There was lots of excitement at the Bell Centre Thursday well before the Canadiens intra-squad game was scheduled to get underway. Fans who braved the cold waiting outside for the doors to open at 5 p.m. got a huge surprise when they saw Canadiens players in the lobby, waiting to greet them. Fans snapped pictures and moved along a line shaking hands with Carey Price, Josh Gorges, Tomas Plekanec and other players. Canadiens principal owner Geoff Molson was there as were a few famous Habs faces from the past like Guy Lafleur and Yvan Cournoyer who posed for pictures with fans.
Thurday’s free intra-squad game is one of several initiatives by the Canadiens to make amends to fans for the NHL lockout.
Players hit the ice at 7 p.m. for a 10-minute warm-up before the two-period scrimmage, which has drawn thousands of people to the Bell Centre. The game is part of the Canadiens six-day training camp. They open their season on Saturday at the Bell Centre against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Would you have traded a third round pick for Fistric? I think I would have
I think it was 2 third round picks, one this year and one next but yes, even for 2 third rounders I would have made that trade. He is exactly the type of guy we are missing at the back end.
As far as I know, it’s just one third round pick.
Ya you are right. Would love to have him instead of either of the Swiss guys on our back end
Was it confirmed that Price tweaked his groin, or is it possibly another muscle he’s referring to that needs to be stretched out.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
The scrimmage tonight did not indicate a playoff team. maybe they’ll be better when the real thing starts.
I don’t think we can conclude much from what we saw tonight. The players were taking it easy it was very far from full speed hockey. If you want to read into it at all the best thing to do is scout a few players and watch the little things they do.
I for one really enjoyed seeing Bouillion back tonight. He loves it here and he seems pretty fired up. I liked Galchenyuk’s skillset and it seems to me like Gallagher is the most focused player on the team. A lot of small positives and negatives to take away from tonight but I don’t think we can make any real predictions based off what we saw.
TSN and Sportsnet doing their pre season shows and both are giving the Habs no love whatsoever. Both have them pegged for 13th. They must have been watching that pathetic shoot out we all just watched lol.
I think the players were told not to deke Price because he tweaked some muscle in stopping Pacioretty. So worriesome… Price says he’ll be ready, but no one wants him to make it worse.
Ya, I was just joking about the shoot out but it was pathetic at both ends. Habs have bigger problems then just the shoot out. Hope Price will be OK, one of the few bright spots. Love Prust out there, seems like a real joker.
Prust was awesome, no doubt lol.
Price says it;s just general soreness and he should be ready for saturday.
-Brian Wilde in the locker room
@BWildeCTV
Price says it is general soreness and he will be fit to play Saturday. Mentioned the muscles that need to get stretched out at camp.

From Arpon Basu: “Price admitted he hurt himself earlier this week and tweaked it tonight. “But you’ll see me Saturday.”
Good news, but it’s better if he rests and avoid playing saturday rather than making it worse.. I don’t know hope he’s alright.
Yeah, worst thing would be to aggravate it right at the beginning of the season. Better be safe than sorry. Especially since PK isn’t around, Price will have to be that much better and if he has to stretch out…
Trade PK because we’re getting Seth Jones this year! Yeah, baby!
HIO – never a dull moment LOL
I think we’ll be competing for Jones whether PK is in or out of the lineup.
THere is just not enough time to do proper gelling in the shortened season.
Please dont be injured, please dont be injured, please dont be injured………….
Will Louis Leblanc ever be a top six forward. A wasted 1 st round pick. He will be a third line forward but not worth a first pick. This is Momtreals problem. Making stupid picks because of media pressure.Pick the best player available regardless of ……Would you trade PK to draft Drouin. For me I say yes. We seem to have lots of good prospects . I think Beaulieu could replace PK .In the short term it would be good for cap space cuz we’re gonna need it. Free agants etc
the hard part will be watching the guy picked 1-2 sp;ots behind LL become a star.

He was drafted two years ago!?!? Hahaha. Little early to start throwing the word ” bust” around.
Well, nearly 4 years, but I agree.

Newfoundland’s biggest Habs fan. Hands down.
Weren’t exactly a ton of obvious better picks after Leblanc. Who did we miss out on exactly that is so much better than Leblanc?
It makes no sense to call the pick wasted given there was no obvious better pick. Big deal over nothing.

