Subban, Maxwell rejoin Bulldogs

From Herb Zurkowsky:

The Canadiens were eliminated on Monday by Philadelphia, but the hockey season isn’t over for two of their players.
As expected, the organization announced on Tuesday forward Ben Maxwell and
defenceman P.K. Subban have been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of
the American Hockey League. Both will join the Bulldogs for Game 7 of
the AHL Western Conference final, against Texas, Wednesday night at

Promoted from the farm team on April 26, Subban played
in 14 playoff games for Montreal, scoring a goal and seven assists. He
was third in Bulldogs’ scoring this season, with 18 goals and 53 points
in 77 games.

Maxwell was used sparingly by the Canadiens during
their post-season run, dressing for only one game, against Pittsburgh.
He failed to register a point. He also played 13 regular-season games
for Montreal, again being held pointless.

In 57 games with Hamilton, Maxwell scored 16 goals and 28 assists.
players are being made available at the team’s Brossard training
facility this afternoon. Head cCoach Jacques Martin meets the media at
4:30, followed by general manager Pierre Gauthier 30 minutes later.

  2. bostonantifan says:

You really have to ask about Plekanec? He disappeared entirely in the playoffs. Add to that the fact that he can’t score on breakaways or shootouts to save his life, and that’s why some are disappointed with him. He’s definitely not a $5 million per year player. If he gets it with the Habs, lots of fans will be complaining about him the same way they’ve been trashing Gomez all season.

At what point will you clue in that you are essentially on your own in this thinking.

Repeating it over & over & over again – doesn’t make it factual.

All your doing is making yourself believe your BS.

Go for a walk Tony.  You seem to need some fresh air to clear your thoughts.

  5. ooder says:

so whenever the habs win it’s because they face weak opponents and get lucky???

you make no sense man sorry.

you said that maybe washington is just bad against the habs… well maybe the same can be said for the pens vs NJ or MTL vs the flyers.

doesn’t make washington or the pens a bad team.

it doesn’t make montreal a bad team either. they just ran out of gas against a team that has their number.

you were also complaning about how MTL snuck in with 88 points.. well guess what so did Philly.

do you think any of their fans care about that now? Or anybody here cared about that when MTL was winning.

your posts are really not making any sense and you are contradicting yourself everywhere

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”

  7. SeriousFan09 says:

No grassy knoll of course, just a long set of invisible puppet strings going from Gainey to a duly appointed General Manager of a professional sports team.

He’ll leave when he feels he can’t advise the organization anymore. Gainey has a Cup Ring in his GM career on a team he BUILT and appeared in two straight Cup Finals. Burke has a Cup Ring for a team he borrowed and subsequently has fallen well out of contender status in the West.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  8. SLONCOLD says:

subban looks like a great pick… halak was an awesome pick. like other have said. yes they have missed some players but so did a bunch of other teams

  9. SeriousFan09 says:

It proves your point that you’re obsessed with a conspiracy that doesn’t exist?

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  10. SLONCOLD says:

apart from goaltending philly has some of the best balance in the league. many picked them to win their division actually. montreal barely made the playoffs. However they showed they can compete with the big boys and with some adjustments this team could surprise some people next year.

  11. Bill J says:

I addressed this so called “important” question below

btw – you’ve been “daring to ask it” over & over again

    I guess your “no-one” eh ?

  12. SmartDog says:

I agree with you.  I don’t get it.  People are looking for someone to blame. Gomez had 2 goals in the three rounds (and only 1 until the last game).  Halak was not as sharp in that series.   PK started awesome and then seemed to slip back.  You might say no-one played as well in the Phily series – and you might be right.  And Pleks was one of many guys who did better during the first half of the playoffs.  The team got tired, this was 2 seven game series… and then a third.

Not signing or trading Pleks = yet another missed opportunity.

  13. Bill J says:

No one dares ask the question

Because despite how stupid some people in the media seem to be at times – Not many are THAT dumb.  Maybe you should think about that.  BG is a legend in Montreal, despite your thoughts on him.  Quickest way for someone in the media to get shunned (in my humble opinion) is to dump on a legend.

BG was only advising PG – Cammy even said he appreciated the helpful input BG was providing the players during the playoff run.

No one dares ask the question – ultimately because it is not a question to ask.

  14. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

He stepped down as General Manager in February. That is when he left that post. He is currently an advisor with the team. He will be leaving when he decides to step down or is relieved of those duties, just like EVERY EMPLOYEE OF ANY ORGANIZATION IN THE WORLD. When is the stick boy leaving? When is the hot dog vendor leaving? When is Boivin leaving? No one in the media is asking these questions either. They aren’t asking these questions because they already know the answer. They will be leaving when they are done.

  15. Bill J says:

  16. SeriousFan09 says:

Tony, are you upset that people making fun of your tinfoil hat all day long?

