just saying.
Whatever the cause of his poor play, he is not in the Lidstrom / Pronger / Neidermeyer category of playoff stud defencemen. He’s big and strong, but that’s about it.
Think about this imagine if Chara was maybe 6’2″ and 200lbs.
Wouldn’t be as “tough”
Wouldn’t have a 105mph slapshot
Yes, his speed would be better
But i dont think he would be trying to pick fights with Kesler.
I think you’re stretching things a little bit. Lidstrom has been known to wear down during the playoffs. Pronger hasn’t been able to stay healthy for quite some time and Niedermeyer wasn’t great in his own end. All of these guys have faults. None is in a class ahead of the other. The three guys you mentioned are hall of famers. I don’t know if Chara will be there but he’s been equally as dominant as those guys, other than Pronger maybe.
All I’m saying is Chara is merely a good defenceman, not the superstar he is being made out to be. And certainly not the guy who can play big minutes and still make the big plays.
Like I said all those Vancouver goals did not go in because of McQuaid or Boychuk.
There aren’t many that I would rather have on my team than Chara. He can take over hockey games.
Except that he loses his focus if he plays too much?
Tell me one player who has a prominent role on their team who is playing their best hockey right now.
Other than Thomas, no one.
These are the two worst cup finalists since the Canes and Oilers.
Yah, prior to this season when Prongers age and injuries really seemed to catch up to him, as much as i despise playing against him, on the NHL ice he is absolute clutch no matter the minutes.
I don’t think Chara ever quite developed his skating like pronger and while he does play enormous minutes he wears down. He really uses that massive reach and size to the max.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Agreed. I still think that if you take away time and space from Zdeno he will cough the puck up.
The problem is that people give him that space as a natural reaction to his gargantuan stature.
Tom,! did you not mean to say, Play dirty minutes/ for a 100 games??
Haha. I have a much bigger problem with Lucic than I do Chara Ian. He doesn’t look for the closest linesman when he’s done something dirty.
Good one Ian.
Chara is tougher on some Maxes than on others.

Nice one Boone! I think it may have flown over some heads.
Who cares? Chara’s a douche and doesnt deserve to win anything! A game winning goal by MAXIM LAPIERRE with chara on the ice?! Doesnt get much better than that! Probably the biggest slap in the face the canucks could give boston.
I’m over on the Globe messing with some B fans and I was invited to go down to Beantown Game 6 and be gang raped in the washroom between periods.
I enjoy watching the game on tv but I hear Boston is such a nice city, esp for Montreal fans
Decisions, decisions…..
Boston is a beautiful city. I highly recommend a visit. Very beautiful places to see, great sports town. I wouldn’t however parade around in a Habs jersey. Although if there was a time that it would be safe to do so, it would be now.
If you have any Yankees or Lakers apparel I would leave it in the closet too.
My wife and I spent a week in Boston last summer and just loved it. It is a true walking city with everything being close at hand. Be sure to stay right downtown in the heart of the city.
Very dull city though. People do not know how to dress. Restaurants typically have you out of there in 45 min – even the top restaurants. There’s very little street life. Traffic is insane. They really do not know how to live.
It doesn’t compare to New York or San Francisco.
I didn’t share your experience. I’ve found Boston to be fine for driving, and that’s on multiple trips.
Tom – you must be referring to another Boston. My wife did her postgraduate training there and I visited the city every other weekend.
The traffic is a nightmare and the drivers drive with the emotional self-control of a Bruin fan after a loss. Maybe you went on a holiday weekend.
Been there twice and both were on holiday weekends actually. I was there for a week on my second trip however and didn’t find it bad.
I’d be screwed Tom. My right forearm is a Habs tattoo tribute
Pat Hickey is spot on. It’s the one article you must read this morning.
More on Lapierre’s great performance.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Why-Game-5-was-the-essential-Max-Lapierre-perfor?urn=nhl-wp7020
Habs require RW’s not LW’s. Habs needs a couple of right handed shooters. Here are a few RW’s that are UFA’s that might be of interest;
Nikolay Zherdev (Phi)
Mark Mancari (Buf)
Joel Ward (Nas)
Scottie Upshall (Clb)
Jamie Langenbrunner (Dal)
Alexei Kovalev (Pit)
Jaromar Jagr
Which 3 RW’s would you signed if you where the GM? Here’s a look at the line-up that’s signed so far going into next season. Fill-in the blanks below.
1st Line – – Plekanec – Cammalleri
2nd Line – Gionta – Gomez –
3rd Line – – Eller – AK46
4th Line – – – Darche
Which 3 RW’s would you signed if you where the GM?
Here are my picks;
1st Line – Jagr (RW)
2nd Line – Pacioretty (LW)
3rd Line – Upshall (RW)
4th Line – Mancari (RW) – White (C) –
Spares: Moen
I’m almost 100% sure that Scottie Upshall is a left handed shot. Chuck Kobasew on the other hand is a righty that I think would be a good fit with this team if he could stay healthy.