Kreider – Pierre Mcguire’s I told you so player like Pacs was going to be Montreal’s next Mike McPhee………
Can you wait a few more years before calling Leblanc a bust. The kid is only 21. Trade PK?.. sigh ..
Their all out tonight eh.
In many’s opinion, at that time when the habs took the stage at the draft, he was one of the best players available. Note the “AT THAT TIME” I don’t want to get into it about who’s developed better that was still available.
Louis Leblanc was ranked the the 13th best North American skater by NHL Central Scouting, and the 17th best prospect by Bob McKenzie of TSN. He was drafted 18th overall by the Canadiens. I don’t see what the problem is with that pick. But please supply us with what you blogged on this choice at the time.

Prust just killed it loll
Good to see the boys out there tonight, can’t wait for saturday night!
If Price is injured we are finished. Budaj is an excellent backup but if we need to rely on him for 10-15 games we are dead in the water.
He sure looks injured.
Now everyone will say that it is because he didn’t play anywhere during the lockout.
It was reported that he had a minor injury from way back in November or so, but he felt pretty good… anyways, let’s hope it’s not serious.
Groin injury … not good.
Hope Budaj will be ready Saturday night.
HAHA Prust is awesome
Price got injured stopping patches which is why they stopped deking.
Great …
I watched it all. It was so painful.
And I’m not sure how a Hab fan can dislike Prust after that.
Prust: instant fav!
Prust is a joker LOOOL
and uh oh what happened to Price..
Doesn’t Price look slow to get up each time he goes down? They should have stopped at 5 shooters on each side…
Apparently he got injured stopping a Paciorretty deke.
LOL @ Prust

Dave_Stubbs – From #Habs @PKSubban1: “I truly love the fans and I think we have a great connection. Fans recognize fans!” “I know what the fans want to see and that’s heart & soul on every play. I think that’s where we get along.” “I love Montreal fans, they’re a big reason why I love putting on the sweater every game.”
I love PK but this sounds so much like the crap we heard from those other two groups of clowns.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Kind of got me scared. Outside of Patches, and the Gally’s there didn’t seem to be a lot of creativity in the shootout.
Did you notice Cole got booed for his half-assed first shot? Kind of shocked me that the fans at the Bell Centre let him hear it.
Everybody CHILL!
It’s just a scrimmage…
Is Price OK?

This whole site is about overreacting to things. I say we read into every little detail about tonight. Tomorrow we will see a complete dissection of tonights match :p
Does this mean we have very strong goaltending in SO’s this year, or our shooters sucks this year.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
Our shooters don’t even look like they are trying.
they stopped trying cause price looked like he hurt himself stopping pacioretty
coaches told them to stop the dekking on him
That is scary news
You beat me to it!

It is funny to see how much Galchenyuk already loves the fan attention. He is eating it up out there.
Thats the Markov I wanna see!
The crowd loves Galchenyuk LOL
Man, we better win in regulation or OT – ye gods!
No dekes aside, our shootout looks as bad as ever. What a trainwreck finish tonight.
Radio saying price got hurt stopping patches deke. Great …
Well at least we won’t have any shootout problems this year!
Besides the Gallys, the Habs have been atrocious in the shootout
Does Price look hurt?
Lack of skill in this shootout lol where are the dangles?
but the crowd loves bouillion!
I was thinking the same thing. On both counts.
Didn’t he say they were doing 5 aside?
Sick save by Pricer on MaxPac
Dave_Stubbs – Upon hearing of the “We want P.K.!” chant, @PKSubban1 sends a text: “Thank you! I miss you guys!”
Guess that answers that!!
Any chance of him signing tomorrow, and being in the line-up on Sat. ??
SLICK goals by Galchenyuk and Gallagher.
Roaring for Gally. What a move!
Meaningless scrimmage, but DD still looks like the best player out there.
Anyone else notice the fans “we want PK ” chant. Seemed like they cut the live volume feed and replaced it with music.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
Why is galchenyuk’s line playing so little. It feels like they play 15 seconds on average
So now lets say Chris Lee is reffing this game. Which side gets screwed over more? Red or white?
: )
We want PK …blame it on Matty!
Crowd is chanting “we want PK”