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  17. SLONCOLD says:

i think he fails to see you need a little luck in the draft as well…. but in my eyes carter was a complete miss…

  18. Bill J says:

Wow your seriously starting to get on my nerves now.

You know those players you seem to assume the Habs SHOULD have drafted, Habs are not the ONLY team who skipped over those guys.

The Draft is not a perfect science.  The real comparison MUST be made team to team (not by listing every single gem who was got in the draft by ALL the other teams)

At least use a bit of common sense when your thinking up your negativity.

  19. SLONCOLD says:

did Sj lose because they were too small?

  20. Bill J says:

hey I agree – but I highly doubt (unless the team is planning a rebuild/tankfest) they where planning to finish in 8th

Just like I doubt they where planning for Markov to get cut in Game 1

Just like I doubt they where planning on Halak saving the playofs …

No such thing in planning, you can only put together a team and hope for the best.

However to take that & take that in a direcction of putting “blame” on BG or PG is a bit of a stretch, I prefer to take a step back & see the overall improvement of the team due to the fact we had BG at the helm, and now PG.

  21. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

Your points have all been stated and rebutted below, and instead of responding to the rebuttals, you just re-post the exact same misunderstood statistics. What are you hoping for here?

  22. SeriousFan09 says:

Because it’s a stupid question to ask, who has ever heard of a guy who stepped down from GM and becoming an advisor pulling the new GM’s strings in a puppet regime from behind the scenes? Oh right never, because it’s completely ridiculous.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  23. 4loorplay says:

at least he had a goal and 12 before that one….we are tooooooooooo small up front…pure and simple…we need a big second line…at the least

  24. SLONCOLD says:

tony might be a lil negative. however, the plan shouldn’t be finish 8th and hope for spectacular goaltending.

  25. punkster says:

Not likely. He would have shut down your HI/O account by now if he had that kind of influence. Come on Tony, find a new song will ya? This tune is getting old.

  26. SLONCOLD says:

So why all the hate for pleks?

Cammalleri only had one goal against philly. does that mean he can’t perform against philly in the playoffs? we barely made the playoffs and ran into a hot team with very good defensemen. i always wondered why Timonen made 6M a year and well we found out why. He broke up a bunch of plays and hustled back all the time to kill the habs offense…

  27. Bill J says:

    More important question is

When are you going to take your head out of your….

Seriously dude. BG & PG took a team that was NOT making the playoffs prior to their arrival, and built something special here.

Have you not noticed, how many posters are being POSITIVE about this past season – despite your stats that mean nothing (obviously) in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh & Washington who both had MUCH better records then the habs over the season, are they better then the team that beat them in the playoffs ?  Maybe, but what matters most — going deeper into the playoffs or having a GREAT regular season record.

I seem to remember the Habs a few years back having a GREAT regular season, but they choked in the off-season.

  28. SeriousFan09 says:

He is, he’s also responsible for the bad water meter contracts, the pothole situation and all transit worker strikes in the last 7 years, he stalks around the Bell Centre offices wearing a cape, often laughing maniacally.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  29. crabvader says:

Let Lappy go, sign Adam Burish for 1mil.

  30. 4loorplay says:

    1st …get rid of pleks…proven no show against philly….2wice…

2nd get rid of those bum brothers…..the younger one is just too full of himself and the older one not cosistent.

3rd trade markov while you can get something for him…i believe he gonna be on the downside now and he never really is there for the big games.

4th dump metropolit (just too old) sign Moore

5th Have carey price live  with Jacques Martins till he grows up. (sign Halak for 3 years)

  31. crabvader says:

    1. Center is a big gap to fill with the uncertainty of Plekanec staying in Montreal… I still think that we are weak on our scoring wings save for Gionta and Cammalleri…

    2. The best would be to sign Carey Price. If we don’t… then what other choice do we have? Carey is still ripe for molding and a great athlete who needs to get his head together and from what everyone have been saying about his practices, he’s playing a determined game and seems to be back on track and has a good work ethic.

    3. Markov’s value has probably taken a significant hit due to injuries this season… We would have to play him out for one more or use him as trade bait at the deadline if he can rebound next year. If he were to rebound, I would say to trade him for some youngsters and picks. Frees up cap space and also ensures some future value for our team. Although best case scenario for me would be to keep him, :P.

    4. Pleks can’t perform in the playoffs, it would seem. He’s a type of guy that can help get you there but doesn’t seem to show up when it’s time i.e Marian Hossa… Guys like that still make top dollar and are an asset to a team. 4.75$ seems reasonable for the points he put up and his PK ability… I would keep him. If we did dump him, I don’t honestly know who we could get to fill out his spot.  Best case scenario, for the moment, is probably to keep him at that price.

    5. Shed him. We have some guys who can mentor defensively in Gorges (who actually has over 300 games under his belt now) and Hal Gill, who seems to be something of a role model for our youngsters. Hamr is too expensive at over 5mil per season for the put a quote on it “average” play he offers. A guy like Subban can easily replace him for muuuuuuch cheaper.

