Shoot me now!

Please God, let this not be true.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post, who’s well plugged-in, is reporting there may be a LeBron James knockoff television special focused on Ilya Kovalchuk’s decision.

On the other hand, you can see the possibilities of a commercial tie-in:

Glad bags strong enough for whatever chunks we’ll be blowing.

Not to mention that our defence will be better WITHOUT a season of MAB…

Lars Eller, a 21-year old with a Top-6 potential, Boyd for Metropolit who’s a decade younger, bigger and better suited to be a checking line forward. AK and BP both have the talent level to score in their roles, Pouliot ripping off a dozen goals when he got here was a fluke? It’s not like most of our opposition has better than them as well. AK lost his distracting brother and Pouliot will have a summer to reinstitute his conditioning. Too often this team didn’t have proper depth on the 3rd and 4th lines as well, forcing overuse of the Top 6 and tiring them out, a team is much more effective with 4 lines to roll.

Forwards weren’t brittle either, Pleks played the season, Gomez missed a handful, Gionta’s foot was broken off a shot made by our own guys and plenty of players get busted feet from shots on their skates and Gionta played through the injury for a while. Cammalleri just happened to get by Volchenkov, one of most crushing hitters in the NHL and AK got taken out by a cheap hit.

    Clay?

The same Clay who is coaching the Chinese national ice hockey team?

  4. G-Man says:

Moore and Metro replaced by Boyd and….who, exactly? Some young buck that “potentially” will play better?

The depth is 3rd and 4th line material.

AK and BP are not top 6, but on the depth-defying Habs, they are.

The saddest thing is that only 2 forwards that the Habs developed are in the top 6, and 1 (AK) should no longer be there.

Considering goaltending and improved defense- compared to last season that’s a wash. I don’t expect Auld to be better than between .885 and .900.

Goal scoring has not been addressed. The top 6 are the same. Will they continue to be brittle or will all play 75 games plus? Too many question marks and not enough sure things besides PK.

at 47% and 88 points standing pat are bg and pg those incompetants, aarrggghh, need brains, brains, no brains, where brains?

I’ve been around the block jr … Seen your type many many times ….

  7. G-Man says:

Price has never done it when it mattered, save for a game 7 shutout against an 8th place Boston team that should have been eliminated in 5.

I won’t enjoy it if I’m right about Price. He has yet to prove me wrong. I doubt he will.

  8. Clay4bc says:

No need for me to put any words there – you put them there yourself…

Most of the shots that were taken were run-of-the-mill point shots that
    9/10 (inluding Carey Price) save
. …But something you can see
anywhere is that Price makes those saves too. His highlight reel list is
    easily as long as Halak’s.

Yeah…you weren’t likening it to what Halak did at all. How silly of me.

    😉

Supporting Price is not what makes you an idiot – hell, even I support him (or will, if his greedy a** ever signs, that is – as of now, Alex Auld is the man! YAY ALEX!!!).

No, Priceberg – you are an idiot simply because you are an idiot. it just “is”.

Since U know more about hockey than Scotty Bowman, U could always teach a little person there in China to play net. He can come over to Canada & take the starting position away from Price …

  22. SeriousFan09 says:

Really? Who? Ottawa with the aging, injury-prone Sergei Gonchar on an over-35 contract that works against their cap? An aging Alfredsson and lazy Spezza? Toronto by adding an 80-hit ‘truculent’ checking forward with 15G in Colby Armstrong and Versteeg? Please, we balance that with Boyd playing for us and Cammalleri not missing a big stretch of games. Buffalo lost key personnel and haven’t made it up yet with replacements either. Boston is stronger with Horton and Seguin, but they still have to address two giant wastes of space in Ryder and Thomas and hope their team isn’t utterly obliterated from a morale standpoint after the Flyers series collapse.

Than let’s tackle the Atlantic division. Oh look, Rangers are still a sideshow organization with Sather in charge that’s going to live and die on whether or not Gaborik can play the seaon. Islanders are still building up and have no goaltending. New Jersey’s grasping at straws while they try and find away around the fact that Brodeur’s getting old and they have no Niedermayer, Rafalski or Stevens on the back end. PIT still hasn’t addressed their issue of good wingers for their centers and MTL learned how to deal with that. PHI are the powerhouse of that division, but they haven’t changed so nothing’s really gone better for them.

Carolina has done little and despite all the drafting by the Panthers, only Gudbranson might be ready to go and they lost their best scorer in Horton, Booth might never be the same. Tampa Bay, okay they have Boucher, Stamkos, Hedman and St. Louis, but Lecavalier is declining and their D is still rather questionable and Ellis is not the rock they need in nets, lost his job to Rinne who I saw in post-season, flopping around for all the good it did them. WSH still doesn’t have a second-line pivot and they need Varlamov to be good and Alzner, Carlson to step up and be their D solution.

Caps, Pens and Flyers are the powers in the East but we knew that already, Boston potentially as well but that’s four of fifteen teams. I wouldn’t really rank the rest ahead of us. No one has gotten significantly better, it’s been a bit of a shuffle but nobody has suddenly become a contender.

    I wasn’t and I wont, that’s for sure!

Halak had his own problems as well. His roaming from the crease, for one. Jeff Carter should send him a thank you card.

As far as I’m concerened. It was a carbon copy of the regular season. Play hard for the top teams and then suck for the weaker teams.

Only time will tell if the Halak we saw in the playoffs was the real deal, or just the second coming of Steve Penny.

Come on, Zep – you know you’re defending Priceberg here, don’t you?

Besides, 5 wins in 6 elimination games is impressive, no?

And correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the Habs forwards SHUT OUT in 3 of the losses? Halak did his job – we all know (most) goalies don’t score. Best save % of all goalies in the playoffs. Defend Price (and his evil minions) all you want, but you can’t deny the truth of my words.

Though we really haven’t improved much over the summer though i think our defence will be better with a full season of subban. Having markov, cammy, gio, pouliot and ak46 not missing approximately 130 games combined next season would be a major improvement.

If your friend has a habit of picking his nose and eating it in public, do you not try to stop it? We are supposed to help and guide our friends away from making stupid, rash decisions (like trading away Halak for spare parts). If we didn’t do these things, we would be terrible friends – and terrible fans.

Halak is gone Price is here, get use to it & enjoy it!

  43. Clay4bc says:

Ummm…I don’t want to get into a whole thing here, SF…but actually, many teams in the East have improved this off-season. And whether we added forward depth is questionable at best. We lost Moore, and Metro (who not incidentally was the leader in PPG scoring), and added a question mark in Eller – who may not even make the team this season.

I love it when people bring up Price’s great 55 save performance and try to liken it to what Halak did…

Again, what Price did that day was very exciting to see as a fan. But did he do it in the Stanley Cup playoffs in an elimination game against ther cup champs, or the presidents trophy winners? Not be a long shot. Halak did it when it mattered.
