I honestly believe we need to win this series in under 6 games if we are going to win.

How many times have teams gone through 7 game series’ all the way to the cup? Even the 2006 Oilers won one of their first 3 rounds in 5 games. So I’m going to go out on a limb here and call it, what we *NEED* to do if we manage to win both games in Philly is the Habs win in 4. Is it delusional? Perhaps. But that’s a prediction on what we need to do to really prepare for the Cup final if that is the destiny which awaits us.

What *WILL* it be? I say Habs in 5.

I think especially in this first game.  They will try to phydically intimidate us and set the tone for the series.  Need to stay out of the box and burn them on the PP.  Make their top 4 D palyy even more minutes.

  4. Danno says:

Jacques Martin has put the NHL and the refs on notice. In a calm, diplomatic and soft-spoken way he mentioned that he expects the officials to call penalties when they are justified.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

Expecting the worse from the head hunting flyers. they will intimidate and cross the line as much as possible. lets hope the NHL and refs do there job to make it a clean series. The Flyers are a formidable team as they never give up and have size, grit and a Hells Angels mentality. iam hoping the flyers drama is there downfall.

That being said we need more scoring from all lines and not rely on cams/gionta. i suspect the flyers forwards will try and pound our top players into submission putting pressure on the habs 3/4 line to score. to me the series comes down to the adjustments JM can make to stay away from the flyers checking and intimidation. we need to find flyers soft spots and capitalize on them as much as possible. heres hoping markov makes it back sooner than later. would love blackhawks and Habs final.

I wish SI had picked Philly to win, like the other ‘experts’. . I love being the underdog more than the favorite.

        Hockey Notes:

Before they wound up as playoff rivals, the Flyers were considered one of the teams that would go hard after goaltender Carey Price, were he made available in the off-season.

Steve Yzerman won’t say it but others are saying it for him: He, like Dave Nonis, has pulled out of the running for the GM job with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Those in the know still figure this is Doug Risebrough’s job to lose, which is odd, considering that he left behind an empty cupboard with the Minnesota Wild

       Quick playoffs picks: Flyers over Habs in six; Blackhawks over Sharks in six;

Still hard to believe that the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, with Sidney Crosby, with all that experience, crapped out in Game 7 without putting up so much as a fight against the Canadiens

Hey Mike Cammalleri, meet Chris Pronger

I don’t want to pick a winner here, but one question:

What the hell can Philly do, that Pittsburgh, and Washington couldn’t??

Play our game, and we will win!!

    Go Habs Go!!!

  12. novahab says:

Moen take out Richards this guy is another Bobby Clark he a chaep shot artist. The blind side elbow to Booth and the last game against Boston he left his feet and no charging call. He gets away with murder and the Flyers are going to cross the line so time to prime the well by talking about th dirtest team in the league. My Hat is off to JM he has aready spoke up by saying he hopes the refs do their job and calls the goaltender interference. Now it time for the media to speak up and start asking questions to campbell and Bettman if they are going to allow the Flyers to cross the line. I am not asking for any favors from the refs like that would ever happen just for them to call the crap. You know Pronger going to be head hunting this guy should have been thrown out of the league years ago. How many times has he been suspended for what maybe a game or two. Laps got three games for a push and Pronger is always going after a players head.

Unless some of the smurfs get their heads taken off

Get the big boys out there JM. MAB can watch from upstairs.

P1$$ in OBs cornflakes every game morning and make him hit people.

Big series for Moen. I bet he pulls a Gainey (player that is. Not crap GM who brought in all these smurfs who will get killed in the playoffs and we’ll  never get out of the first .. umm yeah GO Habs Go )

  15. MontrealAtheist says:

Ummm … I think “pulling a Gainey” is now synonymous with playing the wrong goalie loss after loss and getting swept away in round 1.

Thankfully, Jacques Martin did not pull a Gainey and the results speak for themselves.

JUst 12 Hours or less togo!

    Reading articles makes me sick.

    Most picking Flyers, Good.

What the Habs have been able to do is Great but for most to underestimate us still is Redonkulous.

Tribute to habs under way, pictures at 11.

Size will cost them a lot penalties we did not get in the 1st 2 rounds. Power play key to success.

Who will the refs favour in this series? Huh………..

    Go Habs Go@!@@!

    Go Habs Go@!@@!

    Go Habs Go@!@@!

    Heart goes a Long WAY…………………………….

  17. MontrealAtheist says:

I don’t think it matters much to the players what everyone else is thinking and we fans also know that they can get the job done, so who cares that others are picking the Flyers?

  18. HabFab says:

Don’t look now BUT…. our ECHL affiliate Cincinnati Cyclones are up 2-0 in the Finals for the Kelly Cup. Both wins came on the road and goaltender Robert Mayers (5th on our depth chart) has a 1.17 GAA.

  19. nightmare_49 says:

It would be a mistake to have O’Byrne in the press box, MAB belongs on the 4th line against the agressive Flyers.  Spacek LD – O’Byrne RD. ……………..  Pouliot or Darche sit.

  20. HabFab says:

I agree about O’Bryne but not sure about MAB. Did you notice SK is back practicing with the team? We are going to need balanced scoring and 4 lines to beat the physical Flyers.

  21. ths says:

No. MAB sits. Dont need him against Philly.

Need as many big bodies as possible. Pouliot can pull a decent game or shift out of his butt and hes got size no way you sit him

You dont dress a guy to play him on the power play we got PK to fill in there.

Need scorers and muckers against Philly and Big D

Ooh Aah Habs on the war path

  22. habs001 says:

if obyrne is not used in this series than you have to wionder his future with the habs because than who would he play vs…some signs that ak46 is going on his 15 game hot streak after his 25 game cold spell…thats what ak46 has been last 2 years gets hot something happens(injury etc) than disappears for a long spell…pouliot another story…was that 30 game streak a one time thing that we have seen sometimes with many players even goons have had unbelievable point production streaks but they allways revert to their true abilities…one goal in 28 games is not a good sign at this stage for pouliot….i hope 90% of the posters are correct in their underestimation of the flyers and i am wrong in thinking that this series will be way tougher than most hab fans think

  23. Habsforlife 1959 says:

Here is how I like to see the match up on both sides for the first two lines.

Gionta – Gomez – Pouliot or (Moen) against Giroux – Briere – Hartnell

Gill – Georges against Pronger – Timonen

    Cammalleri – Plekanec – AK46 against Gagne – Richards – Carcillo

Hamrlik – Spacek against Carle – Coburn

  24. novahab says:

I think O’Bryne needs to play and MAB has to sit . Playing MAB back there or at forward is going help the flyers. If Markov come back then you have a very good powerplay. Question is who sits now Specak or Hammer because O’Bryne has played well and he big ,strong and younger. The other question is can they bring up another player like Nielson to take on those idiots.

  25. nightmare_49 says:

n – Neilson has been out for months with an injury.

  26. adam76 says:

Price started three of the four games against the Flyers, correct?

  27. JF says:

Two.  He was in for the 3-1 win in December and the 3-2 loss before the Olympic break.  Halak was in for the 6-2 meltdown and the 1-0 shutout.

  28. MontrealAtheist says:

No … Halak was in nets during the 1-0 shutout and the 2-6 loss right before the Olympics.
