I was surprised to see in here yesterday that no comments were made conscerning how bad our Habs had played their 5th game in Boston, please forget for a moment the exciting roller coster ride that started near the end of regulation time following Halpern’s equaliser, am talking about the game as they played it for a continuous 2 period 1/2 prior to that point.
All I kepted seeing during that time was dead Habs, always a step or two behind the action very much like if they weren’t even in the same league as the team they were competing against, no initiative, no edge, no cohesion, outplayed with no other alternatives than to dump out the puck giving Price a rest in order to just hang on a bit longer.
Thanks to Price, all Boston could mustered after 50 minutes of unimpeded domination against our dreadfull Habs was a single goal yet the question remained……. what the f. hapenned to our Habs during that game in regulation time ?
Why were we stucked in our own end without even having a lead on which to hold- on to ? and why were we outclassed while holding out the fort ? remembering last year’s playoff or our first two games of the present series they were many time when most of what we did was defending within our zone….. but, for the most part, we did with gusto, verve and a special know-how that was very effective regardless of how it might have appeared to the casual observers…… this is not what hapenned in game 5.
Maybe GM Boston Charielly was right when he commented after our first game in Boston were we had to ” rope a dope ” the Bruins in order to keep the lead and win the game…… he said ” if thats how the CH are planning to play us to win the series they will be running out of energy before it hapenned “. To me, the poor planning which had us staying back at the start of game 5, along with our bad executions, gaved Charielly’s initial comment about our series alot more weight than I was prepared to accept at that moment when he made it.
Furthermore Martin’s post game comments had me even more confused when he refered to what just had hapenned as a great game….. to me, not only the CH had been a non-factor offensivelly during the first 50+ minutes but also allowed so much more scoring apportunities to the Bruins compared to any of our previous games in this series…. our overtime play was very good and great fun but lets face it we didn’t even deserved being there to start with… I might even have felt a little uneasy had we managed a win out of it…. definitly ! … a little.

We battled back last game to tie it, we haven’t lost 4 in a row in a long time, Boston hasn’t won 4 in a row in a long time, pressure is on them, no urgency for them for game 6 as they have the series lead, lots of reasons to still be positive. This team will not lie down and take it like previous Mtl teams!
Last season the Canadiens came back home facing elimination. The opposing team (Capitals) were struggling to score on the powerplay. The loudest crowd of the season cheered their every save, blocked shot, clearing attempt, shot on goal and goal. The leadership and experience of the veterans led the way.
This team had faced elimination 5 times and prevailed. If Wisniewski can’t make it Webber and Mara can step in. If Desharnais can’t make it White and Pouliot will step in. Carey Price will be the difference.

What chaps my ass real good, is the jabroni that took the shot in double OT (ference) to set up horton’s goal should’ve been watching from the presser. The Wiz got 2 games for his unruley behaviour towards avery early in the season, rypen suspended for a long length of time for mixing it up with a fan…….but for some reason uncle collin believed ference’s rant, and didn’t seem to think the middle finger flip to the fans warranted any suspension. He should’ve sat for one game if collin had any balls and ruled without favourtism and gary who sniffs right up his arce when decisions are to be made…….so don’t look for richards hit on connolly to receive any furthur punishment. After all colin and gary are two complete morons who are a farce to this game and to the league!

There are about 4-5 owners than control this league. MLSE in Toronto, by having Bettman keep another team from the GTA market, MLSE in turn give Bettman all their support. Jacobs in Boston is completely in control of Bettman as can be shown by many different affiliations. Snyder/Comcast in Philly also have Bettman in their backpocket and the Rangers because of the market they represent to the NHL.
It is beyond conspiracy theory already, the way this league handles suspenions etc… for certain teams. You have a gate driven league, which says you can’t make obscene gestures to our most classless player (Avery), but feel free to make obscene gestures to our most storied franchises fans. It is beyond BUSH!

First – time comments from a diehard Habs fan living in the UK.
Having watched all the games, including Saturday’s marathon until 4AM UK time, my two pence (literally) worth:
1) Habs are better than the Bruins. Bruins haven’t beaten the Habs, the Habs have beaten themselves. Get it together for 60 mintes, like games 1 and 2, no problem.
2) Ryder’s “miracle” save: it wasn’t. The puck hit him, and he went hotdog after. Kudos for being in the right place at the right time, but it hit him. Plain and simple.
Off to the pub now……..

The Hawks got a lot of help from the referees. The officiating was blatantly on their side, from a dubious penalty shot to three or four obvious missed calls against them in the third period. Even more blatant: at one point the Hawks iced the puck, and the rink officials took a minute to (unnecessarily) clean the corners of the ice, thus giving them the equivalent of a time-out.
Yes that penalty shot was questionable, I cant speak for the rest, didnt see it.

It was probably more that the refs put their whistles away, 80′s style, than outright bias. But it ended up cheating the Nucks, who were dominating possession.

I thought the same thing watching that game last night. I was a little suprised at some of the non-calls:
Bolland slew-footed Henrik Sedin in full view of the refs
Not sure who it was, but Henrik Sedin had his stick broken on a pretty blatant chop in a goal-mouth scrum
The high-stick on Daniel Sedin…Daniel sold it, but there is no question there was a high-stick there
The blind side hit on Bieksa
The ice cleaning on the icing when the Blackhawks had a seldom used line on the ice that was completely out of gas…I simply could not believe that one
I don’t believe that there was any sort of conspiracy, but as HabsFanSince72 pointed out below, the refs did hide their whistles for much of that game, and since the Canucks had such a significant territorial advantage in that game it really seemed like they drew the short lot in that game.
Re the ice-cleaning: That one really surprised me, too. During the regular season, they don’t go to commercial breaks on icing. But I surpise there’s some different rule in the playoffs and/or OT because the ref explained it to the Vancouver bench and Vigneault seemed to buy the rationale.
