Spacek, O’Byrne out?

AUDIO: Dustin Boyd | Mathieu Darche | Brian Gionta | Jacques Martin | Alexandre Picard | Jaroslav Spacek | P.K. Subban

If the alignment at practice today in any indication, Jaroslav Spacek and Ryan O’Byrne will be healthy scratches tomorrow night in Columbus.

Coach Jacques Martin’s revised pairings had Alexandre Picard with Andrei Markov while P.K. Subban is with Roman Hamrlik. The third pair remains unchanged with Hal Gill and Josh Gorges although they have switched sides with Gorges on the left.

The top three forward lines remained intact, but Dustin Boyd took Tom Pyatt’s place with Lars Eller and Maxim Lapierre.

You Bugsyboy were done a long time ago in a place far far away. But if you want to man-up and be the NFL titan of picks, Do the deal or stay in the sandbox.

  2. Bugs says:

Lemme see if I get this straight: I point out my mistakes and only my mistakes, and you tabulate them as a whole? And this is how you argue? Honestly? You don’t see that if I DON’T point out my mistakes, there’s nothing to point out?

In other words, if I say I shanked my Cowboys, the Cards, and the Jets games this week, I’m 0-3? This is how you process information? Oh my…(mmph) I guess… (snort) you’re right, then, Stormy, I’m 0-3.

I shouldn’t laugh but.., that’s just plain pathetic, kid.

    Ok, I’m done here.

than some brain-damaged players because those hits were still legal.”

Bravo SF09, as always the voice of reason. Somebody give this guy a job at HIO!

  4. Lazarus_taxa says:

i think the Carbo comparison is an exaggeration.  Martin has kept the majority of the top six and defensive pairings intact all season.  The changes he makes are to the bottom six which, if you look at the rest of the league, are pretty common.  A little sensationalism gets blog hits!! Everyone is doing it, right?

  5. Storm Man says:

Where on earth does NE play SF every week? Snap You are not playing picks from what happens in real life you’re making picks based on what is going on with your xbox 360 games. Now it is becoming very clear, I keep forgetting you’re life is all about the internet and the celebrity you are looking for. The 1-3 record you have posting Here is one you picked the Bills over the Jets…… The Jets won, do I need to bring up the other ones or do you need to look up what you have said to keep the story straight?

    Are you OK now?

  6. Bugs says:

1-3? Where do you come up with this nonsense?

You like to make stuff up, don’t you, kid? Just, you know, make it up when you don’t know anything, right? Then use it as an argument after. Sure, that works, right?

So tell you what: you keep making stuff up and picking NE over SF every week and that will mean that you’re a super-duper-football-hero and I’m a big nobody who surely doesn’t know as much as a pride-wounded hysterical kid does, ok? Because that’s how that works, ok?

  7. Storm Man says:

Waitaminnit Waitaminnit, When did you have a understanding about football? This is not the kiddie sandbox you like to play in Bugsyboy… Easy office picks you say, Well like I said post the picks you make on here this week for all to see and we will all see what a FRAUD you are. You are 1-3 with the picks you have posted to this point. BTW try and work on some math skills today when you have time… 12-1 out of 13 picks. So man-up and put the picks on here as I will be happy to do the same.

I swear you will run and hide like a poulet.

  8. Bugs says:

“…never played the game…” bla-bla-bla, a tired-out childish argument meant only to assert yourself through unverifiable means.

Bottom-line is: this week, I’m 9 outta 13 before tonight’s game, and you’re 4 outta 13. Dress it up how you like, you’re too scared to pick the tough games. Scared. Terrified. Not man enough. So stick to picking NE over SF over and over again, ok? That’s what you’re good at.

And let those who not only “played the game” but also “understand the minute nuances of the game” make the BIG picks. How does that sound? You do granny-easy office picks and I’ll do the Loto-Quebec big-league picks, aw’ight, 4-outta-13-boy?

  9. Storm Man says:

Show me a man and post the picks you make on here. I understand why you won’t as you never played the game and come on here each week and say this bullspit and so on and so on. I see you failed math also btw. I guess you will sitback in that armchair and keep thinking you know something about football. I would hope you do something more in a day? guess not, The 3 picks you have had posted on here you went 1-3 on so  that tell’s me alot.

  10. The Cat says:

I guess this is where Seriousfan should come and call you a xenophobe?

  12. otter649 says:

Carbo usually made changes after a loss like Martin might be doing for tomorrow’s game……

  13. Bugs says:

Oh, so you can focus only on the easy games? That’s nice.

But no, I prefer, the MAN game of picking EVERY game in a week. More demanding. More challenging. Greater sense of accomplishment than choosing NE over SF every week and calling yourself a great prognosticator.

That’s just my opinion of course.

But uhhh, you’re not 12-1; you’re 4-13 every week. You’re just adding your 4s together over weeks in order to surpass what I do in a day.

    Sorry, try again.

  14. DavidKB says:

While Hamrlik made a bad decision to try and carry the puck into the opposition’s end last game, he’s usually smarter and more dependable. Spacek, makes mistakes on a fairly regular basis. Picard should play instead of Spacek.

  15. bertuzzisucks says:

I just read Bergeron in a interview say” hes has 4 teams interested in him”. I believe it.

  16. bertuzzisucks says:

Traded! are you kidding? nobody wants a 6th defenseman at 5.5 million.

Maybe, just maybe some dumb team would pick Roman up on re-entry.

  17. Drive_For_25 says:

Spacek was rock solid in the playoffs last year, when he was healthy, after a mediocre at best regular season.  I think we can expect the same from him this year.  Hammer on the other hand, should be traded because I think we`re seeing the best he`s got right now, and it`s nothin special.