They’re chanting “We want PK!”
If you listen quietly you can hear our friend L!
———————————–
Is that right? Good for L!
So what’s this, they’ve decided to play 3 periods? Or is this a shoot-out?
Crowds chanting “We want PK!” lol
Anybody else think that PK is watching this and climbing the walls??
I bet he is.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
He’s waiting to see who makes mistakes so he can show how needed he is.
Thought the same thing Matty.
I’m sure he is dying to be a part of the pre-season excitement.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
You guys are right about that.
But given his contract situation, he doesn’t want a Delzoto deal, he wants a Karlson deal.
And the MB is holding his ground.
At least that’s what Brian Wilde and François Gagnon were saying on CTV.
I’m sure he’s chomping on the bit Matty, just like me.
———————————–
“We want PK” clap clap clap-clap-clap
The fans have started the we want PK chant.
Yeah, right on cue, eh?
—Hope Springs Eternal—
“Sweet Hands”Blunden Scored?Nice!!
Will this game stay on Habs tv, the quality is terrible on my computer. Slow motion and cutting in and out. Like to watch it later from the start.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
I was doing fine until 5 minutes ago.
Now the feed keeps disrupting.
Blunden has to clear waivers; is this a statement “game”? Christ!
Blunden with the soft hands again!
Was it emelin who went down? Hope he is okay
“Et le but!”
I am not sure who that was, looked freaky.
Blunden scores again! Gallagher with the assist.
Prust cant even skate
$2.5M for that putz. I mean prust.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Take away his physicality and he is kind of normal. This is not his type of environment though. He will be different Saturday night.

Good point Jim, his game does not suit a team scrimmage.
I make those once in awhile. Even my wife…oh, never mind.

TSN interview today with Bergevin;
http://video.tsn.ca/?dl=pipe42/latest/1/0/846262/clip/0
prob a dumb question, even though gomez is bought out and is currrently an UFA, does his 7.34 million or whatever it is count against the cap for this season?
It does.
–
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Yes
yep
Actually guys according to new CBA we get a discount of 900k from the 7.3 M cap hit, so actually 6.457M counts against the cap, has to do with the NHL to AHL loophole being closed, but we do get 900k off the cap for cutting Gomez loose, and of course next year the amnesty kicks in..
Is it just me or did Bourque look like a hockey player on that goal? Sweet pass by Moen too. That line could do some damage.
On a side note, why is it never easy to be a Habs fan? Last season, the Habs didn’t ice a full lineup once. Not one game. This season, after enduring that which shall remain nameless, we have an equal shot with 29 other teams with 48 games to go. Everyone is relatively healthy. New GM, new coach, dazzling new rookie. And PK is sitting in Toronto. Bah.
Can’t watch in the US
Game video on the Habs web site….
Bourque looks like he wants to play.
Pre-season. No hitting. No intensity. His kinda game.
–
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
That can be said about every player on the ice tonight
its just not the same without Gomez out there!!!!!!!
Gallagher continues to impress me.
Also, somewhat related to this… are we calling them both Gally? Is Gallagher Gally and Galchenyuk Galchy? I saw on twitter even Gallagher was wondering about the nickname.

That line looks dominating.. compared to the rest of the Habs anyways lol
hard to deny the chemistry they have together. regardless of other centers talents.
Yeah, and Halak was injured for pretty much the entire duration of the playoffs last season. I guess that means he’s not worth his contract either.
Good to see the trolls are in game shape!
one goalie plays 90% of his team’s games… one goalie plays 50% and gets worn down.
thats the difference.

Of all the ignorant, stupid comments ever posted on this site, this might be the worst. Price is in incredible shape. You know nothing.
We’ll meet back here in 10 years and discuss how their careers played out. I’m sure by then you’ll have moved on to trolling other teams blogs.
Geo Habs. Game. Set. And Match.
You can’t deny that Price has great hair.
Hometown boy at top of the rankings available when you get to the podium, you saying at that time they shouldn’t of taken him??
Ooooh, Price – Halak debate! Love it! I missed it so much.
Btw, Price is a bum and Halak is awesome.
At least somebody is in game shape.