  32. SeriousFan09 says:

    1. Top Six player to play with Pleks/Cammy, AK is out the door this summer.

    2. Acquire a veteran goalie to work with Price, correct the original mistake that occured when Huet was traded.

    3. Not in a million effin’ years, Markov is the MVP of the defence, the PP was **** without him in the playoffs and passing the burden of runnind the D on to Roman Hamrlik who is really showing his age, Spacek and new kid Subban is just stupid. Having Markov around to instruct Subban and run the PP with him is a great opportunity, they are both skating defencemen, Markov can teach Subban a lot about how to play that kind of game at the NHL Level while they terrorize the NHL together. Enough of having only one top-end defencemen on the roster, it hasn’t worked in years, no reason it’ll work now.

    4. I’ll take him at that price, if he has to go, I really don’t know who could replace him.

    5. I don’t think the cap situation for this summer can be handled by gaining some Top 6 talent and keeping the big names without losing Hamrlik myself, but if the cap magic can work out, okay.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  33. Psycho29 says:

    1. Get a big forward who’s not afraid to stand in front of the net. Can we get Byfuglien and another player from the Hawks for a goalie and a defenceman? (I guess we have to see how the Hawks do in the finals). How many times in the Habs vs. Flyers series did Leighton have a clear view of the puck?

    2. If Halak is gone, sign Price and promote Desjardins. Go with youth…

    3. Trade Markov if necessary, depending on what we can get in return.  He’s still an great player but injuries are happening more often.

    4. I wouldn’t sign Pleks for that much. He had a good season but seems to run hot and cold (and he’s not the only one). He really didn’t show me much in the playoffs at all. Use that cash to go get a free agent who wants to play here with Cammy and Gionta.

    5. I would try and trade Hamrlik, but the reality is we probably have to keep him until the deadline, with injuries, maybe somebody will need him.

  34. SmartDog says:

I’m not saying he walks on water.  But I think Pleks is becoming a premium 2-way versatile player who can put up close to a point per game (and a HELLUVA LOT CLOSER than Gomez).

But I’ll bet you the Science Diet – you’re on!

Not signing or trading Pleks = yet another missed opportunity.

  35. SLONCOLD says:

    1. puck moving defenseman

    2. sign price for 4-5 years at 3M a season

    3. we didn’t do well without him in the playoffs, puck possesion and first pass out of the zone was horrible. gonna be hard to trade a player with his injury history and unsigned aftre the 2010-11 season. i wouldn’t trade him beacuse we are not likely to get a btter player in return.

4.i love pleks but there is no money for him unless they dump salary. Cammy plays center and we hope maxwell and trotter can add some punch with a UFA winger

    5. if you can move hammer you do it and try to sign a ufa or pleks

  36. puck face says:

i bet you a bag of science diet that pleks stinks it up next year. i get all that your saying it’s just a gut feeling i’m getting but maybe i’ve got ulcers. how many points did malin and crosby get? my grandmother would have outscored them. btw pleks was good defensively against pitt but lets not give him all the credit , hakak , gill , and georges were equally if not more effective in shutting them down.

  37. SmartDog says:

    1. If you are Gauthier, all internal players aside, what is your
    BIGGEST SINGLE spot to fill?

    2. If we lose Halak, what’s the best we can make of that situation?

    3. Would you consider trading Markov? Before you scream ‘NOOO!!!’
think about it.  You could a VERY GOOD FORWARD in return (and probably a d-man too)…..even so it would probably open
up some cap space and we did okay without him in the playoffs.

    4. If you can get Pleks for 4.75 mil/2 years, do you do it?  If you dump Pleks, who replaces him?

    5. Do you try to shed Hamrlik, or keep him to the playoff deadline so he can help mentor our kids?

Not signing or trading Pleks = yet another missed opportunity.

  38. SmartDog says:

    I feel the exact opposite.

Pleks had ONE bad year – it was a FUBAR team for most of the team.  The difference – Pleks admited it, talked about it, beat himself up about it, and came back prepared, ready, and didn’t just play WELL.  He outplayed (in the regular season) the “other” top center, playing a great defensive game as well, meeting the challenge in all situations.  And BTW, outscoring Crosby and Malkin on our Pens playoff series while helping to shut them down.  He’s the real deal.  He has the fire.

Not signing or trading Pleks = yet another missed opportunity.

we will regret it if plek’s signs for 5 or 6. this was a carreer year for him , let him go and return to his old self elsewhere. i like pleky but he needs to put up 3 consecutive 70 pts seasons for me to be a believer. take someone like cammy , you know he’s going to put up the numbers every year but i don’t get that feeling from pleky.

Edit: doesn’t matter, turns out our game is a Heitage Classic. It would seem the winter classic is for american teams and the heritage is for canadian teams.