  18. ManApart says:

Was going to make the exact same point. The big point shot isn’t only about goals, it’s about the threat of goals, where the PKer has to cheat more up high, which totally opens up the down low and slot plays. Otherwise everyone collapses and the Habs can’t do a thing. Montreal struggled on the PP last year, until MAB came on board, and things immediately turned around. I remember two years ago, the PP was sucking (with Markov) in the 2nd half. Schneider joins the team, and things immediately started to turn around. With no point threat, it’s just too easy to shut the Habs down, as has been happening.

  19. Storm Man says:

If you want to do the head to head matchup of NFL football predictions, The format would be you pick 5 games from this weeks schedule for me to pick winners from and I would do the same.

  20. ManApart says:

I’m definately also in favour of MAB

  21. ManApart says:

Easy boy. Great team? Who the Red Wings the last decade? Great coach? What has he done? How many years in the league and how many cups? Gainey created an average team for the first 5 years and now this 2nd team is a QUESTION MARK. They got into the playoffs by a whisker last year and fluked a couple of series wins, where they were severly outplayed almost everynight, because of Halak and Cammy. Then came the big Physical Flyers and we know what kind of embarrassment happened. Martin did some good things, but let’s relax with the great coach stuff. This season is only 10 games in and Montreal has had a very easy schedule. If they do what they did last season again, then you may have a point, but right now you are way ahead of yourself.

  22. Hobie Hansen says:

You’re defiantly correct about Gill. My father and I who’ve watched hockey together for a very long time swallowed our pride after wondering why in the heck the Habs signed Gill. By the all-star break Gill was rock solid. Gill is different than Spacek though. Gill found his niche late in his career while Spacek is aging normally and seems to have lost it.

  23. Storm Man says:

Nope, In the office pool Im in you pick 13 games in a 2 week span winner takes all. 200 bucks per person.

  24. GrimJim says:

You should look again at that hit of yours, especially at the side angle at 32 seconds or slo-mo at 13 seconds. (1) it’s not blindside, Richards hits Poti in the crest. (2) Richards hits Poti in the crest, not the head. This is a “clean/perfectly legal” hit under the new rule. Which makes your argument a Straw Man fallacy.

My understanding of the head shot rule is to eliminate blindside head-shots like Matt Cooke’s. Do you think Matt Cooke’s hit was clean, fair and should be a positive example of hitting for peewee players just learning how to check?

  28. light_n_tasty says:

MAB was 9th among all NHL D in goals last year,  and 4th among all NHL D in PP goals (tied with Shea Weber), and 2nd among all NHL D in GWG. He only played 60 games.

And it’s not just MAB’s goals that helped the PP last year.  It was the threat of his shot.  It forces the opposing D to play the shot, opening up other areas of the ice.  The shot also creates rebound opportunities.

I’m not advocating for the return of MAB, I’m just calling out your faulty use of stats, especially your conclusion that ” we would have at most 2 more goals on the PP to bring us to a 12.8% and 23rd in the league…”.

Who knows how many PP goals would have been scored this year by Cammy, Gio, AK, or Pleks if there was a threat from the point? Nobody.

  30. newbrunswick troy says:

Spacek can play better…he needs to A, lose that 10-15lb he puts on every summer

and B, needs to know that his job is unsafe even though he,s paid 2-3 mil!!!!

a little pressure is just what the doctor ordered>>>>>>>same goes for Hamr.

  31. Mattyleg says:

I agree with the common opinion that Spacek is doing terrible, but we should rest him a bit, and then let him find his game again.

Look at how frustrated people were with Gill at the beginning of last season, and how he came around.

I think what we need for ol’ Jaro ‘My Chins Are My Strength’ Spatcher is what Axl Rose suggested: A little patience, yeaaahhh yeahhh…

I didn’t read the article, but I don’t see how a francophone journalist’s opinion of Gomez differs from many anglo posts we get here…

And I like the “them” comment. Because “they” all think the same.

God, Mike, for someone who has good comments to make, you have to get off that xenophobic horse. It stinks to high hell.

  41. bwoar says:

I wouldn’t hate it, but, I also feel like Yannick Weber ought to get a tryout before we go the FA route.  Neither is really good at playing defense, but getting that PP moving would be great in those tight games against, say, Thomas Vokoun.  As we’re playing decent hockey and just getting #79 back I don’t think mgmt. will make any moves for a while.  But I certainly believe we lack a proper shooter.

  42. Kamal Panesar says:

Well if things play out like this, these will both be good moves.  I’ve been crying about Boyd not playing more for a while now and playing him with Lapierre and Eller should make a formidable third line.  I just hope that JM doesn’t jump the gun and split them up after one game if it’s not working.

Seems JM is taking a page out of the Guy Carbonneau school of coaching by constantly changing lines and linemates.

Give them a chance to find some chemistry!

  43. showey47 says:

Josh Gorges had 100 games with the sharks before being traded to the habs and at the time was seen as nothing more then a depth defenseman/throw in. Look at him now,he has 339 games of nhl experience. Still think he’s a spare part in a trade? I also get a kick how obyrne is trashed for the “over the glass penalties” when hamrlik led the league in that department. 125 games if a long way from 339. Obyrne will probably be traded, its too bad. He is exactly the type of player we need to develop on our back end. Especially with so many guys potentially leaving via ufa this upcoming summer.

What with the snow and freaky cold? May have played the last of the season last week on a glorious day finishing at sunset on the old Cote St Luc course. The score was horrendous but the weather beautiful so what more could one ask? The “to do” list today includes “club cleaning and storage” so that about does it I’m afraid.