You are absolutely right!!! My bad. I replace him with Zherdev.
I’m not sure why we need a right winger.
AK46, Gionta, Darche, White, Palushaj.
We might need a spare part on that side if we decide to go with White as our 4th centre.
We need another right handed shot in our forward group Steve. Gionta and White don’t cut it. Having a team full of lefties makes the opposing goalie’s job a lot easier in terms of angles and probability of shot location. Cammalleri should be a permanent right winger because of his one timer but we definitely need a third liner who can chip in some offense with a right handed shot on that wing.
I guess it depends on where we are going to play AK46. Many people say we need him on the 3rd line but I doubt Martin will do that. If he finds some consistency, he will probably stay on the first unit.
I’m happy with Darche being on the 3rd line, although if there is an upgrade, he is perfect for the 4th line unit. And as I’ve stated before, you know the team will be getting better when Pyatt stops getting regular ice time.
I really like the idea of Andrei on the third line Steve. You could have this going into the trade and free agency markets…..
Pacioretty Plekanec Cammalleri
Darche Gomez Gionta
Kostitsyn Eller
Just finished reading Iain McIntyre’s (Vancouver Sun) article on Max.
Great insights into the makeup of Max Lapierre.
I use this forum to just be a habs fan and basically work my yap. And I dare say in probaly 90+ cases, it is just that. Someone who loves the HABS and whose insight into hockey comes from watching this great team since 1970. Before that I was working bisons and climbing coconut trees on weekends and pretending at ambition on weekdays in a little Trinidadian village. It is the same type of YAPPING I did in the parking lot at the ‘grocery store’, which served not only as a place to fetch the provisions for the infrequent Sunday suppers that were not hewn from the work on the ‘field’, but which, in hindsight, was our GPS from whence we would imagine and dream of the world beyond.
This humble locale provided us a place to meet and YAP about soccer and women with country butts (the best kind). I knew NOT of the game of Hockey and thus NOTHING about Hockey! Despite the risk of some snarky observer extrapolating from my posts that the staus quo has not changed, I am going to pat myself on the back. Pat ! Pat ! Pat!
For what I INSIST THAT I do KNOW is this. Max Lapierre is a better hockey player than was judged by most associated with the habs. And with more astute management and personnel developmet methods Max Lapierre could have had a long and useful career here in Montreal.
I remember one poster here basically calling me a crackpot when, in one of my posts, I extolled the vitues of Lapierre. I remember making the following observation about Max Lapierre.
Do not expect him to be comfortable or productive in the scrums ‘in front of the net’. He is NOT your go to the net gritty player. But he will score his goals from the ‘scoring arch’ just outside the blue where he uses his ‘long stick’ and wide stance and vision to perfection.
The goal last night was of that ilk!
I said that ALL Max needed was the proper environment and to one day taste his own blood. He is still a work in progress and still needs to overcome a bit of a ‘dont mark my pretty face’ cowardice but Max will continue to develop into a player HABS fans will miss.
Maybe one day soon MTL will stop losing capable home grown boys while outsourcing team scoring to overpaid ‘non problem child’ type whose salient vision quality is that they can see Russia from their homeland better than I could from mine.
Bruins must really hate the fact that Laps scored the only and winning goal.
Sweeeeeet!
Even though the celebration would be nicer if they won it in Game 7, I’m REALLY hoping they finish it in Boston just to see the crushed faces of Boston fans.

Looking more like Parise going to arbitration with Devils. For all the talk that if PG sent Gomez to Hamilton it would be a detriment to getting future UFA’s. In reading this, Lou Lam. has never done things to impress players per se. Will this catch up to New Jersey? Or just has Lou has won in the past will they win in the future. Doesn’t seem Zach is overly happy with how negotiations are going.
http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/fireice/looks_like_devils_will_file_for_arbitration_with_parise_next_week/#When:02:26:34Z
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
They’ll regret going to Arbitration, it almost always works in the player’s favour. Parise scored at least 30 goals in 4 consecutive seasons and was arguably Team USA’s best player at the 2010 Olympics. He’s earned a raise that they will have to give him to retain him.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
SF09 on Twitter
I agree. Parise’s agent can easily use Thomas Vanek’s $7 million as a comparable, and Parise is a FAR better overall player than Vanek IMO. He can also use Toews and Kane as comparables. Any way new jersey looks at it, I think they’re looking at a $6.5-$7 million arbitration award. How the devils will manage to squeeze that under the cap I have no idea.
Price for Parise, Brodeur, and NJ’s 1st pick.
We pick Huberdeau and Zack Phillips in the 1st round.
We might not win the cup but we won’t win it anyway with our lineup next year. At least we’ll have entertaining hockey.
