Price, whose 2013-14 season came to an end when suffered a sprained knee in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final against the New York Rangers, returned to the ice a couple of weeks ago in Kelowna and is now skating with former teammate Josh Gorges, Canadiens forward Travis Moen and other NHLers who are out west.
“It’s probably been one of the fastest summers I can remember,” Price told Stubbs. “(Skating) is going pretty good so far. So far, so good.”
Price added that he’s looking forward to seeing the newly renovated Habs dressing room at the Bell Centre.
“I’ll be excited to see it, the (old) place was kind of a maze,” Price said of the original, small dressing room at the Bell Centre, which opened in 1996. “I got to look at the blueprints. It’s hard to picture from a piece of paper, but from what I hear it will be similar to Brossard (where the Canadiens have an expansive room in their training centre).”
Stubbs also asked Price about the vacant captaincy on the Canadiens with Brian Gionta now a Buffalo Sabre.
“I’ve always found the captain to be more of a ceremonial thing than anything,” Price said. “I don’t truly believe that leadership is defined by a letter on your jersey.
“I don’t think it really matters a whole lot. We have plenty of guys who have captain-type qualities. I’ve always joked that whoever has the C on his jersey is basically the guy who has to stick around after every loss.
“Whoever it winds up being, if there is a designated C, I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job.”