Stop fiddling around with NHL 11.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
SF09 on Twitter
God yer annoying when you talk about Price.
I love Price but I would make that trade since we are getting back Brodeur.
HFS72 is convinced Price doesn’t ‘battle’ enough to win, apparently you can’t improve at the age of 23.
For some thought here are some wretched, useless bums who took more than half a decade to win Stanley Cups after hitting the NHL.
Dominic Hasek, Billy Smith, “Gump” Worsley, Tom Barrasso, Ed Belfour, Bernie Parent, Mike Vernon and some guy called Glenn Hall.
and habstrinifan: Are we cloning Brodeur or taking him to the fountain of Youth? He’s 39 and played more games than any other goalie in league history, his best days are behind him, easily.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
SF09 on Twitter
HSF72 – Some might see Price for Parise as a fair trade. There is no way NJ is going to throw in their 4th overall pick.
As well, Brodeur is close to being done and we have no other goalie options available except the UFA market.
BTW, how did Lapierre play last night? (I did notice that you owned up on the game thread. I’m just waiting for Tom Nickle to do the same!)
Hey Steve. I never said Lapierre wasn’t a valuable player. I’m saying that his role, and how he performs it isn’t impossible or even difficult to fill. I like Lappy. But I’m glad we got something for him if he didn’t feel like he was part of the team’s future.
Phew, good thing you’re NOT the Habs GM!!
———————————————-
R.I.P. – K.C. – Jan.28, 1993 – May 19, 2011
Exciting for who? the other teams fans? As long as MArtin is at the helm, the only excitment habs fans will get is brilliant saves by Carey Price.
Actually, he can’t use it as a comparable. Because Vanek’s contract was the result of a matched offer sheet. A more reasonable comparable would be Corey Perry’s contract.
Of course they can use it as a comparable. An offer sheet is a signed contract. One team thought vanek was worth $7 million a season and made the offer, and clearly the sabres thought he was worth $7 million by matching.
Im not saying its the only comparable, but Im certain his agent will bring it up to make the high-end of the salary spectrum.
Didn’t the Devils file for arbitration to protect themselves against an offer sheet?
Tom I think that is exactly why they are doing that. It just seems to me that they aren’t exactly endearing themselves to Parise. I suspect while Zach was happy they got a player of Ilya’s talents, he hasn’t enjoyed watching them bend over backwards to satisfy him contract wise, yet go the arbitration route with Zach.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lou pull off some kind of trade after signing zach and sending him to the west somewhere.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Yeah but what difference does it make? The devils will still have to pony up big money, and if they don’t, Parise goes to arbitration and gets big money on a short-term deal anyway, and I think he would be UFA after that deal.
Read Hickey’s article in the Ottawa Citizen this morning. Tell it like it is, Pat.
Max the Miching Miscreant…thumbs up..
second place is just the first loser
Oh yah, what is with Twins in Vancouver, first the penalty box twins now these. They keep multiplying, if there is a Game 7 in Vancouver, will see 4 sets? LOL
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Getting really jealous of Vancouver. The scene downtown last night was amazing. And now fans like these. Come on Mtl. Next time we are in the hunt let’s be as beautiful as Vanc. No over the top ugly stuff.
If Oilers can buy out Souray maybe Habs can buy out Gomez or maybe PG will get lucky and that amendment where teams can share salries (suggested by Burke many times) will go through and we can trade Gomez easier.
Well off to read the links.
Best hockey weekend not involving the HABS. Bruins on the brink when it looked so inevitable for them and despite what appears to be more and more advantage given them by the inconsistent refeering.
And at the hands of Max the Miching Miscreant.
Can’t wait till Monday.
Great atmosphere. Playing the game at a decent hour on a beautiful late spring evening. Happy fans not sour and glum haters. They sure know how to do it up right out there.
Way to go Nucks! If anyone scoring a goal is going to piss off the Booins its Yappy! Thomas of course played his schtick after the game, trying to innocently claim he doesn’t know how to pronounce Max’s name. Then goes even further and tries to say if Max hit the shot like he wanted to he would have made save. Just as Horton was transformed into a thug in a Bruin jersey, Thomas also feels he must be an A-hole when discussing the opposition.
For all the breaks these Bruins get, they still talk like they are entitled to everything!
Luongo proved me wrong and played a really good game. Hopefully he can find a way to play a road game in Boston like that. Would help if the rest of the team would show up there too.
Are the Sedins still playing for Vancouver?
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
Last night was thoroughly enjoyable. Despite all the bs the refs handed out, the Nucks came through. Especially the seemingly fragile Luongo. Loved every second watching the Chowdahboys lose. 1 more to go.
Enjoy it, it’s the last time you will see your Bruins in the finals in your lifetime.
Karma is a real b*tch that way.
Hilarious! How does it feel to be about to tie the record for most SCF appearances without a win?
